As much as I hate to say this, I think the NCAA needs to get involved in college hockey as it pertains to conference membership. I have no problem at all with the WCHA closing its doors to new members, but the 59 teams currently playing DI hockey could certainly be divided in a more equitable fashion. Without regard to geography or time-honored rivalries, why not "steal" two teams from each of the CCHA and ECACHL and move them into the CHA. The NCAA should also do whatever it can to expand DI hockey, by helping DIII teams make the jump, or encouraging current club teams. Attendance figures for DIII hockey would seem to indicate that promotion possibility is quite limited, as only nine teams averaged over 1000 attendance for the season just completed. It would be great to see the number of DI teams to get up into the 70s, or 80s, with eight conferences each with an auto-bid. Hockey unfortunately, remains a niche sport. After a great deal of thought, and much self-analysis, I've decided to offer myself as the designated whipping boy for the coming hockey season. Rather than beat up on the above-mentioned players, please turn your criticism, hatred and vitriol on mikejm. In fact, rather than waiting 'til October, you may feel free to begin immediately. I realize that at my age I don't have the physical strength or endurance to carry the team to #8 like my bro Triouxper. This is my way to help as I can.

I'm with The Whistler and shep on this; baseball is a heckuva game. Every pitch, in fact every instant is filled with moves, counter-moves, "do we pitch to this guy"s, etc. For a person to truly appreciate baseball, one needs to watch the constant signs and signals passing around the diamond: from the dugout to the catcher; dugout to the base coaches; dug out to the fielders, and so on. I'd go so far as to say baseball is the most cerebral among the "major" sports.

I am very pleased to see these young men plead guilty. I'm not happy that the incident occured, but that they've decided to accept the responsibility. That's a sign of maturity that is unfortunately becoming rather rare in the world today. I won't pretend to believe these guys won't crack a beer again before they're 21; but they've shown me another glimpse into the core of their character by fessing up. I am still curious, however, to see (as Hak alluded) how the team dealt (or is dealing) with the infraction.
