2021-22 University of North Dakota Hockey Season
burd replied to Frozen4sioux's topic in Men's Hockey
Did any team in the country lose more talent than UND did coming in to this year? Then to go to possibly win the regular season title to the best conference in the country? And they are doing it by closing strong without their only top draft pick. Some serious coaching going on there. And part of that is not Xs and Os; it's getting the boys to believe in the system and play as a team. I have a hunch there are zero locker room problems with this team. -
Great to see they can win that kind of game against a very good team this time of year. Have to be able to win that way to go far in NCAAs. Omaha's win last night was impressive that way.

Wisconsin hockey was a smart, fine-looking woman who lost her job and other things important to her and just let herself go. Now she doesn't look good until just before closing time. But dam, she and Sioux had some good times back in the day. The formation B1G hockey and the resulting breakup of the WCHA was bad news for a lot of schools, but with expansion to new schools, Big Ten hockey was gonna happen. Putting it on Alvarez is OK with me though.

Wait a minute. If Sandy recruits grindaz, why are we gonna fire Berry for recruiting grindaz?

Pretty big weekend, though a difficult one. The McNaughton used to be a big accomplishment, certainly bigger than the conference tourney. The Penrose may even be a bigger deal, given the strength of this conference. That said, the pairwise implications of these last games may even be of more importance than the Penrose, With Western coming in this weekend and some pairwise points to be had (or lost) beginning with the second round of the conference tourney, this team could a 2 or even 1 seed. 1 is not likely, but possible. 4 is also possible, of course. Dont know the system well enough to know whether missing the bubble is possible, though I'd guess it is. Ordinarily, I'd say that seeding isn't that big a deal, since they have to beat all comers eventually anyway. But this team is not going to overpower the field, and they will need every advantage they can get to get very far in the tourney, Should they sweep this weekend, the Penrose chances look pretty dang good, which would be an amazing accomplishment for this roster. Slam dunk COY, IMO (though that award should be coaching STAFF of the year--for any team).

Do Mankato fans still do the Ole Ole soccer cheer? I think it was them. Bullfighting cheer actually
-
About as good a news as we could have expected.,
-
The same dynamic happens in a single game. Emotions disguised as analysis. But hey, that's what we fans do.
-
And yet, you remain in retirement? C'mon, Wilbur, you have at least that covid year left to burn.
-
To get very deep in the tournament, our forwards will eventually need to score some goals. Be nice to get Senden and Gaber back on the ice.
-
Now how in the hill do you find that?

When good people throw dead bulldogs on the ice, which end to they typically use?

The community itself has got to matter to some. These kids rarely come directly from small towns in western Canada or Minnesota anymore. They nearly all play junior hockey in a large city or bigger town before going to college. Life off the ice in places like Boston, Denver, Minneapolis and even Madison is very different from what it is in GF. Whether that is a factor that hurts UND much of the time is difficult to tell, I suppose, but the days when kids from Estevan or Warroad identified with UND because of its small town feel are probably on the decline.
-
Would be nice to have Biondi--he can play. As skilled as he is, I wouldn't take him over Gaber, though.

The problem I have is that irony, satire, sarcasm, all have a literal believability aspect that makes them work. Openly declaring those kinds of comments robs them of that, IMO. But we live in a hot/cold world, unfortunately, where nuance has been devalued.

UMD, you've been grinda'd
-
You need to have your glasses on to see it. Those glasses.
-
UND without its best player, captain, and top scorer and yet is beating UMD in its own building for the second night in a row. Sandy is just being outcoached, plain and simple. edit: feel like I need to apologize for the smiley. Just too many literal readers around here.

They are both (all three, actually) young, and the chances that other programs come hunting are good, probably already have, although I don't know what the rules are regarding that.
-
He might have been having some fun, Texan.
-
You may very well be right, Cratter. These kids have probably had pretty young coaches during their teens too, coaches moving up through the junior system.

Before this year, 8 of the last 10 Super Bowl winning head coaches have been in their 60s. The other two, Pederson and Harbaugh, were 49 and 40. I'm guessing they were even older going back further. But as to your point, Gwoz, Lucia, Eades, and Blais were all pretty young when they won their first. Probably similar to Berry? I don't know how old Red was in his first one--did they even keep records back before artificial ice?
