Yeah, I used to have a web page that made it really easy to see the potential impacts of future games. The new system made that a lot harder. I think I've finally figured out how to do it and present it, but it's a lot of work to get it developed. Hopefully for next season.

All other things equal (adding just those two games to the existing results), a split keeps Minnesota at 14. Getting swept has them plummet to 19. When you add in the other games, things look a little worse for Minnesota. Depending how other teams do, they seem most likely to fall between #14 and #17 if they split, with #15-16 most likely.

Simplified-- you get more credit for winning on the road than at home, but get dinged more for losing at home than on the road. You also get a bonus for beating other top teams. This is all meant to incentivize good teams to play other good teams and to play more road games.
-
The quality win bonus (QWB) is dependent on RPI rank, so in that way you need to make two passes (one to calculate RPI rank, then one to apply bonuses). So, as your opponents move up and down in rank, the bonus you get for having beat them also goes up and down. The on the road vs home adjustment is different. In the base RPI, road wins and home losses are amplified while road losses and home wins are reduced (by multiplying the game RPI effects by 1.2 and .8, respectively). Final wrinkle -- the QWB is also weighted the same as the games based on home vs. away.

Neither Niagara or Holy Cross affect us much.

Sorry guys, there was about a 20 minutes follow-up to this today. I knew it was coming but forgot to warn you all. That should be it, though.

I think some of the discussion here has pushed the boundaries of a couple of the forum rules: I'd appreciate people keeping it family friendly. Thanks.

As mentioned earlier in this thread, some OS's apparently expand the text of links into hyperlinks when they're pasted (e.g. some versions of IE). Not much we can do about that other than hope that newer versions of the forum software recognize the browser and fix up the pasted link accordingly. I'm definitely not going to try to change anything before the Frozen Four, but maybe this summer.

I'm on Safari on OS X and can leave it, but haven't tried an iPad/iPhone. Will look into it.

So this is a great thread idea. Who's next, Sic? I'm feeling some Liberace...
-
Me too, but I don't have to remove the s.

0-2 on the specific Queen song. I nailed the GNR and the fact that there was Queen No changing my pick, but my first thought on Queen was actually Show Must Go On, but I decided to go more mainstream Should always go with the gut.
-
So close, I was just going for Greatest Hits I. If we're talking hand-picked, I'll bet a little bit of this:
-
And if there's Wham, there better be Queen
-
I'm feeling a little GNR coming off Mafiaman.... (https:// links continue to work for me)
-
So that was an https:// link and it worked for me.
-
Very interesting, thanks for putting that together.

In all seriousness, development on this version of this forum software has stopped as the vendor focuses on rolling out a new version. The bad pattern match on http but not https is a great example (which I might be able to fix myself, and will give it a shot). I'll decide this summer whether to move to their new version or change course.

You're all crazy, it just works for me

Miami (UND's opponent next week) is enough tougher than Bemidji St (Mankato's opponent next week) that UND should have the edge if both emerge with comparable weekend records. Both are road series, so wins will be overweighted and losses underweighted. Of course, as we saw this weekend, it's so close that other things could change and offset that advantage.
-
UND's lead over Minnesota State is a razor thin 58.97 to 58.83 in RPI. If those were the only two games played tonight, Minnesota St gets enough of an additional RPI bonus from beating Mich Tech that Minnesota State would retake #1 if both Minnesota St and UND win. If both lose, however, UND keeps the lead. Of course, those aren't the only two games being played tonight, and the margins are thin enough that something else could flip.

Duplicate of discussion here.

We're back on! Thanks for patience.
