Just wondering if the NCAA monitors all the other teams that used to have "hostile and abusive" names to make sure their team, staff, etc no longer wear anything that reflects on the history and pride associated with their previous nickname? Marquette for example.

Minnesota players get it - as per their comments in the newspapers. It's a great rivalry and fun for them to play in. Minnesota fans can't stand it that a small school from a small state has created a college hockey dynasty - thank you Ralph.

Is anyone else tired of the on site announcer "Rusty" making sometimes subtle and sometimes not so subtle digs around North Dakota and Grand Forks. It seems he can never go through an interview without making some snide reference to his opinion that Grand Forks is hicksville. For those who have never been to a Final Five "Rusty" is a guy who runs around the crowd and does interviews for the big screen - most of which pit someone from one school against someone from another school. Then during the interview it becomes obvious he is fan of the rodents and thinks any town outside of the Twin Cities is a place to be made fun of. It's obvious he has a big of an opinion of himself.

First class plane tickets, posh hotel rooms, mansions, $200,000 for a glorified Division II game ....eh it's only taxpayer money.

That's a tough call - I'm really looking forward to the brunch.

Thanks for the correction. Changing directions a little - how crazy is it going to be in St. Paul this weekend 5 of six teams could bring lots of fans, St. Patrick's day in an Irish town and temperatures between 65 and 70 Thursday - Saturday - it's gonna be CRAZY!

That would be the school administration - not the Center Ice Club and its members. When Santos was President he was fixated on the nickname issue and left the school in financial shambles.

Yah but some fans of some schools like being in a weak conference it makes it easier for them to make the tournement.

Let's not bash too much on SCSU - they are great hosts when we come to town and it's a nice little rivalry - usually more like a hammer and nail one - but yet the Sioux almost always split in St. Cloud. I'm not talking about Friday night with anyone until we win Thursday - it's called Karma.

Just want clarification - the Hoggsbreath Sioux Brunch this year is Friday at 11 a.m. correct?

No doubt UND has the best college men's basketball team in North Dakota (women's team too but that's a different thread). Let's focus on what went right! Who is your MVP? Who is your biggest surprise of the year? How would you describe this team? Whatever else comes to mind...

Anybody know about fan buses, fan hotels. Is Al or others doing something?

It's looking good for me to attend the brunch again this year - will try to bring others as well. Is it okay for me to bring some Once a Sioux, Always a Sioux shirts and Decals in case some want them? (By the way - I'm on board with the need to move on from the name, I'm also passionate about the need to preserve the history and spirit of the name and not allow it to be scrubbed from our history.)

Glad I was wrong - nice to see in the highlights that UND had fans in the stands -some of the eastern schools appeared to be playing in empty rinks. Last week's loss is a non-issue especially in hockey. Sioux kan gjøre det.

The nickname preservationists should focus all their efforts on bringing down the NCAA - then they would have the support of the entire state of ND, UND alumni, and a growing media that is starting to shed light on the unfairness, hyprocracy and heavy-handedness of the NCAA.

The NCAA is looking for every way possible to be heavy handed with UND because of the nickname issue. I would be very surprised if UND was chosen, given the decision is made behind closed doors and because the NCAA is a "Private Entity" they do not have to justify their decisions. The letter from them last week, complete with misspelled names of UND administration, shows that the NCAA wants to come down hard on UND, despite the fact it's not the U that is leading the name issue. If the pro-nickname faction was smart they would focus all their efforts on the NCAA then they would have the backing of the entire state, all UND alumni and a growing national media that is starting to focus on the unfairness of this issue.

Nice to hear that Mr. Huff had a good game - college life is about much more than sports - it would be nice to see him again next year knowing that he continues to mature.

Keep in mind that su students will also be gone - which might be the greatest source of vindictive Yes votes.

Just don't think this belongs in a thread under UND Community - it would have been funny to me when I was in my teens-early 20s.
