  1. i agree that turris is probably the most talented frosh in the WCHA, but its a crapshoot. what system you are in, who your linemates are and if you stay healthy. i say frattin and lapointe have as good a shot at ROY as anyone.
  2. Is there somewhere we can all see the new logo... or will we have to wait until the site is redone?
  3. Not to stoke the fire, but what else are they going to say? Do you think either Hak or Buning is going to put down the other knowing that information could get to the public. I'm sure there is mutual respect, even if they don't always like each other. Either way, I hope the deal gets done, it would be a shame to lose a great coach right now.
  4. Somone should make a promotional 2007 Sioux Football video like that one and post the link. Cool video, just wrong team .
  5. I'm just getting settled in waiting for the next snide jab... why is it still a month and a half until the puck drops?? Then we can all dissagree on who should be playing over who, who is overrated/underachieving, and who's head is on the chopping block .
  6. I think they did, but probably thought they could low ball him since he is not a high demand type player. I hope he got a decent contract and will get a fair shake at making the big show. I could see him being a solid third or fourth liner, he's got the grit, and you know he never quits.
  7. I do not know any inside information, so I am strictly speaking as a fan on the outside looking in. I understand the move to DI will take alot of money, but not taking care of the head coach of the schools top sports program makes no sense. The hockey program is what will keep UND athletics afloat for those first few transitional years. I feel Hakstol has done a great job with what he has had, and a great job recruiting to keep us near the top in the nation every year. I know he hasn't won a national title (yet) but we have had some pretty good runs the last few seasons. I think we need that consistency with Hak at the helm for recruiting and for the teams sake as he seems to do a great job preparing the boys. I'm not really sure what the beef is with Hak and Bunning, but if it is a money issue only, that (hopefully) should be worked out and we will see Hak on the bench for years to come.
  8. I both fish and golf, and though golf can be VERY frustrating some days, I find it more rewarding on certain levels than fishing. You get your competitive fix with a good round of golf while still enjoying the outdoors, while I could sit on a boat all day with some cold beer and not see another soul, and have a great day. Any way you slice it, a bad day of fishing or golf is still better than being inside at work all day .
  9. the X is a pretty good site for it, but don't tell me it's not home ice for the goofers. another option would be to let the previous years champion host the final five. personally i think that would be fine, we would be getting it every two or three years .
  10. That's not a bad list of future Sioux players , but for now we get to enjoy Osh, Duncs, Finley and Chorney for one more year.
  11. isn't Danny Kristo at #14 a future Fighting Sioux?
  12. True this is now the way of college hockey and the top prospects, but that is how it is. I would rather have the top end talent for a couple of year than to never see the talent in college hockey. Do you think any team would have been pissed if they could have had Sid the Kid for even a year? I know the vast majority of us Sioux fans are more than happy with the years we got out of Toews, Parise, Stafford, Bochenski, Greene, Smaby, and many more. Sure it stings when they leave, but it is fun to watch while they are here.
  13. 1. UND - very good chance to hang #8 2. UW - my "surprise" pick, lots of young talent, goaltending?? 3. UMtc - some major losses, but always deep enough to compete 4. DU - some big losses that will hurt the next few seasons, but may be borderline this season 5. MTU - very impressive last season, ride the momentum 6. SCSU - lose a hobey candidate and their best skater and scoring threat 7. UMD - two early defections too much to overcome 8. CC - don't know why I have them this low, a hunch 9. UAA - the CCHA is waiting 10. MSUM - at least the purple cows are good for a fight or two
  14. I see both sides of the story here. I would definitely like to see the home and home series with the beavers become a mainstay, but I don't think they fit in the WCHA (unless we can unload UAA or MTU). On the flip side, the CHA is going to be history, so something needs to be done. I don't like to idea of adding teams because we lose games against some of the old rivals. Ideally college hockey could grow with a few new programs and the leagues could be rearranged a bit. I don't know why some of the big schools such as Iowa, Nebraska, or numerous out east could not add a hockey program (thanks title IX ). If college hockey does not get any new programs, then it's a tough situation, you don't want to lose the teams in the CHA because there isn't enough teams in their conference. Niagara, BSU and Ala.-Huntsville have all been competitive in recent years, so it is not like they are second class teams. One final note... the trip to Bemidji would be a close road series to go to, always a plus.
  15. It's always fun to speculate, even more so with the logjam at forward this year. Here's my guesses... Duncan, Oshie, Trupp Watkins, VV, Miller Malone, Kaip, Frattin (Martens or Davidson) Kozek, Zajac, Forney Chorney, Lapointe Bina, Finley Jones, Genoway C - Kaip, A - Oshie, Chorney Radke could fill in anywhere if needed, but I don't think he has a spot locked up, also Martens and Davidson can jump in up front if someone is injured or underperforming. I think all four of these lines have awesome offensive potential. Kaip's experience would help the two freshman along, the fourth line may be a slight defensive liability, but hey, not a bad lineup. I can't wait, is it hockey season yet?!? Let the skate for #8 begin!!!
  16. We as fans will have huge expectations this year of course, but nothing compared to what they have already set for themselves. Just ask Oshie, Duncan, Chorney, and Finley why they came back. They want that national championship, and anything short will be a dissappointment in their eyes. Most people realize that there are a great number of things that have to go their way for that to happen, including solid goaltending, staying healthy, and scoring at least seven goals the next time we play BC in the Frozen Four, but we definitely have the corp of guys to go all the way. Here's to #8 in '08, party in Denver!!
  17. Sorry to see him go and wish him the best. I have serious doubts how much playing time he will see with the big club, but hey what do I know. As for some of you jumping on everyone who criticizes him, he better get used to it. It won't get any better playing at the top level for a Canadian club. Personally, I hope he steps in and is the star he has the talent to be, good luck Brian.
  18. I'm guessing ol' Robbie played in the AHL this past season, I don't think he got any ice time in the NHL that I saw. One thing is for sure, where ever he played, he would have got his ass kicked if he would have pulled any of his WCHA flops, he's not protected by the automatic suspensions anymore.
  19. I think #9 was Bobby Hull's jersey, which is now retired.
  20. I didn't say he didn't do what was best for him, because he did. I've said all along he was ready and will be an NHL star in a short time, and I hope for him to do well. That doesn't mean there won't be some regrets. When the Hawks are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs 2/3 through the season and the Sioux are making another strong postseason run, he may think, if even for a fleeting moment, I'm only 19, what was the rush...
  21. It could have been 14, damn! Even without JT, this team will be poised to do well. I have a feeling that there may be some regrets on his part when the Sioux win #8 this year. Let's hope that upperclassmen number doesn't drop to 12 if Lee decides to bolt.
  22. Chuck, I don't pretend to understand the NC$$ recruiting restrictions, but what part of what she said on an independent forum board is a violation? She is a student joking about wanting JT's little brother to sign a LOI? Again, I'm not saying your wrong, but if that is where the line is, how the hell does the NC$$ keep up... monitor every message board for every DI and DII school?
  23. I like the idea of the SS with siouxsports.com underneath. and you can modify the S any way you want, it doesn't have to be an exact steal off the old Sioux jersey.
  24. I'll up the ante for you AZ... two of the hobey hat trick finalists and nat. championship #8 in '08
