  1. The Sioux had a JV team in those days, and some of the JV guys did not like Gino at all. I think Rube was pretty mellow at that point, and Gino had some edge, and I suspect he was in charge of the JV squad. Sounds like a lot of you guys remember the old barn. No heat so sneaking in booze and win in those big air force parkas was so easy it was hardly hidden. Wire mesh in the end zone, where the cymbals guy would crash opposing players when they got their head up against the wire.
  2. Did you get to know Greg Cameron?
  3. I saw that first game as well (Jeff Sauer and CC, I believe) after watching a year of games at the old barn and returned in '89.

That's not picking, that's mining for gold.
  5. Were you a student in those days, W Sioux?
  6. I think you meant circle of sticks.
  7. Lot of chances to hear "Justin Doooooooooooooooooooobermannnnn"
  8. If you call him, and I hope you do, ask him what he remembers about the circle of sticks.
  9. fiche or are they scanned in?
  10. Are the old Herald articles electronically searchable?
  11. We talk about the explosive firepower we had with DOT, but that team could really put the puck in the net.
  12. Assuming this was the Greg Johnson-Dixon Ward led offense, I can sure see that happening. I was a student then as well and did not miss games without a reason, but I don't remember that one. Sober then and senile now, so . . .
  13. Hell, grant him tenure. He'll be even better when he's 75.

I always thought getting hammered involved drinking too much alcohol. Now I understand that is not true--you can get Hammered simply by watching Sioux hockey.

Tim H uses "cleared but not out" a lot too.

That's how I feel. At first, I was offended by his lack of hockey knowledge, and I missed the old crew. But he is enthusiastic, and those gaffs are so oddly boneheaded they are kind of endearing. And I have a feeling they will keep on coming.

Yeah, he wanted to focus on the "judgment" aspect of the referee, rather than the crease violation.

That's so contrived. Puffing about your own lofty standards for what other people do or should do, when what you seek is vicarious pleasure and pride through the accomplishment of others. Given the way you express yourself, I will guess that the standards you set for your own life and work are not quite so lofty. It's a game. We love that game, just as we do our alma mater, but it's a friggin game.

He said that? Better save that one for Bemidji

Good topic, especially after we were blessed with the traditional circle of sticks last night. Hammer so goofy, I'm starting to like the guy. Not Dewey Berquist, but a little of that off-the-wall oddness. When this thread is complete, somebody does need to make a T-shirt.
  21. You're right, Hammer has done fairly well on the play-by-play, even cut back on the "one-timers." And the funny, idiotic things he says could make the guy a bit of a cult figure if he can last.
  22. Tambellini shows a couple of Toewsesque moves tonight, getting through several D to the net. They haven't had a guy with good hands and a big reach for a while.
  23. He's so odd it has to be on purpose. Circle of sticks??
  24. rodwell really hustling
  25. That's classic!!
