Who are you referring to as a third string bust in particular?
-
Yeah, I think Iwarri has a break out year this next year..... we have to remember he was probably the youngest player on the squad at only 17 when he started. He got a full dose of FCS football last season, now he knows what to expect. He runs hard. Jury is still out on his hands, but I think that is a confidence thing more than anything. It will be fun to see where he shakes out.
-
And then there's Seacrest, who should get a very-much-needed red shirt year to grow and mature.
-
Don't sell short on Gordon, either. He surprised the heck out of me at fall camp and I've heard he's continued to impress coaches throughout the year on scout team.
-
You'd be surprised how cloak and dagger the recruiting game can get. Patience, my friend. Let's get the right fit. If there's someone out there that is a quality get, I'd rather we get him over bringing in a warm body quickly.
-
this is correct. He prepped, dressed and traveled with the team as a true freshman just in case, but his shirt was never pulled.
-
Arnell is the one I'm really wondering about as far as med red shirt.
-
yeah, a bit smallish for TE, about an inch shorter than Adler, who I thought was borderline.
-
Speaking of gimmicks.... scuttlebutt at the beginning of this year was that a certain big ol' true freshman hog might see some time in the offensive backfield on short yardage situations. Would have loved to see that. Wonder if that might still be in the offing in future years?
-
Good for Joe! I think he could be a real nimble threat a that position, with great understanding of the QB/receiver relationship as far as passing and blocking. Hope he heals up good enough to do it.
-
Yeah, good questions on Merz.....in his FB comment, it sounded like his heart just wasn't in football or school anymore and he wanted to move on to a good paying job that he didn't need a four-year degree to have.
-
Don't think JUCO transfer Camy saw any time this year... nice size but footwork wasn't there IMHO. Merz had considerable promise, tho, out of H.S.

I should add that it is my humble opinion that there are far more people that are UND sports fans in general at our football and basketball games than there are those that are dedicated to only one sport. Not saying there aren't football only and basketball only fans, because there are. Just fewer by comparison.

The only way I can explain it is to use a personal anecdote. I am a Duke fan living in Grand Forks, N.D. So what does that really mean? It means I am a Duke BASKETBALL fan. I couldn't care less about Duke football, baseball, or even lacrosse. So it is with many people around the region, and country, and dare I say world, with UND HOCKEY. They love UND hockey, and I do, too; there is a lot to like about our program, to say the least. But for many, they couldn't care less about UND's other sports programs, much less the school overall. Their connection is to one thing and one thing only -- hockey. And with that passion comes the adoration for the symbol that the UND hockey program has revered and held in the highest esteem more than any other program at UND. So it's reasonable that this would be the result. So be it. It is what it is.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing.... if you're gonna play, play here!? Who knows.

Good story out today on Toivonen. Classy kid. http://www.republican-eagle.com/sports/wingers/3899265-all-area-football-toivonen-catches-among-states-best From the article: Prior to the start of the 2015 season, Toivonen added an extra inch and some muscle to his frame, eventually coming into the year at 6-foot-4 and 200 pounds. “He got bigger, stronger and faster. And we flat-out told him this year that he’s got to be more assertive as a wide receiver,” said Wingers’ head coach Rickey Foggie. “We watched film and watched defensive backs, and there’s nobody his size. So we took advantage of his size. He worked hard and Tait (Kelly) got him the football.”

Which is why it is great that we don't have to be one or the other....we can aspire to be both! Sheesh! Why is that not sinking in? They're both great, folks! You can have your preferences but that's all they are. A championship in any sport we offer is not a bad thing.

Hope Murray's addition is for depth and has nothing to do wiith status of any existing ILBs. Have no reason to be worried, just saying.

That video doesn't help my patience for next August to get here quickly!

Don't need your help. We're policing our own just fine.

Dammit! I just had to keep up my average 1.2 errors per post going, didn't I?.... I meant Knox.... for some reason I get those two mixed up a lot. Thanks for another assist, SWSiouxMN!

So am I correct in that we lose Loyd and Szabla to graduation, and that Strand and Swatzke are red shirting this year and will be back next year, and that we have Gorres and Borroughs (Denver transfer) coming in, but Coughlin (Minnesota transfer) is done with basketball completely?
-
good point! Adjust table accordingly. Never mind, I did it to reflect current realities.
