  1. Actually, there are eight autobids in FCS. They go the champions of the following conferences: Southern Big Sky Southland CAA Gateway OVC MEAC Patriot The eight at-large are selected by a committee and is supposedly based on the GPI, which (I think) is a BCS-style formula that takes into account polls and computer rankings.
  2. You're dead to me.
  3. I would think Montana is in the unique situation (for FCS schools) that they can probably make almost as much playing a DII at home as they can playing a guarantee game. They did play Iowa last year (don't know what the guarantee was) so they aren't totally immune to playing FBS teams.
  4. The problem is not filling out a schedule with DI opponents. It's filling out a schedule with DI opponents and still maintaining a profitable athletic department. Montana apparently refuses to play anyone on the road, and a DII opponent will come to Montana cheaper than a FCS opponent would. They'll sell the place out no matter who they play, so I guess you can't really blame them.
  5. I seriously hope no NDSU fan would be stupid enough to comment on the abrupt departure of an AD.
  6. Uh, no. Believe it or not, many football teams utilize 2 safeties on the field at the same time. The Giants kept 4 safeties (even though Dahl is listed as CB on their roster I'm pretty sure he'll play safety). So he's not a 4th string safety.
  7. I agree with MplsBison on two things: Arkansas will never ever ever ever ever ever leave the SEC, for cultural reasons as much as financial ones. And CU and TU could very well end up in the PAC-10 if the Big 12 ever has any defections.
  8. I didn't click on the link but I presume you're talking about Craig Bohl, of course. But, IMO, that's a non-sequitur. The question isn't whether Tibesar would be successful in the transition, it's whether he would voluntarily leave KSU to become UND's head coach. I didn't mean this to be smack, just looking for your guys' opinions.

    Tim Tibesar

I've heard his name come up alot regarding the speculation that Lennon's gone. But I just don't see anybody leaving a DC position at a BCS school to become head coach at the FCS level. I assume he'd have to take a pay cut. I also think remaining at KSU would be a better career track to a good head coaching gig in FBS someday. Thoughts?
  10. It was $200 in Ward County in 1995.. err, so I heard.
  11. About this whole matter. It says explicitly in the article the buildings were bought with private money at a cheaper price than if a building would have been built on campus. I personally think it is generally a good thing when government has limited power. This is a prime example. Thank God the legislature was stripped of some its powers in dealing with the NDUS. Running a large government entity is similar to running a business. Hire good people and let them make decisions.
  12. There has never been and is currently no ill will toward NDSU from any folks out west. I lived there the majority of my life and still have many friends and relatives back there. You hear the stupid anti-Fargo rhetoric very infrequently, but that never corellates into negative feelings toward NDSU.
  13. So is this the first time the Bison and Sioux will play a common opponent since we moved up? That should make for some interesting conversation.
  14. That's a pretty good story.
  15. That post, my friend, is pure comedic genius.
  16. It's not a school song.
  17. Did my post really need a smiley?
  18. If you play "Yellow and the Green" backwards you can hear Joe Chapman saying derogatory things about Native Americans.
  19. Georgia Southern's coming to Fargo in 2008 to return the trip we made down there this past year. From the site SiouxMD linked they were penalized about 5.5 scholarships and it looks like that was for the 2005-2006 academic year; whether they're still under probation I have no idea. A top level FCS team to open the season would almost be guaranteed a sellout at the Fargodome. The Bison always draw well for the opener, even for crappy opponents. As a Bison fan, I am not upset we will not play the Sioux in 2007. I am quite indifferent about the whole thing, and have really enjoyed the rivalry being halted. I honestly think it would be best for the well-being of both schools in the long-term if the rivalry was never resumed, but I realize that will probably not happen. I really think the hatred and animosity that exists between the two institutions could be tempered somewhat if they never met on an athletic field again.
  20. You can absolutely transfer from FBS to FCS without sitting out a season. It's a fairly common occurrence.
  21. Plus SUU would almost be a guaranteed W for you guys.
  22. Well, the difference in total allocated revenue from the NCAA can be accounted for almost solely in the GIA column. This makes sense since the Big Sky had eight members playing football when these numbers were calculated, while the Mid-Con only had two. That's about 380 extra grant-in-aids. However, each school receives this money individually, so you are in a way "rewarded" for having football (or a lot of grant-in-aids in general). It can be pretty misleading when reported on a conference basis. Obviously, a school such as Chicago State is going to have quite a bit lesser athletic budget than Montana, simply because they don't sponsor football. As such, their total allocation from the NCAA will be lower; however, their actual bottom line could be better (yeah, Chicago State's not the best example).
  23. I'm pretty sure the Forum had an online discussion for it about a month ago. It received quite a few replies, but you probably can't access it anymore.
  24. I'd post on here alot more but I'm afraid of the state tracking me down using my IP address. Now if you'll excuse me I have to go.
