  1. I was at the Denver game Saturday. My first time on DU's campus and in Magness Arena. Denver's campus is beautiful, in a beautiful section of a beautiful city. And a view of the Rockies. That's got to help recruiting a bunch. Magness, on the other hand, is a dump.
  2. I'm just throwing this out there, and have no statistical justification for my question, but how successful at college level have any BCHL prolific scorers been? I get the feeling that's a high-scoring league, but when faced with bigger, older opponents in D1 hockey, the scoring drops off precipitously. Is it time to start focusing on different development leagues? (Don't flame me; I'm old. And frankly, I don't give a damn if you light into me.)
  3. At least one courtesy of yours truly.
  4. I don't understand why CC would move to a 3000 seat arena, regardless of its on-campus location. They regularly attract 4000+ to home games at World Arena. What am I missing?
  5. Mismash has to go into the corners more if he's a first liner.
  6. Really easy way to make this team better: score some goals. 2.92 goals per game didn't cut it, and next year will college hockey will be even more open. Berry has to find a couple 20 goal scorers. Not BCJHL 20-goal guys.
  7. Is this team capable of running off six wins in a row? That's all it takes. Cam has to play better. Sub .900 save percentage isn't going to get it done.
  8. There will be many tickets sold for $500 per seat, per night. I know folks in my section - 112 - who've already topped that.
  9. When is a UND team going to be able to break a trap?
  10. There is a photo floating around of a "certain" 70s-era UND student in a referee's shirt hanging over the ice yelling that I'd like to get my hands on. I think it originally appeared in the Dakota Student.
  11. this thread is starting to read like a shampoo bottle: lather, rinse, repeat.
  12. Let's not get carried away favorably comparing DI hockey with FCS football. Last I checked only 60 teams play the highest level of NCAA hockey; 125 football teams in FCS.
  13. I don't know if it is Berry's presence, but the recruiting classes have been significantly different in the last 6-7 years. I always felt it was Hakstol trying to reshape the team to compete better against the Boston Colleges of the world: add speedy, offensively talented d-men to the team and keep hammering on the power forward prototype up front.
  14. Schlossman is a world-class performer. There is no one in the country who does a better job putting readers inside the minds and locker rooms of their favorite college hockey team. Hate to doom the guy to a lifetime career at The Herald, but I hope he hangs around forever.
  15. How the heck does this thread still have legs?
  16. I'll freely admit I was on the ledge before Schmaltz's goal. I didn't think it was bad coaching, or the players dogging it. I just didn't want to face another heartbreaking end to the Frozen Four.
  17. Wow, when you look at the tournament in these terms, UND beat the hell out of everyone they played.
  18. This from Mavs Puck board: Getting rid of the asst. coaches is not the answer. Lot's of lipstick but it's still a pig and Blais is the reason.
  19. Late to this discussion, but a couple of points to consider: The radio station that buys the rights to NDSU football doesn't sell any of the advertisements aired during the game, or the "official" pre-game or post-game. That is a package produced by and sold by NDSU. KFGO could only sell ads in the pre-pre-game and the extended, non-official post-game. I'm sure the football games add to the station's listenership, but it isn't doing a lot in the directly-attributable revenue department. I don't know if that's how UND broadcasts are structured.
  20. Moving to Florida seems to have changed Brian's outlook a bit: I think this was his first game for the Lightning.
