From my perspective, it does. I especially like Adler on the edges and the way he protects the QB.

A spirited practice today at Memorial Stadium following Sunday's little butt chewing. Lots of chirping and squawking between WRs and DBs to the point where Coach Freund had to step in and take control. A good teachable moment by Coach Freund. That guy's got a bright future! There was also some contact after the whistle on some plays. Suffice it to say, the edginess among players moved up a notch today. Taubenhiem did double duty today for the most part with kicking and punting, as Meindel was a bit sore from Sunday's practice. Got to keep Meindel fresh as he's the only true punter on the roster with the departure of Bolduc. The only thing I've heard is that Bolduc no longer desired to play football. TE Ruhe did not practice today, instead he was a sideline presence for the most part, walking on his own power with no cruches or hard braces or anything like that. He tweaked his leg yesterday. WR Hartness hurt his leg and walked off on his own power to the training room. I think UND and maybe the Herald will be putting out info today on the arrival of Vashon Tucker. The last play of the last drill was an INT by Reyes. But someone from the Offensive side of the ball shouted "Nice push-off, Ocho," signalling that Reyes may have took liberties during the leap and grab. Running backs were running hard again today. Smith looked good and fast again. Arrington ran the hardest that I have seen him run since his arrival at UND. RB Norberg had a nice run up the gut but then ran smack dab into a Ratelle Wall. It was a case of the irresistible force meeting the immovable object! ( : Fresh off a nice story int the Herald about Disterhuapt, the young linebacker continued to try and insert himself into a leadership role by helping the young LBs and DBs during drills. He's a smart kid with a lot of heart. Fullback play, included Adler, Iverson and Coyne. Adler and Coyne were very effective on runs and catches, and Adler is a very good blocker. He sealed a key block on a play that went for more yards than it probably should have. Nothing eventful or anything to write home about today about the QB competition, other than some of the quick passes to the flats tend to sail way over the WRs heads. They've got to get that throw down. That an easy 5-10+ yards if executed right. Wish I could tell you more about the hogs on the OL but I didn't see anything that jumped out at me. The young guys are getting acclimated and there was a couple of botched snaps. See you later!

That's why I tend to be keen on Studsrud, if for nothing else, his mobility. I always seem to get less upset when Keaton holds the ball an extra second or so and then takes off up field.

Bubba brought a different tone to practice today than at any other time I can recall. He called out the team for practicing lazy and weak, and admonished the team's upperclassmen for allowing it to happen. He said the team needs leaders and it needs them now. He added if you're not tough, you won't play in games. Day 2 take aways. Iwarri was the best looking RB today. His speed and moves are quite apparent.. in fact, three players stood out today and showed they are flat out burners: Smith, Santiago and Georges. I continue to to be extremely impresses with Seibel and Alex Reed at WR. Both are lunch pail guys who snarf up anything thrown in their vicinity. Very very good posession receivers. TE Ruhe tweaked his leg today and sat out most of practice. He was walking well on his own power and should be ok. The safety tandem of Johnson and Arnell is very good. The freshmen QBs progression from Day 1 to Day 2 was very noticeable. They looked much better today. Studsrud, Mollberg and Bartles were equally solid. Greely and Carrothers had nice rushes around the outside that would have resulted in big TFLs. All in all a good day with beautiful weather, just need a little more sense of urgency and for some guys to step up and be more vocal in addition to their leading by example.

Very true. And to add to the frustration, I've heard that former North Dakota red shirt QB Palendech is in the running to start at FBS UNLV. Hmmm?
-
Yeah, we were joking today that he looked bigger in his weight room Twitter feed pics. Smith isn't as slight as Dulin but he's got room to grow. He's very young, too. Dulin is the one that is really thin and lanky, then again so was Golloday and look what happened there!
-
They didn't do much today other than block. Oliviera looks the part early. He comes in looking very big for a freshman, at the same time Smith and Dulin at WR are rail thin.

Looks like Mav Edmunds is no longer on the team, per Tom Miller of the Herald.

My eyeball assessment for today's' QB play: 1. Studsrud 1a. Mollberg 2. Bartles 3. Heidelbaugh 4. Hartness Bartles still has a funny hitch after he plants, causing him to be a half second late on throws. S Zach Arnell was the recipient of a gift INT from Bartles probably due to this problem hitch. It was a nice break to the ball on Arnell's part -- possible pick six. Heidelbaugh and Hartness looked understandably overwhelmed at times. I would give the edge to Heidelbaugh on who adapted the best today as far as true freshman QBs go. None of the QBs today could throw a back-fade pattern to save their lives today. As I've said in past years, I will have to defer to others to assess the OL play. That's not my forte. I always seem to miss crucial nuances that others see as very evident. The DL was getting after it today. Lots of young talent there. Tank Harris had a nice bull rush through the middle that flattened the center (Cox) and disrupted the QB.

I got them in hardcopy form from the football SID at today's practice. It looks like the sizes are identical to what has been posted online already, so no updates there. The new rosters do list Sills and the new fullback. Those were the big updates. Other updates showed the new number assignments for players, though there are still some things that need to be straightened out in that regard. Some wrong players' numbers were listed on the newest roster (not the current online one).

Not much for surprises on Day 1. Seibel looked really good. He had a nice long reception in traffic, a DB all over him. Studsrud was at QB on pass to Seibel.

First day of fall camp! Quick glance of first day roster shows new freshman fullback: Josh Leonhard, 6-1, 220, out of Batavia, Ill., Batavia H.S. also no Vashon Tucker listed yet. I will see if I can find out the scoop on that.

NCAA To Sanction UND if School Does Not Adopt New Nickname
Teeder11 replied to Benny Baker's topic in UND Nickname
You're getting very warm, bordering on white hot. -

The quality of Hawaii hockey sucks, though, amiright?
-
I have one and wear it proudly! Waaarrrr-i-ors!!!!!! Can you dig it!?
-
Yeah, I haven't heard of any hardships getting recruits to come to the land of Paradise and palm trees because of their lame a$$ nickname.
-
University of Hawaii seems to do aright. Disclaimer: I am not advocating for Sundogs.

If it is Helgren....that's a pretty nice addition. 6-6, 270 OL with offers from SDSU and USD.

Are you serious? Mind. Blown. ?

I think the times that I remember us being very bad last year --worse than I expected -- were against Mo. State, So. Utah and EWU. I think injuries and lack of depth in the latter two games played a huge role. But those are the breaks.
-
I certainly did! Good catch! Thanks.

It never ceases to amaze me what a good job Bubba and staff have done over the last two years as they've battled the losses of the players to attrition for various reason, including cutting hold-over players from the old staff who weren't up to par or were not committed to UND football. Because of this, too many (IMHO) players have been rushed forth to two-deep status and have had to have their shirts pulled instead of allowing them to get acclimated early on. No critizing this practice, as I know it needed to be done. For what it's worth, based on a quick scan, here is a look at our core of young players (pre-junior status) currently on the roster, as of today. These are the guys who committed to UND and have stuck with it, so far,and who have had the luxury of developing slowly and arguably the right way. Some of them might have played right away, too, had it not been for injuries that kept their Red Shirts intact. Defense/Special Teams: 1. Reyes, DB -So 2. Flowers, DB - RSo -- Juco transfer 3. O'Brien, LB - So 4. Harmston, LB - RFr 5. Walton, LB - RFr 6. Schmitz, DE - So 7. Cieselak, DE - RFr 8. Meindel, P/K - RSo* Offense: 1. Fiedler, TE - RFr 2. Francis, TE - RFr 3. Ruhe, TE - So 4. Norberg, RB - So 5. Coyne, FB - RFr 6. Miller, OL - So 7. Taylor, OL - RFr 8. Cox, OL - So 9. Stiner, OL - RFr 10. Bell, OL - So 11. Stockwell, OL - So 12. Stanley, WR - RFr * played right away but was held out last year, initially for disciplinary reasons

I was fearing this when all of a sudden Jordan's dad stopped posting here. Well, moving ahead...... Greer is highly touted out of High School. And we know Bubba and Schmidt aren't above playing true freshman on the line.
