  1. Thanks for the link. Prpich with the Gordie Howe hat trick in game 7. (goal, assist, roughing penalty) That's cool. http://pointstreak.com/prostats/boxscore.html?gameid=474562
  2. Da## right. Thank you for saying it.
  3. Or wear a helmet.
  4. The events of those days are still vivid, but it all happened so fast its just a blur. I lived in the Twin Cities, but have a lot of family and friends in town. We got into town just after midnight on the 19th, and I will never forget the horror of driving across the Kennedy Bridge, seeing the water rushing down and knowing the Sherwood Park and Riverside bowls would inevitably fill. After that, 96 hours without sleep, the column of smoke from downtown, endless helicopters and sirens, a battle eventually lost, a canoe ride out, going home having failed but determined to help and recruiting volunteers for the cleanup, the once-a-weekend round trip up, fatigue after the adrenalin ran out. What I'll remember most are the people, especially during cleanup, who were going through so much but so grateful. (I'd spend a weekend trudging through sewage in their basements, but I got to go home to my undamaged home on Monday morning.) Even today, I'll get bear hugs and thank yous. It is indeed humbling to be remembered, 10 years later, http://www.grandforksherald.com/articles/i...rilyn%20Hagerty I learned that if you do your very best and still fail, there's never any regrets to live with. I learned that timing is everything. I learned that a Saturn will float. I learned that underneath the calm, stoic exteriors, people here really do care about each other. I learned not to open a freezer after the power's been off a month. I learned that 20,000 sandbags aren't that heavy if you have friends. Having season tickets in the new Ralph, I get back a lot, and the recovery has been remarkable. "Is this heaven? Almost. Its Grand Forks."
  5. As a hockey geek, I also get excited seeing Ryan Miller make TWO melon saves tonight. Isles look to have decent jump.
  6. (Versus broadcast) Christie Brinkley in an Islanders jersey.
  7. Tim Duncan is totally full of __it. All he's doing is working the refs early (for the playoffs). Crawford has been reffing forever, and Duncan knows exactly where the line is...
  8. Oh. Got it. I just hope we're not playing for more than a penny a point.
  9. OK, I'm just coming back after leaving the thread for a while. We're setting up a smear league as a way of convincing Johnny! to stay. Right?
  10. I think we should add lacrosse, if only as another sport we can beat NDSU at. http://www.umll.org/game-uslmdia.cfm?gamei...3&uslmdia=1
  11. If Toews were to leave, and I hope he stays, I think Genoway would be good on the line with Oshie and Duncan. He's got the wheels to keep up, and to cover when guys get caught behind the puck. Plus it would be a great line acronym: Genoway Oshie Duncan.
  12. If Notre Dame ever put their collective minds to it, they could be an elite power in college hockey, think Top 5 regularly. Jeff Jackson might just be the catalyst for getting big-time alumni support ... I expect that over the next decade, Notre Dame moves to elite status.
  13. THIS is what makes fan appreciation night so terrific: http://www.grandforksherald.com/gfx/photos...l/413fanday.jpg
  14. http://www.grandforksherald.com/ap/index.c...mp;id=D8OG08GG0 The school's last Hobey Baker winner, Tony Hrkac in 1987, called Duncan to offer congratulations. "I didn't recognize the phone number, but picked it up anyway and it was Tony Hrkac," Duncan said. "He didn't have to do that."
  15. I'm set. I got time and caffeine. I miss watching Dave Tippett play for the Sioux. He can't be old enough to be a head coach in the NHL...
  16. Versus 8pm central - Dallas vs Vancouver. Expect it to be done by 3am.
  17. For most of the years I've been a fan, the Sioux have played according to this philosophy: [excerpted from the above] "There's never a game that doesn't count," McMahon said. "We're coached that way. Every game counts. Every shift counts. ..." Under Hakstol, I think that ethic has gotten even stronger.
  18. Zach - Leading the NHL Playoffs in goal scoring. Not surprised here.
  19. This one might go 10 games, especially if the goalies get hot. Considering they've played two-plus games already, and Game 2 isn't until tonight, its one of those series that the winner may end up being too beat-up to go much further... a shame since both have the potential for a big run.
  20. That's more than a couple. Thanks for posting. I did some quick math and I figure we travelled about 5500 auto miles to see Sioux hockey games this year. It was worth every mile.
  21. Ah the good old days. That live chicken was absolutely critical to the outcome of that game vs. Minnesota. It helped us kill off an extended Minnesota powerplay, getting Taylor and Smail some rest. Not to mention the Gophers were all crackin up on their bench until getting slapped upside the head by their coaches. It was a BRILLIANT! strategy. Not to mention funny as heck. I've had Gopher fans ask me about it 10 and 15 years later. I have one bird story from the Farce days, 1979 vintage: My roommate smuggled a Canadian goose in his parka. Security patted down his front pockets but failed to pat his back. When the Sioux scored 3 minutes in, he said he was saving it for goal #10. Each of the first 9 goals, we urged him to toss it. And finally he hurled on the 10th Sioux goal of the night, whereupon its wings extended as it gently glided onto the ice, coming to rest a couple feet in front of the beleaguered CC goalie. Final score UND 10, CC 0.
  22. I feel better, knowing there's other lunatics staying up glued to the TV. Dallas does look good - including that one-timer by Barnes that almost ended it.
  23. Well that didn't take long ... game 1 - Dallas and Vancouver locked in a double ot battle 4-4. I'm gonna pay tomorrow for staying up late to watch this one on Versus.
