  1. Lets go Sioux! We need one back now!
  2. I agree that the teams success will help Duncan in his hobey campaign, but realisticallly I think that Brown or Hensick get the edge based soley on the fact that they are seniors. I am not saying it is right or that I agree, but I think that is how it is. Everyone on this board knows he deserves to be one of the three finalists, and in my opinion he should win it, but it will be a tough road convincing everyone else.
  3. Guess I should have looked down further to see an entire section dedicated to this topic. Guess I don't have as much time on my hands as I thought, at least not as much as some of you who apparently wait for topics to be rediscussed so you can throw out your daily rebuttal and a quick link to the last discussion, in which you also made some groundbreaking revelations. Thanks for the help I'll try not to let it happen again (Am I on double secret probation now with Riley Nash?)
  4. I'm not sure if this is the spot for the topic so I apoligize if it has been talked about elsewhere, but the past couple of years, the Sioux have really been pushing this force of the north theme, like during the pregame highlights and lineups. I am wondering if this is the schools way of slowly transitioning us into a name change. Now I don't think they will let the NC$$ force our hand, so I think the lawsuit will be carried out, with the school's representitives fighting every inch of the way. But after we win the lawsuit, can you see them changing the name on their own terms... possibly the UND Force? It's not as good as the Sioux, nothing will be, but an acceptable alternative. It's possible I have way too much time on my hands and am way off, just wondering what all my fellow hockey nuts think. Oh, and go Fighting Sioux!!
  5. actually the Roughriders are the #2 seed based on the EDC tourney only, still the #1 team in the state by all accounts. and to answer the latest post, I think Minot probably was the strongest team out of the west this year, but it would be fun to see Williston succeed if their goalie can play like he did last night, but since they rotate two senior goalies, they will have to get past Bismarck today for him to get one more shot.
  6. Pretty good wrap up puck, with a few ommissions, but hey you admitted the bias, at least your honest... the few late goals you were talking about for Grafton were empty netters, it was a one goal game up until that point and although I agree that GFRR was the more talented team last night, the Coyotes played with more heart, and the Roughriders didn't have a lead in that game until the beautiful Vigan goal with 2:12 left in the game. that individual play won the game, add the empty netter and the #1 team in the state barely snuck by the #3 team in the west. coach malm talked pregame about rolling four lines and playing six defensemen, well Galbreath and Ladeucer played over half the game on the blue line and their first line was the only one that did any damage, so I'm not sure it was as lopsided as you think, considering that was our #1 team in the state. Good wrap though, should be another great day of hockey. And I agree with alot of the other posters here, why do some of you from the east feel the need to validate yourselves by putting down other teams from your home state? does it make you all feel better? Oh well, what do you do, hope we have some good crowds at the Ralph today. Nothing better than watching the HS hockey state tourney on a Friday... well maybe the Sioux beating the Goofers, but its close.
  7. I know this has been talked about already, but as an interested Sioux fan, I was wondering about our prospects and what they bring to the table. Here is a list that I've compiled, though I'm sure I am missing a few. Just interested in their size/stats/hockey potential... you know, the stuff we will talk about all summer long after another trip to the frozen four. I've put their possible year to start with the Sioux, so correct my miscalculations. Riley Nash, 07' F Brett Hextall, 07' F Derrick LaPointe, 07' D Jake Marto, 07' D Ben Blood, 07' or 08' D Brett Bruneteau, 08' F Mike Cichy, 08' F (assuming he doen't jump to major juniors) David Toews, 08' F Zach Budish, 08' D young Canadian goalie, 08' can't think of the name, but I think we have him committed Does anyone know anything about the Zajac in juniors right now? Anyways, let me know how we look for the future. Go Sioux!
  8. Uh, it's called a well rounded person! For example, a 3.0 college student who played a sport and had a part-time job is more attractive to a grad program/employer than a 4.0 with nothing else on the resume because that student has learned how to balance his/her time and still succeed. You really can't tell if the 4.0 has. Many times the 4.0 undergrad student studies way too much. I know that sounds wierd, but in grad school and in a job, you may be required to do much more than just one thing (i.e.: get my 4.0!), and the well rounded student has a much better chance of being able to do that in the real world or difficult grad schools. A 4.0 student who studies all the time while taking 16-20 credits a semester may fare quite poorly in grad school where the average load is often 32 credits a semester, by the same measurement. If he/she already studies all the time for the 20 credits, where's the time for the other 12? And in a more difficult curriculum! I was on the Alumni advisory board for the out of state school where I got my doctorate for six years, and trust me, this is how admissions people look at it, especially in close call situations. As for the Mr. Hockey type of awards, remember that HS extra curricular activities are designed to develop well rounded good citizens, that is their mantra. Not to develop tremendously skilled athletes to move to the next levels, nor to win games or titles. That part is up to the athletes themselves. So, it would make sense that awards at that level would follow that mantra as well. Coaches at the college and professional levels know who the good players are, and those players will have the opportunity to advance. We all know being a skilled player has nothing to do with being a good person. If we are going to continue to give these awards, I am very satisfied with using the whole person, not just the athletic skills part. Just me.
  9. This weekend will be a test of the dedication and grit of this team. Now that they are playing good Sioux hockey, they need to sweep this team at home, because they should, period. Not happy with a split or even three points. It they are going to contend this year (and we all know we have the talent to do so), they need to win all the games they should win, and that means the next four at home. I'm guessing we will be missing a blueliner for a couple of games so the rest of the team will have to play that much better. Is it Friday yet? Let's go Sioux!!!
  10. I agree with Siouxnami, they should be severely punished for their actions! Especially with the damning photo of JT, I think they should have to finish out their four years as a Sioux! Who would have thought, a college kid having a beer!
  11. Maybe the bartender at Judy's will be the special guest next week.
  12. Siouxnami, I can't believe you would suggest a dirty Goofer deserves the Hobey (even though Potulny deserved it last year). But as Sioux fans, all of us here at SS should go to hobeybaker.com and vote for Duncan. I know they put his name in late and he is already 10,000 votes behind the leading vote getters, but damnit he should be a finalist this year for what he has done for our team. I know the coaches have a majority of the power in this thing, but it would be nice to get Duncan some well deserved votes on the fan voting part. P diddy says vote or die!
  13. Did Bochenski not get put on the all star roster because of his injury? I figure that must be the case since he is tied for third in the league in pts. having only played 35 games. It would be nice to see him get a long term stay up with the big boys. He has always scored. I'm assuming they want him to work on his defense a little before they bring him up. It's not like they have four stacked lines preventing him from getting a chance. I see Stafford made the all star roster though.
  14. Since we are reminiscing Greyeagle, why didn't we knock you guys out last year... oh yeah, Holy Cross. You're right, it is fun to reminisce. And remember, unless we switch to the metric system, I think 7 is still greater than 5.
  15. Are you kidding me? I've already said it on other threads this week, but I think we can get 3 or 4 points this weekend. We know we have the talent, and we are finally playing the kind of hockey that will allow us to win games. We have future NHL stars who are now playing to their potential, a goalie who is playing with confidence and knows he can win in the mooch, and a defensive core that is finally playing with the Sioux tenacity we are used to. Throw away the records (otherwise we wouldn't play and give 4 pts to the goofers) because this is going to be a dogfight both nights. Man, is it 7 o'clock yet!!
  16. I believe he is still playing with the New Mexico Scorpions. He's got 25 pts (12G, 13A) in 35 games so far, but he does lead the team in penalty minutes. Here is the link to the team website... www.scorpionshockey.com/home I think he reads to children in the ICU unit on the weekends. Gotta love that guy!
  17. It's nice to have a little hockey talk about this series finally. Go figure it took a Goofer fan to get it started. I can't wait until Friday night! The only thing better than a two game Gopher-Sioux series is meeting in the postseason *cough, cough... Holy Cross shouldn't stand in the way this year, but we need to make the playoffs first. It's been said a hundred times, and I agree, that a split would be great. But lets give a little boost of confidence to the boys in Green, I think this is as good of time as any for a Sioux sweep. Lammy is playing as well as he ever has, our big boys finally stepped up last weekend, and we are playing pretty solid defensively. I think Briggs/Frazee will be the x-factors. They both have had their shining moments, but both have shown they can get frazzled and let in some weak goals. Lets crash the nets hard boys and take two from the #1 team in the nation!
  18. I didn't know we had such strict regulations on the forum boards about which content belongs where. Sorry I don't want to wade through 119 pages of posts to get to the new info I want to read. Anyways, Parise even made light of his performance... "I think I got a plastic star". Still pretty cool though.
  19. It's great to see him doing so well at the next level. What a great kid, he worked hard to be where he is at! Not a bad night for Kessel either with the hat trick and the game winner. It would be cool to see Zach with Blake on the big boy all stars next season! A Sioux fan can dream. A side note... we all know Zajac deserved to be in that game also. Way to go Zach!
  20. Mariucci over the Ralph?!? Sure sounds like delusional arena envy to me. It's like the guy who drives the Taurus saying his car is better because the Lexus has too many bells and whistles and runs too smoothly. Too much smoke inhalation fire helmet guy, I know there is no other place I would rather spend my Friday and Saturday nights... unless it is on a hot beach with a cold drink, but we live in the great white north.
  21. Back to the food spots... I've never eaten at Dave's, but Keith's Pizza is some of the best I've ever had.
  22. You are right, and you can pick whomever you want as your favorite. I love Toews and what he brings to the ice, I guess I was just expressing my dissapointment since this will most likely be his last year for the green and white. That is what these forums are for right, to get the conversation going. Bottom line, we all want the Sioux to succeed, possibly a third straight trip to the frozen four. I think we have the talent, we just need to play like it.
  23. I agree, Toews may very likely be the most talented player in the WCHA, but what has that done for the Sioux this season? This thread is talking about this seasons performance. I know he battled through an injury and is the player the other teams focus on stopping, but if you are the best player (or one of them) in college hockey, shouldn't you be able to overcome the adversity and put up more than four goals halfway through the season? This kid is a real talent and he never takes a shift off... hey just look how he performed for his own country in the world juniors, but unfortunately we may never see that potential in a Sioux jersey. I hope I'm wrong, becuase I know he can do so much more.
  24. I grew up a Penguins fan in the days of Lemieux, Francis, Samuelsson, and a young Jagr. Is there any truth to the rumors the Pens may relocate to Winnipeg, or is there no way they will get another NHL team? It would be pretty cool having another team so close, especially with all the young stars they have right now.
  25. Born - Omaha, NE Raised - Williston, ND College - Jamestown, ND and Omaha, NE Now live - West Fargo, ND oh yeah, and go fighting sioux!
