I for one figured our team would have an easier time in Mankato this year. Should have known better. We've historically struggled most years in their building, and again this night I guess. Good reality check I guess, if you have to look for a silver lining.

I've stayed at the Hawthorn and they are very nice. Especially if you like to use the kitchen, etc. One thing, the poolside rooms can be noisy, and hot if they are next to the sauna. Still very easy to walk from there to the DECC.

I can only imagine one small benefit to being ranked highly at this point in time. Usually I hate being ranked #1. Hakstol's first year as the Head Coach. He's already landed some good recruits. First series and he sweeps a tough team in a tough barn. Team is ranked #1. It likely isn't a major deal, but to any new recruit it's gotta look a lot better than if we had been swept and were ranked 8th or 9th. The early signing period is coming in a month or so?

It's so early you hate to get too excited but one can't help but be optimistic about how the season can go going on the road to a tough place to play and sweeping a team that hasn't been swept at home in 19 years. Nice job Fighting Sioux! What a great way to start out. Now, if we can just keep that #1 ranking off our back! Congratulations to Coach Hakstol on a great start to his first season as the HC.

All people did was whine about Parise being mugged last year. It's a problem fast skilled teams have complained about for years. Regardless of our point of view, there's no dispute that our own players were at times guilty of doing the same thing in times of necessity. Now the league wants to clean up that part of the game. Good for them! But we can't expect it to be an easy process to change years of how the game has been played and officiated. We have to put up with some crappy looking games until everyone adjusts. I give credit to Coach Hakstol who complimented the calls the refs made for the most part. I didn't see the game but I think this is what we have to expect for a while. Let's just give this process a few months to see how it works out before we start calling for more changes.

The past is the past. Canady had a better year in the "bad penalty" category last year than in his previous years. This year I personally expect he'll be that much more mature. He's a better skater and more physical than Fabian, from what I can tell when I've seen them play. Fabian is a great story, super nice guy, very hard worker and I don't mind seeing him on the ice. I just think Canady is a better hockey player. I'd give Brian the chance to contribute and if he can't, then go to Fabian.
