Both of their resumes are impressive. I didn’t realize how extensive Tibesar’s experience is until I looked it up again.

ASU is a great story this year. My dad winters down there so it's been fun to follow them. Their NIL collective must be doing well too. Their QB is getting $600k+ and ten players got Mustang Mach-E cars for their use while at ASU. Colorado has a majority of the top earners in the Big 12. I have some contact with a top hs basketball player being recruited nationally. NIL money was definitely a big part of their recruiting and decision on where to go to college.

I don't think your top 5 are bad choices and part of me hopes they pick someone from your top 5 so you have skin in the game. Maybe I can stop worrying that my expectations are too low and that is what causes us to lose some games.

I see potential advantaged both ways and neither path is certain. Successful HC is a plus but so is experience at a higher level which I am hoping brings better contacts for finding assistants, recruits and portal players.

I guess we’ll just have to disagree. For every Brian Kelly there are a lot of successful DII coaches like Don Morton, Jim Wacker or Earl Solomonson that failed when moving up to DI or DI-AA

I agree with that but was reacting to the notion that a DII head coach is inherently better positioned to succeed vs. coordinator level guys from FBS level. There is risk either way and I don't believe the narrative that the DII coach would be a safer pick. It is going to come down to the individual, not where they coached before.

Mediocrity is a potential outcome regardless of who is hired. I personally don't believe that going with a DII head coach has a higher probability of success vs. hiring any of the guys being discussed that have coached at the FBS level.

I don’t think so. Soon after he retired I talked to him at a signing he was doing. He was adamant he would never get into coaching. I’ve not heard of him coaching anywhere

I was in Cincinnati years ago and regret that I didn’t try it cuz I didn’t know it was a thing.

Winner. This wouldn’t be so funny except there is a slim possibility it’s true.

I wonder what the legal ramifications of that would be. When I was hiring in business world we had to open up the posting again with different qualifications if wanted to hire someone that didn't meet the minimum quals. Reasoning was that others might not have applied because they were in same situation and would have applied if at 7 years. Didn't want to get sued

If the requirement is that our HC had to be a coordinator for the #2 team in the country last year or for Alabama this year we're going to have to up the ante quite a bit. More realistic is that there's a fair amount of room between those positions and what we should expect for experience level for our new coach.

I only doubt this cuz he doesn’t meet minimum quals set in posting unless he really does have 8 years full time coaching experience. Is strange they’d set it beyond his experience if he was being considered

I really like Schmidt based on his mix of understanding the Midwest and UND and the experience he’s gained at higher levels since he was here. any idea on when we’ll know!

RT had this same philosophy about winning recruiting battles (against NDSU back then). One of his assistants told me the story about a big recruit RB or QB that almost flipped last minute to UND. In the end he stayed with SU and had a good career there but in the next few years they were able to out recruit NDSU for a number of players. That is what got the ball rolling for their success at UND.
