In all fairness to John Chaske and the rest of the petition people, I agree with him "Who is really hurting the student athletes at UND? Where is the true source of this harm coming from? The real source of harm is the NCAA and its policies and sanctions against UND, not the Fighting Sioux name and symbol." The problem with the statement is that — until he, his group, or a Federal court convinces the NCAA to change their stance — the harm is a foregone conclusion. All the wringing of hands and the gnashing of teeth in North Dakota is not going to change anything. The change has to be accomplished in Indianapolis, IN. -
A NDSC ruling in favor of the SBOHE could benefit all Higher Ed.

You did that on purpose, didn't you? -
I understand your position, and agree that the NC$$ will not be swayed by a bunch of flatlanders here on the Plains. I would, however, like to believe Congress has a lot more important things to do than take the NC$$ to the woodshed, regardless of the fact that it is a deserved trip.

Right on the money here, Ira. -
I'll have to do the math, but I might have had a kid in the 5th grade that year.

Waiting for a June election might be waiting too long. This has to get into and back out of the Supreme Court a.s.a.p.

What happens if the first petition gains enough signatures?

Not around here, it seems. -
You are forgetting about the "second" petition; if the Fighting Sioux name makes it into the state constitution, we'll be right back in this mess again.

Should Hakstol be considered for National Coach of the Year?

For your sake, don't venture into the Sioux Name thread... -
That would be fabulous!!!!!!

I don't even fill my car's gas tank!

Meh. When you get to be my age, the future is pretty wonderful.

If you're looking for someone to blame, look to the east: Barry Alvarez.

I don't understand how you can use the word "produced" when referring to EJ's one year wearing a Gopher sweater. He was just passing through town.

I think "struggle to fill Amsoil" is disingenuous: Duluth is averaging over 6300 attendance in a rink that lists 6751 as a "sellout". That's selling 94% of available seats, which I wouldn't characterize as a "struggle".

I don't particularly care for fighting in hockey per se. However, I think a lot of what is wrong with college hockey today — the cheap shots, blatant cross checks, the taunting and jersey-popping, and maybe ever the checking from behind — would go away in a hurry if the fear of being held accountable was present. Ben Blood laying a smack-down on one of these little pukes would put an end to a lot of the shennanigans.

Can you translate this to English for us old people? Please?

Scary that the team already has to adopt a "playoff time" attitude, but that's what it's come down to.

I heard over the weekend that dozens of potential donors to MSUM's hockey program are just waiting to be told how much to write the check for. I would not be surprised to hear very soon that they've hit their number.

Let's not get too carried away with the "subsidy" concept... The NCAA announced it has reached a 14-year, nearly $11 billion agreement with CBS and Turner Sports for the TV rights to a 68-team tournament
-
Wouldn't the WCHA and the NCHC tournaments be the same weekend? I assume there will be a first-round at home rinks, but the winners advance to the Final Four or Five or whatever. I can't see both being in Mpls/StPaul the same weekend.

Don't know about that, but I notice my initials are in there

^The pledge is in the amount they've published.
