I think this describes the mods' challenge well. If someone comes into random UND threads just to taunt, it's obvious and we take care of it quickly. But if they participate on topic in an existing discussion (e.g. about NDSU) but have an unpopular opinion, they get a lot more leeway because they are participating in the conversation. That said, there's some threshold beyond which we don't want to be welcoming to a person who is just here to annoy other people. That line is very subjective and people are bound to disagree on where it is, so the mods move a lot more slowly in trying to make sure they agree and get those calls right. A few more random thoughts in response to some of the discussion over the last page or so: I agree that there has been a noticeable uptick in trolling from NDSU fans this year relative to past years. That might also contribute to why the response has been a little slower than some of you might have liked. Your reports and these discussions do matter, and moderation is occurring. There have been something like a dozen reports, multiple deleted posts, multiple closed threads, multiple warnings issued, multiple suspensions, and at least one ban in the last few weeks. I know no one likes it, but closing threads actually does seem to work. When a thread goes off the rails and a mod goes in and says "please get back on topic", someone (often even a poster in good standing) can't resist trying to get in the last word and the off-topic discussion keeps going. When threads are closed the legitimate discussion resumes in a different place, but the off-topic stuff usually seems not to follow. Yes, a UND/NDSU game thread is going to contain some smack. We'll try hard not to let it bleed into other areas.

If that's what a notable majority of the community wanted, we'd certainly consider it, but most of the demand I've heard for such comes from Bison fans. If you scroll back up, most of the comments are asking for us to be more aggressive about removing people who are just here to taunt UND fans, not give them a sanctioned playground.

Not a miracle -- at first clearing the cache fixed it for everyone but people using IE 11. That led me to find a known bug with the forum and IE 11 that I fixed. But, some people might have needed to clear the cache again if they hadn't done so since the fix. Glad it's working for everyone now!

Did you try both the things I recommended here -- http://forum.siouxsports.com/topic/15972-forum-upgrade/?p=719746 and neither made a difference? The problem that I'm having is that it's not failing for everyone with a particular browser (e.g. plenty of us have it working with IE). I was able to duplicate it myself once in IE, but after I fixed a known problem with IE11 it went away after I hit shift-reload, which is what has me thinking people still experiencing it might have bad cached content.

The quoting problem still really seems like a cached content issue. But, even if not, some of the diagnostics are the same. A couple things people could try: * Switch themes. Click "Change Theme" in the lower left and choose "IP.Board". That will switch to the default theme which your browser shouldn't have cached. * Try to force your browser to reload all the assets. On most PCs, holding "Shift" while hitting browsers reload button will cause it to reload all of the assets for the page, not relying on anything cached. Meanwhile, I'll try to see if I can cause the names of the files in question to change, which would force everyone's browsers to load the new versions because the browsers will no longer think they have those files cached.

Ok, I worked with the forum vendor and they're pretty sure the popup problem is fixed. As to the people having problems quoting -- I've only been able to duplicate it once, by grabbing an old laptop (that hasn't accessed the forum during the upgrade). As soon as I forced a fresh load (hold shift while hitting reload) it began working. Clearing the browser cache would have the same effect. So, I still think that problem is just people getting a mix of the new software plus some old content cached on their web browser. If anyone clears the cache and still has problems quoting, let me know. I've tested in Safari / IE / Firefox / Chrome / iOS.

I find it quite reminiscent to how the opposition to the Sioux name percolated through the media.

I can duplicate the "checked posts" problem on OSX/Safari, but not the quote problem. So, I'll have to wait until I can get back in front of an iPad to look into it. Meanwhile, anyone having the quote problem on iPad/Safari could try "Change Theme" (in the lower left corner) back to the default IP.Board theme to see if that resolves it for you. That would help me in determining whether it's a problem with SiouxSports' customizations or not.

One more quick question... Are people still experiencing this (the "With 1 checked posts" popup) If so, what browser? I only seem to be able to duplicate it myself on Safari.

Well guys, I'm baffled. I can reproduce the popup problem sometimes, but not consistently. My first thought was that it had something to do with a mix of old and new content (e.g. parts of the old forum cached somewhere), but I've reset everything I can think of both on the forum side and clearing my own browser caches and cookies and can still occasionally reproduce it. So, I've reached out to the forum vendor for some help. Sorry it's been slow going, I'll keep you posted.

Got it. Yeah, I think that's just your phone asking if it should memorize your password for you. As far as why it thinks it has changed from before, it might be that the name of the password field has changed or something subtle like that.

Hmmm.... I'm not surprised it made you login again, but I don't know why it would ask if you want to change your password. I don't see any settings related to password expiration, and I haven't been able to replicate the popup. Anyone else see that?

I upgraded the forums from software version 3.3.x to 3.4.x tonight. This brings us from a couple years behind to up-to-date. Changes should be pretty minor from your perspective, but please let me know if you see anything wrong.
