  1. I understand the point you are making. Your original comment was so general that I think we could come up with offensive nicknames if we tried. However, as for nicknames currently in use, I would agree with your point.
  2. Or Porter. There's some speed in them thar wheels.
  3. I don't know that I would go as far as you.
  4. It's disheartening that though Jacobs basically agrees with UND's position but thinks that the smart thing to do is to bend over and take it. If contact the Jacobs and tell him the name of his paper offends me will he change it just to avoid any potentially negative publicity? I highly doubt it. Nor should he. IMO his perspective on the right way to handle this situation is all wrong.
  5. In the pieces of the other games I saw in this series Edmonton didn't even seem to be in the same league. What I saw in the 3rd period tonite it looked like they switched uni's. Edmonton could do no wrong. Carolina looked to have this series well in hand and the way things look right now it's hard to be against Edmonton. But I guess the next game will be a new night and anything can happen, so I should stay away from predictions. I've been SO good at them in the past.
  6. I think Brand's steely dan is not seeing any sunshine
  7. I don't believe the loss of the nickname would or should affect the status of the AI programs at UND. I agree, any name change must only be done on UND's terms, not on a ridiculous edict out of Indianapolis.
  8. Please keep O'Reilly off our side.
  9. Did you just wake up here, Rip?
  10. Maybe this is why we heard about another forward coming in this fall: Toews
  11. Oh boy........ Maybe Blais was right.
  12. I don't know. 7 goals in 19 games as a freshman? That translates to 14 goals in 38 games (a fairly reasonable # of games for UND). I'd take that as a freshman. It's possible he wouldn't get all the PP time though, so maybe those numbers would suffer at UND. Still, it's hard to expect too much. It usually takes 2 to have a personality conflict that ends up with a guy missing most of the end of the season. I trust the coaches aren't going to be picking up someone else's dirty laundry without a fair degree of confidence that it's a good idea. So I will hope for the best.
  13. Maybe there's a 3rd option. Maybe this was a smart, calculated move by the Kupchella and Company. Assuming this letter might get wide play around the country, the idea might be that the groundswell of public opinion puts the NCAA into a position where they feel they have to cave. Just grasping, here.
  14. I agree with you here. I'm pretty happy with the news. As jk pointed out, the guy has excellent speed, and apparently a heck of a work ethic. He'll probably be here all 4 years, so DAR will be happy. Sounds like he has upside, even if we don't see it right away. There's room for that in a successful program (see Denver a couple of years ago). I'll take him.
  15. 100.3 KTLK in Mpls/St. Paul has an afternoon talk show "Lambert & Janucek". Lambert has a liberal bent, and Januszak a strong conservative bent. I was surprised on the drive home that they called up Kupchella after hearing about the letter he wrote. They had about a 10-15 minute interview with him regarding the situation. It was clear they weren't terribly familiar with the whole controversy, but they both thought the NCAA's position was preposterous, both strongly supported UND's position, and both told Kupchella to sue and stick it to the NCAA. I was impressed with how Kupchella came across, having never heard him speak publicly before.
  16. Love this one.
  17. I'm diggin' the chat with Troy Mick on the Sioux Hockey Blog. To me, this kid sounds a lot like Chris Porter. Very fast, decent size, super hard worker, some ability to score.
  18. It was great to see it happen in Mariucci West.
  19. He scored a GWG against MN. Sign him up!
  20. Not to accurate on some of the details, but I appreciate the point.
  21. Maybe we're getting Walsky, who wanted to transfer from AA to MN but AA wouldn't release him to MN (likely because of Hill). Lucia said AA would release him to just about anywhere else, but not MN. Just a guess. He wouldn't really count as a "recruit" I suppose. I noticed Suze's "Alaska" and am reading a lot into her use of quotation marks. It could easily be a normal recruiting situation. Will be interesting to see, as she seems confident in her information.
  22. Trupp is from there. Do you mean that it might be someone besides Trupp?
  23. Here's what the Vernon coach/GM said about Bishop last summer when signing him. It would be interesting to know if he'd still make the comparison or not: It's worth noting that as a 17 year old Bishop played for Cedar Rapids in the USHL and had less than 10 points total for the whole season.
  24. I haven't watched too many regular season NHL games but I really enjoyed the Wild run a few years ago and what I've seen so far of the Edmonton/Hurricanes series has been excellent hockey.
