  1. Be careful! You are one more comment away from being tarred and feathered.
  2. Yep. I received the email at 3:15. Seems like Kelleys decision was made some time ago regarding North Dakota option. Just chose to drag it out for some reason.
  3. These names really do suck! It's amazing this was the best that they came up with. Lesser of all evils at this point is North Stars.
  4. What the hell is a fighting hawk? I guess when we lose in the Frozen Four semifinal game the headline will be easy. "Fighting Hawk Down!"
  5. My bad! That makes it much better. Count me in for Fighting Hawks. Nobody goes by the Hawks!
  6. Great post! The way I see it is this name is not a whole lot worse than the others on the list. What would you have voted for if the finalists would have been narrowed down to North Dakota vs Sundogs? Who would have been throwing the fit then?
  7. The sh1at show continues at UND! I can't wait until Kelley is gone. Talk about pulling off the bandaid as slow as possible for the people who wanted to stay just North Dakota. I have know idea what to vote for at this point. Here is my perspective on the options I have. Roughriders - A forum favorite by those that wanted a new nickname for the sake of having a new nickname at all costs. I don't like it because it already exists in Grand Forks. Unique? Nope. Not to mention the CFL football team and the prophylactic brand! North Stars - Not embrassed here because of the use by the state of Minnesota. Ironically the Roughrider supporters haven no problem with the double standard with the use of Roughriders. Unique? More so then Roughriders as there really isn't any local or regional ties to the North Star name as it relates to a sports team. Green Hawks - A great use of a marketing consultant to come up with this one. What did Miami (OH) do? What are the school colors? Red, Ok we're the Red Hawks. UND. What are the school colors? Green, Ok we're the Green Hawks. Maybe if the Bison name gets booted because it has been deemed a sacred symbol to NA's they could become the Yellow Hawks? Unique? Maybe. Original, you can't be any more unoriginal. Nodaks - As a native North Dakotan, this is borderline deragatory. I don't get offended by anyone calling me a Nodak, but I have not and hopefully never will have to idenify myself by this name. Unique? I guess, except for the electric cooperative that uses the name. Sundogs - When I first started saying that this was a possibility years ago, and that was one of the reasons I wanted to stay North Dakota people on this board blasted me saying there was no chance this was going to be the nickname. Fast forward until now and here we are with this laughable name as a finalist. Unique? Very. Identifiable to the area? Yep. Lame as hell? Undoubtably! So here are my options. I sure have the warm fuzzy feeling about a new nickname.
  8. At this point I say let them try to impose sanctions to a school that officially has no-nickname. The media and free-speech proponents would have a field day with this giving the NCAA another black eye. The NCAA has done their liberal duties by removing NA imagery from schools. The way I see it, they have already tip-toed around the free speech issue and really don't want to deal with this anymore. The problem I see is that the administration at UND is prodding the NCAA to help them with the mess they are in. Kelley and co. don't know what to do right now because the no-nickname movement has gained so much steam. The overwhelming majority of people I talk to about this issue can't stand the list of finalists and just want to stay North Dakota. IMO.... If something lame is forced on us, people will reject it and we will have to go back and revisit the process in the future.
  9. We used to call particular guys from Minnesota fishing and hunting in North Dakota "Soties". It was meant to be derogatory because of their lack of ethics in the outdoors. I have heard Nodaks used similarly by people in Minnesota implying we North Dakotans are all rednecks. What comes around goes around I guess. Nonetheless, Nodaks is a stupid nickname!
  10. I like the Heralds poll better which includes none of the above. This poll to me is like answering the question; What would you like to accomplish today? 1.) Drown 2.) Be electrocuted. 3.) Get shot in the face. 4.) Head on collision with semi. 5.) Sky dive without a parachute What about 6.) None of the above? By the way........ guess which option in the herald is winning by a landslide?
  11. What a joke! Brad was spot on and you dismiss his opinion because he is a hockey only guy. Give it a rest, then do as Fetch implied!
  12. What a $h1t $how! It's time these people get the bird and tell them we've had enough of their enlightening soap box speeches. What a joke! These people only survive in places like universities. The private sector would chew them up and spit them out. And Petey.....respectfully speaking to them has lost its luster.
  13. Yeah and it would have saved me from explaining to my daughter why we had to change our nickname because the NCAA said it was hostile and abusive!
  14. Red wolves.......great nickname. Very unique. If we could have rushed into something, I would have loved to see....Green Eagles, Green Hawks, Green Wolves, Green Bulldogs, or Big Green. That would have been awesome!
  15. Maybe I will write Rep Carlson to see if we can get a perpetual moratorium on the UND nickname. Or as another option, extend the cooling off period another 5-7 years.
  16. . When you think Duke, you think BB. When you think Alabama, you think FB. When you think UND, you think ..............? Duke has a football team in which many fans are passionate about, but you don't really think of Duke as a FB school. Same could be said about Alabama and BB. Like it or not, UND is known for its hockey. This doesn't mean that the other sports can't be competitive. It's just the way it is. I don't think the NFL is looking at Bubba or Brian Jones as potential coaching candidates. Hakstol just signed a deal with the Flyers as the first college coach to make the jump since Badger Bob. I'm not saying scrap the other sports, I love going to football games when we are competitive. It's not a hockey only attitude, it's just the fact that people are more supportive/interested in teams that have more success. Sorry, but that is the reality!
  17. I am not Scandinavian, and am now offended! ?
  18. Or better yet, Mussman should never had been hired in the first place. That is why I lost interest in the football program during his regime. This has been my problem with the ADs office for some time. They never went out of their comfort zone to hire an "outsider". Saying that, I am happy that they hired Berry. Hiring him at this juncture of the hockey program is a no-brainer. Conversely, Mussman's hiring was a joke. A friend of mine who played during the early 90's asked me why I quit following the football team during Muss' second or third season. My response was.......as soon as UND starts taking football seriously, I would once again take UND football seriously. That didn't happen until a year and a half ago. Unfortunately, the damage was done and Bubba will need a year or two more to clean the Muss that was left for him. Hockey will always be the #1 sport at UND as long as it is successful. It is just the way it is, mostly because of its tradition of being an elite program. It also doesn't hurt that GF is a hockey town. However, when football becomes relevant again, people will rally around them. The good news is Bubba seems to be on the right track.
  19. There are many of us that agree with this post. Not so much with the behind the scenes power of the gobc, but us other minions are out there in numbers. Good post!
