Perhaps not a smooth move, but when the comment and/or the characterization is warranted, I say let 'er fly. This sort of ties in to the whole mess that (d)evolved on a couple other thread over the last month or so. When a kid (yes, see, I acknowledge these young men are still "kids") signs on the dotted line to play hockey for a big-time program like UMTC or UND, they take onto themselves more than a place on a team and a free (or nearly) college education. Their talent and skills have brought them to the limelight, and that light sometimes creates some very harsh shadows. Frazee, in this case (but this is one of those "fill in the blank" kind of statements) receives all sort of accolades when his play is stellar. He gets the headlines, he gets the slaps on the back and yes, the free cocktails at the local watering hole. He's in the spotlight and his success "earns" him things most other college students only dream about. But when his play (or his conduct) is less than what is expected, he, by the same measure, is in line for criticism from his fans and his coaches. I'm sure that in this case Rob Stauber has quietly approached Frazee attempting to help him "fix" the problem that pops up time after time, to no avail. Frazee's play is deserving of criticism; his coach made it official. All of this, of course, is merely IMHO.

Oh thank gawd. After I posted that I was really starting to wonder if I hadn't had a Timothy Leary. :cringe:

Thanks. Was that why Colby only had three years of eligibility?

Did anyone else read the "explanation" that the clock was at fault for this whole folderol? I believe I read (somewhere) that the clock actually goes like this: 0:01.0 0:00 THEN to 0:00.9 0:00.8 So when the ref was looking at the clock in the replay he was (sort of) correctly seeing time had "expired" (cause the clock read zeroes) when in actuality there was still some tenths of a second remaining? Or did I just imagine that? (Could just be one of those flashback dealies..........)

huh. Thanks for the info. It seems odd to me that the USHL lets MJs in. Are there still mechanisms through which a player with limited MJ playing time can regain their NCAA eligibility. For some reason I recall Colby Genoway lost a year at UND because of an MJ thing. Help?
-
Wow, wonder what the story is with this guy? That's a lot of games in the WHL. And now he's playing down a level? USHL must not prohibit a pro signee playing. Weird.

Agreed. And that complex can, unfortunately, seep into other aspects of life and start to take the form of a self-fulfilling prophecy. North Dakota, in fact all of the Great Plains, needs to focus on the positives that truly exist here and transmit that karma. Bellyaching about a magazine article has no upside.

I was looking at the rest of the schedule and agree with your observation... Now that these guys know what a sweep feels like, things could be very fun for the next 90 days or so. They have a real possibility to get 10 more conference wins before the Final 5. That would make for a very high seed.

I'll have to go with a 10-minute OT, but 5 on 5. With so many Olympic rinks in the WCHA, 4 on 4 would be a little difficult to watch IMHO. (Wait a minute, my opinion is never humble!!!!!!!) And I don't mind a game ending in a tie. Sometimes a tie is a satisfactory outcome. I can think of many games I've seen where one team has battled back to tie and then lose in OT on some flukey thing. That seems like a travesty.

Now that's just crazy talk.

Thanks for the US International...yeah, that was it. I hadn't thought of Montana/Idaho for hockey expansion. I wonder how a college team there would do? NAHL teams have have a horrible time in Billings. As far as I can recall, there isn't an American junior team between Bismarck and the Alaska. As I said, adding to the number of D-I hockey programs is more important to me than is the conference affiliation of BSU or any other team.
-
This topic has become mind-numbing. I really could care less whether BSU is in the WCHA or not. What concerns me is the future of D-I hockey. We are 59 schools and dropping. And aside from a few obvious exceptions in the WCHA and CCHA, the schools involved in hockey are smallish enrollment-wise. College hockey is essentially a boutique sport. Every hockey program needs to work as hard as possible to expand the sport to more schools, perhaps even new geographies. Who would've ever thought Huntsville, AL? Heck, when I first started watching UND hockey I seem to remember a D-I program in San Diego! I like the WCHA's apparent offer of assistance to BSU in scheduling. Someone earlier posted the interlocking schedule arrangement that essentially saved the WCHA's bacon after it lost the Michigan schools. Every conference, every team, every college hockey fan needs to be focused on the big picture here, which is maintaining D-I hockey's viability. We need to bring more fans into the sport, and eventually more teams, more conferences, etc.

So, the kid is presently a sophomore in high school, and he's going to play next year in the USHL with the alleged Fargo team. Then what? That puts us at 2009-10; Schlossman says he's a 2010 recruit. I must be getting too old; I think all parties in this thing are being asked to make commitments at far too early a stage of development. Good for UND, the kid sounds like a stud. But who knows what he's going to be like almost three full school years from now.

This is one of my biggest frustrations with this team. They seem to be aiming for a SportsCenter highlight goal instead of just a goal. Oh, and we really need to be shooting quicker; too long holding the puck, more blocked shots, etc.

Happened right in front of me: a Techie came out of nowhere and just flat-out bowled Lammy over! I think JPL may have done a full gainer in the air. Obviously not a single set of striped-shirt eyes saw it. My kids looked at me like "did you see that?" and I looked at the dude sitting next to me and he never even had a clue that it had occurred. Lamoureux limped for a couple minutes after that, and I think some of the rough stuff from the Sioux was in retaliation of the hit. It was deliberate, and had nothing to do with the action, which had gone almost to the blue line by that point. Aside from the dude who hit Lammy, there wasn't another skater within 15 feet of him.
-
Excellent observation Y. Friday was not the first night this has happened to the Sioux. Time to stop trying for the highlight goals. Time to get ugly.

Jeeze. I'm hearing a lot about d-men not handling the puck very well in their own zone. Having hellish times getting it out of the zone. Too bad Brian Lee signed with the Sens, huh? Oh, and one other thing: a championship team needs a goaltender who makes all the saves he's supposed to make and a couple great ones every game. This team doesn't have that right now.
-
Somebody's gotta start taking this personally. Someone has to step up and say "Enough". I don't want to hear about puck luck, a hot goalie, whatever. This is embarassing. A team that was pre-season No. 1.
-
Disappointing. Not surprising. And, as someone else has already pointed out, it is time for the boys to grow up.
-
I thought he was making quite a bit more than 100K. If that's all he was pulling down I'll go back and sit in my corner. Sorry for the interruption.
-
Those numbers make absolutely no sense. It lists JT at $2.8 mil, yet the rookie maximum IIRC is less than $900K. What am I missing?

Clearly you're dealing with some "other" issues... wanna share? I have the name of a wonderful therapist I can share with you.

Boy, that doesn't seem like a big enough pay raise to make the move... there's something else going on here.
