  1. As the thread title implies, I'm only questioning why you would invest so much time and money into retaining it when such a risk of losing it all over again will always exist. If the agreement had been "come to an agreement with both tribes at one time and UND may use the nickname for all time afterward", that'd be different.
  2. Yeah but contracts are thrown out of court all the time. All it would take is a pro tribal judge and a new tribe leader who claims that his tribe was coerced into signing the thing and it's thrown out and the situation reverts to the original agreement.
  3. If I am reading the agreement correctly the tribes can change their minds at any time and UND would be right back to where they are now. IE, the leaders of both tribes could come to an agreement with UND to let the school continue using the Sioux logo and name and then 5 years later a new leader could come back and say "not any more" and there's nothing UND could do about it. Is that what you guys really want? Plus, the U of MN is not going to play you guys in any sport other than hockey as long as you have the Sioux name and logo. No UND/UM football games. No basketball games. Etc. Why not just be "The University of North Dakota" and use the interlocked ND logo that the football team has been using?
  4. Even if they do agree, all that has to happen is for a new tribe leader to be elected that doesn't like the deal and he can call it off any time he wants.
  5. The U of South Dakota was founded in 1862 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_South_Dakota).
  6. I don't see anything wrong with admitting USanDiego as a non scholarship team. But if it's going to be a scholarship team, then it's probably going to have to be a current Calif. DI school that restarts or starts football. Something like Pacific.

  8. Same antilogic argument made by the rest of the Bisonville bunch. Naturally, if it's guaranteed that a team will sell your stadium out, you won't want to schedule them because other teams might sell it out.
  9. Will Taylor want to tie up the Fargodome to the tune of 19.5k sold out STO one year and then have the cheapest travel possible for the team and fans the next year, not to mention restarting one of the longest played and greatest rivalries in football at any division? I think you're right, it's unclear if he's prepared to make that kind of sacrifice.
  10. The reason they were able to "work it out" in 2004 was because Saint Mary's dropped football. That allowed the open dates to match up for a full round robin.
  11. Hang on just a damn minute there, professor. Why don't we just let the NTSB decide what happened before you start saying crap like this.
  12. Great West/Summit Leauge sounds like a good fit for UND/USD at least through transition. Then after that we'll see about getting you into the Gateway.
  13. The GFH also didn't mention whether or not USD ever submitted their fee to join DI. I'm sure they have their situation under control.

Wouldn't it have to be UAF then? They're DI in hockey, which makes them a DI school.
  15. Looks like you were right: http://www.startribune.com/10204/story/1339411.html
  16. I'll put my guess down as expansion joint failure. . If that expansion joint locked up, both sides of the bridge become pinned and you have members with internal forces that exceed the tolerance of the material.
  17. Is there any possible terrorist suspicions? Not like this bridge hasn't seen its fair share of cars. Why would it collapse only now? And coinciding with Twins.
  18. Some witness on CCO is saying that 20-30 cars went into the water at least, many dead. Guess we'll know more later.
  19. If a school wants to and has the ability to grant 85 football scholarships, I see no reason why they shouldn't be allowed to do so.
  20. I guarantee that there will be major shakeups within the next 10 years. Colorado going to the Pac 10, Syracuse or Rutgers going to the Big 10, and the Big East split will cause many moves. Maybe up to 25.
  21. Then I don't quite understand what this lawsuit could possibly establish. The NCAA is a nationwide private club. To join that club you have to follow their rules. If they say you can't have an Indian mascot, what could any ruling by a court in the state of ND possible do? Make it so that you can have an Indian mascot in the state of North Dakota? So? How is that going to stop the NCAA from barring UND from hosting post season games? They can simply decide that you don't get to do that for any reason they want. It's a private club. Is there going to be a lawsuit for every single state? Or at the least, shouldn't the lawsuit have to be in Indiana?
  22. A mistrial would seem to be the only reasonable conclusion of any trial held in Grand Forks. That's way too easy. I'd say a fair trial could only be held outside of the state of ND.
  23. Any word of you guys upgrading to fieldturf? I'm pretty sure the Fargodome is going to have the same turf as last season. The U of Idaho is installing fieldturf in the Kibbie Dome: http://www.govandals.com/ViewArticle.dbml?...;ATCLID=1136611 So it's a closer comparison to what NDSU and UND have vs. stadiums like the Metrodome. If Idaho can do it, NDSU and UND should do it.
  24. Reminds me of Homer trying to build a BBQ pit. WHY DOESN'T MINE LOOK LIKE THAT?! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1BZovSSp6I
  25. Not necessarily better options. Cheaper options.
