  1. I'm waging a last second write-in campaign.
  2. If gopher fans can still get mileage over winning the opening game in the Ralph, I think Sioux fans will get mileage out of the HC/MN debacle for an awfully long time.
  3. What's funny is the release is on the Wellington Dukes web site dated 6/6 which is a couple of days before it hit here. Funny that someone didn't stumble over that one even by accident. Seems around here it's pretty hard to keep anything that shows up on the net a secret for very long before someone trips over it while surfing.
  4. Orygunsue may have a arguable point, that being that the name is too much trouble than it is worth and there may soon be a time to change it. That said, I don't want to change it. AND... This fight NEEDS to be fought regardless. Kupchella's point really doesn't seem to be that UND is right to be using the name so much as the NCAA is out of line in making this policy, and that they have inappropriately labeled UND as being hostile and abusive. The NCAA should not have a dog in this fight. UND isn't harming anyone, and this is a local matter and should be solved that way. IMO, that's what's got Kupchella's hair up more than love for the Fighting Sioux nickname. I will repeat that I don't ever want to change the name, but there may be a time when it is wise to do so. However, if that time ever comes it must be because the decision is made on a local level that it's the right time to do so, not because someone with no knowledge of the situation bullies UND into doing it.
  5. Right on the money, Sprig! Let's get those jitters out of the way early.
  6. I have no problem with that if it keeps him around another year!
  7. You might be the first person to take ANY of my posts seriously. I just read the President's letter. I'm in awe. I'm thinking that the legal minds think they have such an incredible case this letter is a shot across the bow to the NCAA in the hope that they will quietly remove UND from the hated list and both parties can avoid the cost and expense of going to court. Either that OR, and here's my concern, UND doesn't feel they want to pursue this in court, and this is a bluff hoping that the NCAA will back down now. If not, UND in a few months will quietly make the decision to transform the name because they've decided it's not an appropriate investment of time or money to fight this in court. Hopefully the former.
  8. Grieco played about 2/3rds of the regular season. He seemed a bit up and down. Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League 1. He won't be 18 until November. 2. Chosen as one of 6 goalies to participate in the League All-Star game. 3. It's often said that your best penalty killer is your goalie. Wellington's penalty kill was 4th best in the league at 88%. (It's a HUGE league with 37 teams). 4. Though he probably played 2/3rds of the regular season, he played every game of the playoffs. 5. He had 5 shutouts and tied with 2 other players for 2nd in the league in that category. The leader had 6. The 3rd place finishers had 3. 6. He was 15th in his league in svs % at .906. There were only 2-3 other similarly young players ahead of him in this category. 7. He was 7th in the league in GAA at 2.28. 8. He was voted his team's playoff MVP. If I were Hak I might make sure this guy gets in the very first exhibition game.
  9. Grieco appears to have played in about 2/3rds of the regular season games, and seemed a bit streaky. It's telling, however, that he played every single playoff game. Note that he's only 17.
  10. Indianapolis, Indiana The NCAA today announced an unprecedented decision in college sports, when they banned a college president. "The President of the University of North Dakota made us feel bad in comments he made about the NCAA in a letter yesterday" said an unnamed NCAA spokesman. In a letter to the NCAA, President Kupchella likened the NCAA's position on Native American mascots as "about as solid as room-temperature Jell-O" and called the NCAA "self-righteous". The NCAA's ruling said that President Kupchella will be banned from being a college president at an NCAA affiliated college or university, attending an NCAA sporting event, or "talking about the NCAA in any way shape or form that causes any one of our employees to feel less than happy." President Kupchella could not be reached for comment.
  11. That's some very clear and direct rhetoric. I would imagine this is not shooting from the hip, either. He knows what he is doing. We've not seen him talk this way, I wonder if in the past he was doing his best not to piss off the NCAA, and now he's got nothing to lose because there's no option left but litigation.

    Nick Fuher

I just hope things are going well for Nick.
  13. I was watching the game but missed that near the end. I did see Greene paste someone to the boards behind the net, and he was working someone else over shortly thereafter, but I didn't notice Commie in the area.
  14. It's pretty easy to see why Dallas won in 1999.
  15. I should probably read the available materials again before opening my yap but discretion has not always been close at my hand... I believe there is a difference between throwing a party FOR something/someone and using it/them as an excuse to throw a themed party. When I was much younger (but out of college, so old enough to know better) I used to joke about being the anti-christ. It had to do with silly coincidences/circumstances that had to do with me personally. I thought it was a funny joke but not everybody did (geez, I wonder why). I mean, I'm a Christian even. Now that I'm older I look back and wish I had not done that. I only bring this up because people can do tasteless things and at some point in the future come to the realization that maybe their behavior choices weren't the best. It didn't make me a devil worshipper. It certainly showed that I was immature, lacking in common sense and insensitive. I hate to even admit this in a public forum, but it seems like the point needs to be made.
  16. That is a good story on Hrkac. It does get me to feeling a bit old, though. I graduated from UND in 1987, and Tony was fairly young then when he went pro early. It's a bit startling realizing that I've been out of school for the whole career of someone like Hrkac. 19 years is a pretty good pro career. Is there anyone from that 1987 team still playing?

    Agraria

I've made 2 rhubarb pies already this spring. Straight up, too. No strawberries. That's like cream in your coffee.
  18. I have a copy of Mein Kampf at home that I plan to read. Guilty as associated.....
  19. I highlighted the part I liked best
  20. Isn't there still a dime bounty on each gopher tail one turns in?
  21. Holy Smokes. Imagine if he actually TRIED.
  22. I agree that this Sioux team will probably not score like the past couple but I think there's enough ability for the team to be effective. Kozek has the potential to surprise you this coming year.
  23. Maybe Commie and Greene can get in a fight for the ages. Green blood spilled all around.
  24. You probably know more hockey than I, so take this for what it is worth. Both Toews and Oshie can play center, correct? I remember a few years ago when the Sioux had few quality centermen and the whole team struggled. Splitting up these two might be a way to generate a couple of very good scoring lines. As far as I'm concerned it would be hard to qualify one as being better than the other only by way of line #. Heck, there are times the checking line starts a home game. Does that mean they are the best? It does all come down to how kids perform next Sept and early October. Forney may or may not show he's ready to play on a top scoring line in reality.
