yeah, a bit smallish for TE, about an inch shorter than Adler, who I thought was borderline.

Speaking of gimmicks.... scuttlebutt at the beginning of this year was that a certain big ol' true freshman hog might see some time in the offensive backfield on short yardage situations. Would have loved to see that. Wonder if that might still be in the offing in future years?
-
Good for Joe! I think he could be a real nimble threat a that position, with great understanding of the QB/receiver relationship as far as passing and blocking. Hope he heals up good enough to do it.

Yeah, good questions on Merz.....in his FB comment, it sounded like his heart just wasn't in football or school anymore and he wanted to move on to a good paying job that he didn't need a four-year degree to have.
-
Don't think JUCO transfer Camy saw any time this year... nice size but footwork wasn't there IMHO. Merz had considerable promise, tho, out of H.S.

I should add that it is my humble opinion that there are far more people that are UND sports fans in general at our football and basketball games than there are those that are dedicated to only one sport. Not saying there aren't football only and basketball only fans, because there are. Just fewer by comparison.

The only way I can explain it is to use a personal anecdote. I am a Duke fan living in Grand Forks, N.D. So what does that really mean? It means I am a Duke BASKETBALL fan. I couldn't care less about Duke football, baseball, or even lacrosse. So it is with many people around the region, and country, and dare I say world, with UND HOCKEY. They love UND hockey, and I do, too; there is a lot to like about our program, to say the least. But for many, they couldn't care less about UND's other sports programs, much less the school overall. Their connection is to one thing and one thing only -- hockey. And with that passion comes the adoration for the symbol that the UND hockey program has revered and held in the highest esteem more than any other program at UND. So it's reasonable that this would be the result. So be it. It is what it is.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing.... if you're gonna play, play here!? Who knows.

Good story out today on Toivonen. Classy kid. http://www.republican-eagle.com/sports/wingers/3899265-all-area-football-toivonen-catches-among-states-best From the article: Prior to the start of the 2015 season, Toivonen added an extra inch and some muscle to his frame, eventually coming into the year at 6-foot-4 and 200 pounds. “He got bigger, stronger and faster. And we flat-out told him this year that he’s got to be more assertive as a wide receiver,” said Wingers’ head coach Rickey Foggie. “We watched film and watched defensive backs, and there’s nobody his size. So we took advantage of his size. He worked hard and Tait (Kelly) got him the football.”

Which is why it is great that we don't have to be one or the other....we can aspire to be both! Sheesh! Why is that not sinking in? They're both great, folks! You can have your preferences but that's all they are. A championship in any sport we offer is not a bad thing.

Hope Murray's addition is for depth and has nothing to do wiith status of any existing ILBs. Have no reason to be worried, just saying.

That video doesn't help my patience for next August to get here quickly!
-
Don't need your help. We're policing our own just fine.

Dammit! I just had to keep up my average 1.2 errors per post going, didn't I?.... I meant Knox.... for some reason I get those two mixed up a lot. Thanks for another assist, SWSiouxMN!

So am I correct in that we lose Loyd and Szabla to graduation, and that Strand and Swatzke are red shirting this year and will be back next year, and that we have Gorres and Borroughs (Denver transfer) coming in, but Coughlin (Minnesota transfer) is done with basketball completely?

good point! Adjust table accordingly. Never mind, I did it to reflect current realities.

Let's do an inventory here (I may be a bit biased ): UND/Grand Forks SDSU/Brookings Existing verbal X IPF X X FCOA X COACHING STAFF X X SCHOOL QUALITY X TOWN QUALITY X DISTANCE FROM HOME X X ACADEMIC MAJOR UNKOWN UNKNOWN FCS SUCCESS X

As of now, it looks like 3 of UND's first four 2016 opponents will have new coaches installed (not sure about Stoney Brook situation). I don't know if this is good or bad. Some teams may be getting used to new schemes, but it makes it that much harder to prepare for.
-
Yes, I plan to. Although I think the football SID is getting a little tired of having to monitor my posts. Honestly, though, the entire AD staff has always been gracious in giving the public access to practices. Some programs restrict access to 30 minutes, which usually only entails special teams work.

That is great news! I read the first few words of your post and my heart sank. I was dreading the rest afterall that's how a lot of posts used to start in the football offseason (for us), and they were usually followed by departure news of some sort. I'm not naive enough to think we might not have some of that still but it sure is refreshing to read something like this. August can't come soon enough for me!

if it's something you "care" about then 37 pages will fly right by. I know there aren't a whole lot of pictures to help you along the way with picture clues, being a Moo U guy and all, but buck up, you can do it, because you "care." Besides, it seems you have more than enough time on your hands to be posting inane BS on another school's message board at 10 am on a Thursday. What else you got to do while you wait your turn at Job Service, right?
-
OK, the only thing is, none of this that was asserted above to be happening here in Grand Forks (i.e. clothing nazis) is actually happening.
-
Exactly. This is not happening, folks. Move along, nothing to see here.

Speaking of rushing prowess, the only FCS running back in North Dakota to make this list is from UND. Hmmm? Who could that be? (caveat: This site needs better proofreaders as they have ISU RB Marshaun Coprich listed as coming from NIU -- Oh well.) http://herosports.com/collegefootball/watch-top-5-running-backs-fcs/?utm_source=Twitter&utm_medium=Article&utm_campaign=FCSFootball#
