  1. I had forgotten they'd worn that jersey as a throwback. I was wondering where one could get one, you lucky dog! Good for you, Jfr!
  2. I'm going to bet that there will be another body coming next fall that we're not aware of. With 14 forwards and 8 defensemen (counting Genoway as a defenseman), a lot rides on Bina's health. The key might be Alexander. If Alexander can be a player, maybe the coaches are willing to live with what Bina can give them. That would mean 8 D optimally, and at least 7 if Bina can't go. If Alexander is a practice body, then suddenly depth at D is scary. I'm going to count Genoway at D because it seems accepted logic that it's harder to learn defense, so they will keep him working at D. (This assumes he was recruited to play D, which I admit I don't know) 14 forwards is livable but not preferred for starting the season. You can't tell what will happen during the season. Lucia started running out of forwards last year, for instance. So with Zajac and VandeVelde, the Sioux only have 14, and in my above scenario I count Genoway at D. Either Forney or Trupp is going to come next year, or else we find another late addition ala Prpich. I don't care much for the late addition scenario, because there won't be too many seasoned players available of the quality for UND. Prpich found a niche on this team, but I doubt there's too many impact recruits who will be sitting by the phone in the next few weeks. That being the case, and since Forney is projected to go high in the draft (and likely not to be here for 4 years) I think maybe you wring everything you can out of him before he moves on to the pros, ankly and shoulder permitting. Then you move on to goaltending. This is a whole soap opera in itself. What's Parise going to do? #1Hakfan and Triouxper have already called this one, so I'm going to make the assumption that Parise leaves in my scenario. So now the coaches have to locate another goalie for next year. Lammy is a good goalie, so he's my #1. Walski is my #3. I'm not that familiar with what the list of top goalie recruit prospects looks like. Is there a top caliber recruit available at this point in time? It would seem like no, since they are usually snapped up fairly quickly. Does that mean the Sioux have to land another body to fill a hole during practice until next year when they can land another top recruit while hoping Lammy can not only carry the load but stay healthy? The Sioux wanted Cheverie last year and lost to Denver. After which Cheverie's numbers dropped quite a bit in the BCHL, so maybe that's ok. The Sioux were linked to Thiessen, and that appeared to be a strong bet the way the smoke was flying on the internet (where there's smoke there's fire.....). And the Sioux were apparently finalists for Kangas but lost to MN. Just before the Kangas commitment Thiessen committed out east. So this begs the question: Were the coaches confident they would land Kangas and therefore let Thiessen slip out east? Were the coaches confident Parise would be around next year so they allowed Thiessen to go and take their chances with Kangas (knowing that if they lost Kangas they'd have this coming year to find another Sioux caliber goalie recruit)? #1Hakfan recently hinted at a goalie recruit commitment in the next couple of weeks. Was that a hint? Or just a rhetorical question? I guess we'll see... So, in my scenario, next year's roster questions hang on Parise, Bina, Alexander and Forney in their respective ways.
  3. Do you have a source with some info, otherwise how do you know what Marvin prefers to do?
  4. I guess Pomeroy needs to hear from Jim Dahl, then. JD turned me around on this issue.
  5. I contacted my rep and senators too. In fact, I contact Hastert and told him that I'd told my House Rep to get on board, and that when they met in the hall, remind him of that! Then I told me Senators to make sure their support was made known to the House as well as grease the skids in the Senate. Anyway, Hastert accepts communication from outside his district, he just won't respond to anyone outside his district. I think most of them are that way.
  6. Sparky, we hardly knew ye! Good luck in whatever you do next year. Sure wish it was going to be playing hockey here at UND.
  7. Well, that's also a good perspective. I was thinking that how the NCAA treated its membership was between the NCAA and the membership. If I'm having a dispute with my neighbor, I can go to court to try and sort it out so in that respect it felt more appropriate for this to be settled in that manner than with legislation.
  8. I won't believe it until I see a link.
  9. Those are all excellent points PCM. In some sense it seems like this is necessary, even though I think government has other stuff to do more relevant to its role.
  10. Haven't we already had listed for us several examples of guys who stuck around an extra year after getting a big offer? Hale and Greene come to mind, I'll bet there are others. It's not like it never happens. UND gets the services of these highly talented players while at the same time helping them develop the skills to make a living playing pro hockey. I think there's a pretty fair trade already taking place.
  11. Think through this a bit. In your case you have a player telling you they're going to stay. Yet, in bargaining with their respective team, if they are smart that's exactly the public attitude they are going to take until the team coughs up the proper amount of $$. They have a motive to tell you that... Rather than complain about them all, maybe you should take some time and find out which posters seem to be accurate with their posts and which ones don't, and then decide on whether you should discount them out of hand. Again, I'm not saying you have to believe any of them. But some posters have a very strong record of being accurate where some don't have a record at all.
  12. I see Michael Forney was selected 53rd overall by Indiana Ice of the USHL today in their draft.....Is he not coming to UND in the fall of 06??? I was talking to a hockey parent from Thief River Falls last night and he was concerned about Forney coming to UND this year. He felt that Forney is not ready for that level of play and needs to go to the USHL for a year to mainly toughen up. In his opinion Forney is hurt often and also plays soft. He felt going to the USHL would make him step up the physical part of his game if he doesn't get hurt again. Not knowing much about Forney except that he was a finalist for Mr. Hockey in Minnesota but also knowing he had a shoulder injury at State and also hurt his ankle/leg since then, I'm not sure how to take this. Any thoughts on this? Naturally I always love to see a kid play a year of juniors after high school in order to assist in the transition. After Oshie I trust the coaches will make the correct decision. I would guess that the decision hangs on 1. how many forwards do we lose early this year and 2. is Forney physically healed and ready to play D1 hockey. If Forney isn't going to be a 4 year guy anyway, we might as well wring out anything we can get from him. 3 years at UND is probably better than 1 year of juniors and 2 years at UND.
  13. TMK, whether or not you are correct thanks for posting.
  14. There are a few posters who have a history of credibility. I'm not saying you have to believe anyone, but some posters have passed the link test already.
  15. I'll take what we can get at this point, but it doesn't seem like this is the sort of thing that the government should be involved with solving.
  16. I also thought that number sounded small.
  17. So long, Drew, we hardly knew ye. Good luck in the show. Do the Fighting Sioux proud! Triouxper has been awfully accurate about a lot of stuff, going back to how good Oshie was in the WJC trials last summer. I suspect he knows what he's talking about with Sparky and Jpar. Certainly I've heard enough to believe the Sparky thing, and I'm just going to go with Triouxper on Jpar because of his record and I think #1Hakfan also said the same. We can keep talking about all of our talent but we'd better be bringing some in with this freshmen class too. Losing Stafford, Zajac, Smaby, Spirko, Jpar, and potentially Toews/Oshie and god forbid even Lee this could be an unprecedented and potentially never matched early loss of talent from one team. I'll believe Oshie and Toews are still around next fall when the games start, because at this point it seems like it's going to be that kind of year where the house just gets cleaned. Toews can talk all he wants about what he needs to do but the kid hasn't even been drafted yet. Who knows how that changes things. The Sioux still have a fair amount of talent, but the ability to seperate themselves from the pack is no longer there. Once again the ranks of the upperclass forwards are decimated. No, not wiped out because that would be disrespectful to Porter, Fabian and Kaip, wno are important players in their own right. But I think regardless of talent, a team needs to field more than just freshmen and sophomore offensive leaders if they are going to win in the end.
  18. Wow, we'd be right in tune with the NCAA's TR award!
  19. You want to give the NCAA the middle finger? Think again about Rough Riders (i.e. cavalry).
  20. The Fighting Peace Gardens!
  21. I had seen that he was injured, but hadn't found info on what it was. That's a nasty one. What's up with our program? Potentially unprecedented departures, Trupp and Forney with nasty injuries. Sheesh. Good luck to Evan in recovering from this. Hopefully this won't be a lingering problem.
  22. Yes, thank you all, everyone who is responsible for running this site, for the great experiences us casual fans get to have because of this site. Not only do we have an opportunity to glean information about our team from time to time, it allows us to stay a little closer to the fan experience. But maybe most importantly are the friendships or acquaintenceships(?) that some have developed because of this site. Thank you.
  23. Again, I cannot understand why the membership allows this.
  24. Hmmm....when underclass hockey players say that it means in about a week we'll hear they've signed their pro contract.

    NHL draft news

In watching the highlights that Siouxdonym posted on the other thread I was struck by Toews goal in the BC game. Due to circumstances beyond my control it was the first time I was able to see that goal. That was a big time play by an exceptional player. Yikes, he's come a long way from beginning to end of year. It also scares me about whether we'll see him again next year, because in watching that goal, I think I may have heard the bell toll on his college career.
