I contacted my rep and senators too. In fact, I contact Hastert and told him that I'd told my House Rep to get on board, and that when they met in the hall, remind him of that! Then I told me Senators to make sure their support was made known to the House as well as grease the skids in the Senate. Anyway, Hastert accepts communication from outside his district, he just won't respond to anyone outside his district. I think most of them are that way.

Sparky, we hardly knew ye! Good luck in whatever you do next year. Sure wish it was going to be playing hockey here at UND.

Well, that's also a good perspective. I was thinking that how the NCAA treated its membership was between the NCAA and the membership. If I'm having a dispute with my neighbor, I can go to court to try and sort it out so in that respect it felt more appropriate for this to be settled in that manner than with legislation.

I won't believe it until I see a link.

Those are all excellent points PCM. In some sense it seems like this is necessary, even though I think government has other stuff to do more relevant to its role.

Haven't we already had listed for us several examples of guys who stuck around an extra year after getting a big offer? Hale and Greene come to mind, I'll bet there are others. It's not like it never happens. UND gets the services of these highly talented players while at the same time helping them develop the skills to make a living playing pro hockey. I think there's a pretty fair trade already taking place.

Think through this a bit. In your case you have a player telling you they're going to stay. Yet, in bargaining with their respective team, if they are smart that's exactly the public attitude they are going to take until the team coughs up the proper amount of $$. They have a motive to tell you that... Rather than complain about them all, maybe you should take some time and find out which posters seem to be accurate with their posts and which ones don't, and then decide on whether you should discount them out of hand. Again, I'm not saying you have to believe any of them. But some posters have a very strong record of being accurate where some don't have a record at all.

I see Michael Forney was selected 53rd overall by Indiana Ice of the USHL today in their draft.....Is he not coming to UND in the fall of 06??? I was talking to a hockey parent from Thief River Falls last night and he was concerned about Forney coming to UND this year. He felt that Forney is not ready for that level of play and needs to go to the USHL for a year to mainly toughen up. In his opinion Forney is hurt often and also plays soft. He felt going to the USHL would make him step up the physical part of his game if he doesn't get hurt again. Not knowing much about Forney except that he was a finalist for Mr. Hockey in Minnesota but also knowing he had a shoulder injury at State and also hurt his ankle/leg since then, I'm not sure how to take this. Any thoughts on this? Naturally I always love to see a kid play a year of juniors after high school in order to assist in the transition. After Oshie I trust the coaches will make the correct decision. I would guess that the decision hangs on 1. how many forwards do we lose early this year and 2. is Forney physically healed and ready to play D1 hockey. If Forney isn't going to be a 4 year guy anyway, we might as well wring out anything we can get from him. 3 years at UND is probably better than 1 year of juniors and 2 years at UND.

TMK, whether or not you are correct thanks for posting.

There are a few posters who have a history of credibility. I'm not saying you have to believe anyone, but some posters have passed the link test already.

I'll take what we can get at this point, but it doesn't seem like this is the sort of thing that the government should be involved with solving.

I also thought that number sounded small.

So long, Drew, we hardly knew ye. Good luck in the show. Do the Fighting Sioux proud! Triouxper has been awfully accurate about a lot of stuff, going back to how good Oshie was in the WJC trials last summer. I suspect he knows what he's talking about with Sparky and Jpar. Certainly I've heard enough to believe the Sparky thing, and I'm just going to go with Triouxper on Jpar because of his record and I think #1Hakfan also said the same. We can keep talking about all of our talent but we'd better be bringing some in with this freshmen class too. Losing Stafford, Zajac, Smaby, Spirko, Jpar, and potentially Toews/Oshie and god forbid even Lee this could be an unprecedented and potentially never matched early loss of talent from one team. I'll believe Oshie and Toews are still around next fall when the games start, because at this point it seems like it's going to be that kind of year where the house just gets cleaned. Toews can talk all he wants about what he needs to do but the kid hasn't even been drafted yet. Who knows how that changes things. The Sioux still have a fair amount of talent, but the ability to seperate themselves from the pack is no longer there. Once again the ranks of the upperclass forwards are decimated. No, not wiped out because that would be disrespectful to Porter, Fabian and Kaip, wno are important players in their own right. But I think regardless of talent, a team needs to field more than just freshmen and sophomore offensive leaders if they are going to win in the end.

Wow, we'd be right in tune with the NCAA's TR award!

You want to give the NCAA the middle finger? Think again about Rough Riders (i.e. cavalry).

The Fighting Peace Gardens!

I had seen that he was injured, but hadn't found info on what it was. That's a nasty one. What's up with our program? Potentially unprecedented departures, Trupp and Forney with nasty injuries. Sheesh. Good luck to Evan in recovering from this. Hopefully this won't be a lingering problem.

Yes, thank you all, everyone who is responsible for running this site, for the great experiences us casual fans get to have because of this site. Not only do we have an opportunity to glean information about our team from time to time, it allows us to stay a little closer to the fan experience. But maybe most importantly are the friendships or acquaintenceships(?) that some have developed because of this site. Thank you.

Again, I cannot understand why the membership allows this.

Hmmm....when underclass hockey players say that it means in about a week we'll hear they've signed their pro contract.

In watching the highlights that Siouxdonym posted on the other thread I was struck by Toews goal in the BC game. Due to circumstances beyond my control it was the first time I was able to see that goal. That was a big time play by an exceptional player. Yikes, he's come a long way from beginning to end of year. It also scares me about whether we'll see him again next year, because in watching that goal, I think I may have heard the bell toll on his college career.

I really had hoped the DII Council of Presidents might stand up to these shenanigans. They have allowed themselves to be vulnerable to whatever arbitrary and capriciuos decision the Executive Council deems proper, regardless of whether it is within the by-laws of their organization to do this. It's astounding to me that bright people who run these educational institutions cannot see that far ahead.

Thanks, Jim. I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet.

Once again, we'll outshine MN. Unfortunately.

Wow. The arrogance of this statement is shocking.
