And unfortunately the political leadership (I use that term loosely) in Minot and Ward County is not prepared to handle this growth.

POLL: Should UND-NDSU Resume the Football Series?
NDSU grad replied to ShilohSioux's topic in Football
A) Not the Bison. LOL B) No idea C) Tony Stauss and John? Bowenkamp D) 28-21 E)Can't remember his name. A tall wr for you guys who of course Bobby Babich couldn't cover F)Kyle Steffes, but I don't think it was the pentultimate play of the game G)Rod Malone H)Digger Anderson -
Obviously Nike has a big hand in determining Oregon's uniform choices. I kind of looked NDSU's yellow jerseys, (they're definitely not gold) even though I'm in the minority on that one. My pick for worst of the week is definitely Maryland.

I think the reason myself and other people not associated with UND are following this issue so closely is because we know this is about Al Carlson's charge to have the legislature take over higher education in North Dakota. He is simply using the Sioux name as a backdrop because of the emotions and publicity that go along with it.

Yes, because there is a shortage of welders in the oilfield.

Not really using Bowbells as a comparison, I just know that's where they played the Class C District Tournament for Northwest ND back in the day, and it was sort of a regional center just because of all the coal activity. You're right, the situation in Burke County is dire. The school in Bowbells can't possibly hold on for much longer, and the numbers for Burke Central in Lignite are in the 10-14 kids/class range. The Annabelle Homes project looks impressive, but even if there's jobs in the area I would expect most people to commute from Kenmare and Crosby, even in this day of high gas prices.

Wow. That's impressive. When my dad was growing up, Columbus was considered a bigger town. It will be interesting to see if the potash mining comes to fruition. It could be a boom for Bowbells, Lignite, and Columbus.
-
Annabelle Homes does seem to do things the "right way". They seem to be interested in actually developing a community rather than just putting up cheap housing. I don't have very high hopes for towns like Columbus and Plaza, but this boom could be revitalizing for towns like Stanley, Tioga, and Watford City.

We lost our house in Minot Monday night. Probably to the main level by now. Not looking forward to the messy cleanup, but I'm sure some folks on this board have been through it.

Wow, this is a bit of a surprise. I thought he went to Bismarck to be closer to his kids. If NDSU was smart, they'd insist on getting Michaels back to provide color commentary or be a sideline reporter. I think he's one of the best around.
-
It will be interesting to see the official census numbers when they come out. Ward County will probably be right on the heels of Grand Forks County, and if the oil activity keeps up, will probably surpass it by 2020.

Excuse me for butting in here, but Mathiason was never a big recruit. He never put up numbers for North Border and was a project for you guys from the get-go. I don't even think he's on scholarship, is he?
-
Ummm, so did NDSU. Bohl's first year was our exploratory year. I really don't think replacing a coach is that big of a factor; obviously the important thing is to hire the right guy. I'm not invested in your program like you guys are, so I can't say if Mussman is that guy or not.

LOL. Most of the tuition waivers were granted to grad students.
-
Actually, what most NDSU fans fear is the loss of the autobid and a return to the scheduling woes we faced when we were members of the GWFC. Having 6 teams doesn't guarantee an autobid.

Mac underperformed at ISU. This is really a win-win for both parties. ISU gets a new coach without having to buy out his contract and Mac gets a pretty sweet gig in a good conference with a great long-term contract.

Headline seems to be a tad misleading. From the article. "The money will not come from taxpayer funds or tuition dollars. It comes from interest income, auxiliary revenues and Coke and Pepsi commissions." Although I do think the Development Foundation is absolutely wrong on this one. They should be responsible for providing the balance of the funds to cover the cost overruns.

Please. Non-alums west of the RRV don't really care that much about this rivalry. Sure, they would maybe watch on tv if it was on but they don't live or die over it. There would be a few people in the Grand Forks media (cough, Ryan Bakken, cough) who would make some snide remarks but it wouldn't be as big of a deal as you're making it out to be.

I think it's more difficult to find FCS caliber d-linemen than it is FCS caliber linebackers in this region. Not counting juco's, I would say NDSU has had 3-4 FCS caliber d-linemen in the last 3-5 years, while they have had 5-6 FCS caliber linebackers. I wish NDSU would switch to the 3-4.

Not even an HM for Kevin Klancher at QB?

There was an opinion piece by Doug Burgum in the Forum today espousing that exact view. Really makes a lot of sense.

North Dakota has anti-corporate farming laws as well. Google "North Dakota Century Code" and it won't be hard to find.

My wife works at Minot State, and has attended a few of the forums they have been holding. IMO, Minot State fits really well in DII providing they get into a league. And the new wellness center looks very impressive.
