I believe the baseball decision was also monetary. I think they baseball budget for their last year was over $600k - going off distant memory. That seems really high based on what they had available to them so it must have been a lot of travel costs.

The time change/jet lag has got to be awful for athletes. I have been to Beijing about a dozen times and just functioning in a meeting can be rough at times. It really comes and goes but for me the first couple of days were the worst.

Based on the guys I played with the walk-ons were more likely to be local players vs. the scholarship recruits. That often leads to a closer connection to the university.
I don't remember the exact numbers but I read during the CInci-Bama game that Bama had 74 four or five star recruits on their roster. Cinci had 7.
That's a big disparity but I'm guessing there aren't many teams in G5 that even have 7.
