I read this a few times and came to this conclusion It must be difficult typing something between shoveling piles of manure. Just what the hell does this mean, "Herd said that if the legislators because of the law suit don't retire the name?" I really don't have time to waste trying to comprehend your gibberish. The fact is, this lawsuit isn't going to go anywhere unless it gets filed in an US District Court. Even then, it probably doesn't have a prayer. As long as the parties that agreed to continue the retirement process with the NCAA continue that process, the NCAA and the BSC won't and can't do a thing to them. But, this action by the Spirit Lake Tribe can potentially embarrass the NCAA, which is the fun thing about it and what makes me enjoy it very, very much. I have to go now. He does have a minor point. However, I couldn't believe that if a third party sued the NCAA/UND/etc over this issue, especially a legitimate indigenous nation using the name, Sioux, it can do nothing but make the NC$$ look foolish. As long as UND/SBOHE/ND State Legislators go along with the plan to retire the name, what can the NCAA/Big Sky do to UND? It would just probably just open themselves up to litigation if they screamed foul or took action based on a third party's potential legal suit. This could be fun.

That would be interesting. Let's say the Sioux name at UND is retired. Spirit Lake then, somehow, takes ownership of the logo/artwork. Then, they sell that logo/artwork with green/black/white colored sports clothing simply saying, "North Dakota". Maybe even a "Fighting Sioux" under it. No mention of "University". Oh, wouldn't that be great!

It was in a dark alley in downtown Fargo, North Dakota. I was there visiting my uncle as a 12 year old boy. I went to a movie at the Fargo Theater. During the movie, three NDSU football players began heckling me and calling me, "four eyes". When I left the theater, they cornered me in a dark alley. The first one said, "Hey, give me your money so we can buy alcohol and drive drunk all over Fargo, it's a Bison tradition!". But, I refused. The second one lunged at me with a knife. I disarmed him and threw him to the ground. I put him in an armlock and waived the knife at the other two, who ran screaming like little girls. The one I held on the ground cried and cried. He made me promise not to tell anyone how three supposedly burly football players from NDSU were taken down by a scrawny twelve year old kid. I let him go. Today, I broke that promise. And that's why I am a fan of the Fighting Sioux. Cuz they don't pick on young boys, try to steal and drive around Fargo drunk. It's my story and I'm sticking to it!

I looked at the Northern Kentucky website. They use that moniker, "Norse Force". It seems okay to me.

why not? Seriously, I think Northern Kentucky is the only university with the name, "Norsemen". I've never heard of them before today. So, I think it would be fairly unique. http://www.mascotdb.com/displaymatches.php?mascot=Norsemen I'm sure I'll change my mind next week...

I'm starting to warm up to the idea of the name, "Norsemen" or even "Fighting Norsemen". Now, who is that going to piss off?

That Sioux design is the sharpest and best image in the NCAA...period. I liked the old Blackhawk logo back in my day, and I absolutely hated that geometric design. the one used today is easily the best! Even though I have dozens of Sioux items with that design, I'm going to hoard some more before it goes away!

I have to admit, some of those are pretty funny. Hey, if it were them rather than us, we'd be having as much fun. Although our new names for NDSU would be much, much funnier!

I'm not going to lie. I cheered when I heard what had happened with the vote of the ND legislature. Knee jerk reaction...absolutely. I was P'O'd! After I calmed down and found out the ramifications, I changed my mind. Now, I know we are forced to change the name. It sucks, but that's reality.

Although I doubt it will make any difference and the Sioux name will be retired, I would LOVE to see the Spirit Lake tribe sue the NCAA. The reaction of the NCAA would be even more fun to watch!

That would be unique. However, I'd like to see something specific to that region or the state of North Dakota.

I will say that although they use the words, "North Dakota Fighting Sioux", the merchandise does not use any of the Sioux logos, but the name "Sioux" is on at least one item. Most of it is pretty generic, with the ND interlocking logo and the name "North Dakota". Still strange that they would even go that far after they fuss they made.

Good point. My initial reaction was the Hell with it, who cares? However, ultimately it needs to be a decent name that future generations can be proud to wear and cheer. (Even though I'll probably always yell Sioux!) Initially, I liked Rough Riders. But, four problems. 1. The CFL team already exists. 2. Red River high school already uses it. 3. Teddy Roosevelt isn't as easily associated with North Dakota as people believe. 4. The obvious condom references. So, let's keep tossing names about. Yeah, Turd Sandwich isn't going to work...

Oh, I suppose we need to choose something. I'm trying to decide between Giant Douche and Turd Sandwich... I go Turd Sandwich!
