  1. That is correct. All Frozen Four coaches along with conference coach of the year winners are finalists.
  2. I've gotten to see BC in person three times this year. They are certainly a solid club, but by no means unbeatable. If I was the Sioux coaching staff, I would try to get tape of their Beanpot game against Harvard. The Crimson did a great job bottling the Eagles up and still generating scoring chances. Gerbe is a small speedy threat in the Duncan mold, containing him will be a key. At the Hockey East finals, BC was the only team playing with much passion or intensity, so I wasn't at all surprised by the early exits of BU and UNH. I think despite getting five teams in the tourney, Hockey East was very top heavy this year. UMass really only got in because they were able to win 4 in a row over a Bishop-less Maine team. The bottom of the league couldn't hold a candle to the lower half of the WCHA. This was borne out in the respective conference tourneys. WCHA 6 and 7 both won, while 9 and 10 were able to take 1 and 2 to three games. In Hockey East, 1 and 2 blew out 7 and 8. That is ultimately what knocked Denver and CC out of the tourney.
  3. While ECAC teams may have difficultly making the Frozen Four, I don't think that applies to their officials.
  4. After doing a little research on hockeydb.com, I'd say the NCAA record belongs to Don McSween of Michigan State, at 180 games from 1983-84 to 1986-87. Coincidentally, his streak ended in the NCAA Championship game when the Spartans fell to the Hrkac Circus. With the decrease in games, it will require four trips to the frozen four and playing for a western team to match or break the record.
  5. Nope, I'm in Boston and I can't see it. They must be able to show it as it would violate there rights agreement.
  6. I saw UMass last week against New Hampshire at the Hockey East Finals. It was a horrible game to watch. There was more hitting in the mini-mites games between periods of the Bruins game the previous night. The only team that impressed me in the least was BC, and I'm not sure how much that was just the quality of the competition. BU will go down, they just aren't very good. I was really hoping UND would end up with them. Just not a lot of heart.
  7. Maybe you can all overrun Horace. They have Midco. It would be like the new Zip to Zap.
  8. Sioux can't seem to make a shot. Lots of shots missed from close in. Can't be bricking layups and six footers.
  9. All four quarterfinals will be available at www.ncaasports.com/DII powered by CSTV. The quality of these is very good, and if you watched the Denver/UND games on their free webcast you can use that same login.
  10. Keep an eye on CN8. They are carrying many games, and webcast all programming, but they might blackout some games. www.cn8.com They have several different coverage zones, so pick the New England one, as they will be carrying the most games.
  11. I commented on USCHO that this proposed bracket is the best I've seen. It adheres to a perfect bracket for the high seed (1-8) and only requires two switches among the lower seeds. It spreads out all four CCHA teams and all three WCHA teams, while putting at least one Hockey East team in each bracket as well. It also should fare well attendance wise. Grand Rapids 1 Minnesota (WC) 8 Michigan (CC) 11 Mass-Amherst (HE) 16 Alabama-Huntsville (CH) Denver 2 Notre Dame (CC) 7 Boston Univ (HE) 10 North Dakota (WC) 15 Air Force (AH) Rochester 3 Clarkson (EC) 6 St Cloud (WC) 9 Mich State (CC) 13 Maine (HE) Manchester 4 New Hampshire (HE) 5 Boston Coll (HE) 12 St Lawrence (EC) 14 Miami (CC)
  12. Heading into the league championship games, most of the results are now down to seeding, with Quinnipiac the only party crasher still alive. I am pulling for New Hampshire, Clarkson and Notre Dame along with the Sioux. If Dartmouth holds on in the ECAC Consolation game and those teams win, the tourney field would set up like this. I think a pretty favorable draw for UND. I think this would hold up for attendance purposes but ideally, I'd switch the Michigan/BU and St. Cloud/Maine games to avoid second round conference matchups. Grand Rapids 1 Notre Dame 4 Alabama Huntsville 2 Michigan 3 Boston University Manchester 1 New Hampshire 4 Dartmouth 2 North Dakota 3 Miami Rochester 1 Clarkson 4 UMass 2 Boston College 3 Michigan St. Denver 1 Minnesota 4 Army/Air Force 2 St. Cloud St. 3 Maine
  13. Michigan St. now up 6-4 with 3 to go. that might be the death knell for Denver.
  14. What's your deal? I thought the article was interesting and I commented that I hadn't heard the name Akil Adams in a long time. I didn't comment on his coaching ability as I know nothing about it. Lighten up, Francis!
  15. I'm not sure that St. Louis would be interested in the Mid-Con tourney. They already have the Missouri Valley tourney and it's unlikely that the Scott Trade Center would take on a second tournament. Plus, for the most part, St. Louis is already starting to think about baseball at that time of the year. Kansas City is a better bet, although it will have the Big 12 on some occasions, that area doesn't yet have a primary tenant and you have UMKC already there. And that's a far more hoops mad town.
  16. The Sioux men are 3 for 3 in the relays so far, having set new national records in each. That's the sign of a great team!
  17. I think that assuming people don't like college basketball or Sioux basketball because they won't forfeit the future success of hockey is incorrect. I'd wonder how people would respond on a Winona message board if the question was posed similarly, but giving up football success for continued basketball titles.
  18. Interesting. First I've heard of Akil Adams in a long time. I wonder if a Stafford hiring might change the minds of the Lamoureauxs.
  19. Not true. Here is a scenario that actually puts 5 teams in the tournament. Put in .003 for the RPI bonus. User-Specified Results You have specified the following tournament results: Atlantic Hockey Semifinal #2: Army defeats Connecticut. Atlantic Hockey Semifinal #1: Air Force defeats Sacred Heart. Atlantic Hockey Championship game: Air Force defeats Army. CCHA Semifinal #2: Michigan defeats Michigan State. CCHA Semifinal #1: Notre Dame defeats Lake Superior. CCHA Championship game: Notre Dame defeats Michigan. CCHA Consolation game: Lake Superior defeats Michigan State. ECAC Semifinal #2: Clarkson defeats Dartmouth. ECAC Semifinal #1: Quinnipiac defeats St. Lawrence. ECAC Championship game: Clarkson defeats Quinnipiac. ECAC Consolation game: Dartmouth defeats St. Lawrence. Hockey East Semifinal #2: Boston College defeats Boston University. Hockey East Semifinal #1: New Hampshire defeats Massachusetts. Hockey East Championship game: New Hampshire defeats Boston College. WCHA Play-in #1: Michigan Tech defeats Wisconsin. WCHA Semifinal #2: North Dakota defeats St. Cloud State. WCHA Semifinal #1: Michigan Tech defeats Minnesota. WCHA Championship game: North Dakota defeats Michigan Tech. WCHA Consolation game: St. Cloud State defeats Minnesota.
  20. I don't think this is a huge problem, since the cap is at 10 games, so with the yearly 11 game schedule it allows you to play a FCS team and still have 10 against D2 teams and get the max bonus. I think this is more aimed at discouraging games against DIIIs and NAIA teams, which isn't a bad idea with the migration of teams from those levels of competition. This will really hurt the GNAC schools, who have few scheduling options closeby.
  21. I guess I missed the last section when I first read this, as I thought I only had to give up a single championship. There is no way I would endure a Chicago Cub like pergatory even for a National Championship in hoops.
  22. Any idea why they went with FCS rather than FPS. The Bowl Subdivision still has a champion and so Playoff Subdivision would seem to make more sense. Not that people won't still use the old names anyway, but it would be more technically accurate.
  23. CC is definitely out, but Denver has a glimmer of hope. Here is a scenario where Denver is in, and UND is a #1 seed. It would likely have us in Rochester with Clarkson, Maine and Quinnipiac. This setup would be great as it would spread out all four WCHA teams, with three as #1 seeds (sound familiar). You have specified the following weight for the quality win bonus: .003 per quality road win User-Specified Results You have specified the following tournament results: Atlantic Hockey Semifinal #2: Connecticut defeats Army. Atlantic Hockey Semifinal #1: Air Force defeats Sacred Heart. Atlantic Hockey Championship game: Air Force defeats Connecticut. CCHA Semifinal #2: Michigan defeats Michigan State. WCHA Semifinal #1: Minnesota defeats Wisconsin. WCHA Championship game: North Dakota defeats Minnesota. WCHA Consolation game: St. Cloud State defeats Wisconsin. Denver needs Sacred Heart to lose, Michigan State and St. Lawrence to lose twice. Air Force winning Atlantic Hockey would also be big help. There are some scenarios where Denver, St. Lawrence and Michigan State are separated by only .0001 in the RPI.
  24. Yep, I think MSU is toast TUC-wise. It might have been possible had CC and UAA won last night.
  25. It looks like a UMass win of Hockey East would be beneficial (since it would hurt BC, BU and UNH) and paired with St. Lawrence win of the ECACHL could get the Sioux up to #3 overall. Also, it appears losing the 3rd place game would hurt St. Cloud a ton, so that's something else to pull for. But first things first, and that's the Sioux winning Friday and Saturday night. If that doesn't happen, then the rest doesn't really matter.
