  1. According to the WCHA media guide he is # 6 on the all-time list for all games, and tied for 5th for just WCHA games.
  2. Might be nice to show that ESPN quote to Craig Bohl. Thats an outside source confirming what North Dakota team holds the spotlight.
  3. Was kind of wondering the same thing. I have a feeling that they determined they were going to get a look at everyone, especially since it was parents weekend, and Miller just was one that was out of the mix. I know this week of practice will tell who will be going to Wisconsin, but maybe Hak wanted to get an extra look at Martens to see if he had the game capacity to possibly be making that trip as well. From what I saw last weekend, I would like to see Bishop, Miller and Forney make the trip and play on the same line. It certainly is nice for Hak to have those options though.
  4. Was that one of the games that they were experimenting with 4 officials? Have no fear, Derek Sheppard will be officiating many games, and my bet is that he will be called upon again for the Sioux/Gopher series in January.
  5. The D.O.T (Department of Transportation) line sounds good. Just hop on board and they'll take the Sioux where they need to go, and give the opponents a ride they won't soon forget. Obviously, they all have the wheels to get it done, and their engines never stop.
  6. So what would your policy be if he did something after he was named Captain? Would you replace him as Captain?
  7. I see they are going to charge this year for taking the shuttle bus and for various parking lots around the Ralph. I know the cost is nothing like it is in Minneapolis, but neither are the wages around here. I would hate to be a homeowner around the Ralph, because people are going to park in the streets even further from the Ralph now. Why aren't they building a parking ramp at the Ralph like they are by the student union? They already have extra season tickets to sell. This could push a few more people over the edge, especially those that don't mind watching in their recliner on cold winter nights. Not me, mind you, but it is frustrating that every single year of the new Ralph, I have found a good parking spot, and without fail, every year they have taken that lot and turned it into a restricted lot.

    Joe Finley

Small players that come to mind that were great defensemen are Curtis Murphy and Russ Parent. If he turns out to be half the players they were it would be nice. Is Genoway that small, or are there other players that he is being compared to? I agree that the less expectations that are placed on freshmen, the easier it is for them to come into their own without the added pressure.
  9. Thanks! Guess I could have looked at the committment list before posting.
  10. Based purely on being the leading scorer thus far in the BCHL at 17 years old, I wonder if the Sioux coaches are looking at Casey Pierro-Zabotel in their recruiting. Don't know if he has the intangibles the coaches are looking for or not, but let's face it, as fans without seeing someone play, most look at numbers alone. Have to admit, I'm no different, although doing well at a young age seems to catch my eye even more. I know its too early to draw too many conclusions, especially since guys like Trupp and Turris either haven't played, or not played many games.
  11. Isn't that the point? It's rankings based on people who likely haven't even seen some of these guys play. If they had any insight, they would have had Ryan Duncan in the top 20 forwards. It's nice to have players named, but I'm not going to get bent out of shape because they don't have a number of players. As for the person worried about the Sioux recruiting--you really need to have a little more confidence in the coaches that recruit these players, not the so-called experts. I would call your attention to the post concerning character and talent.
  12. If the Sioux ran the ball more, there would have been a number of fans saying that they were being too conservative, and why move away from something that is working. Sometimes I think the offensive coaches can't win. While I share the sentiment that this has a makings for a special team, let's not get ahead of ourselves. Last year the Sioux throttled everyone then ran into one game that changed the confidence level. They never totally got it back again. Let's hope they learned from last year.
  13. Have to agree with Bucky Sieve on one thing, the ratings don't always turn out to be very accurate. When you have Skille, Rau, Raymond, and Wheeler ahead of Toews at #9, and all of those and Stoa above Oshie at #16, how can anyone be upset about such a speculative and uninformed "guess"? Remember Wes Dorey, who was supposed to be the big-time recruit. Seems to me a little dynamo named Panzer was the star of that freshman class. Can't wait to see if there are any Panzer's that surprise in this years class.
  14. I think what most people are saying is that it is on the ice that talent, or lack thereof will be proven. From what I understand, Lucia is talking about the need to rethink the recruiting strategy to have more four year players around, at least more evenly distributed. To look at it through rose-colored glasses, maybe the Sioux are just ahead of the game in that regard.
  15. Seems to me like 2000 is part of this century.
  16. Maybe a better way to put it is that Wisconsin is a little more structured and maybe not quite as aggressive on the offensive end. You play to your strengths. That being said, I think the Sioux have become a little more structured in terms of their forecheck since Hakstol took over, while keeping the aggressive attitude.
  17. Parents tend to be a little biased when it comes to their children. Some are downright messed up. To the outsider looking in, how can you possibly not realize how good Parise was down the stretch of his career. Don't believe anyone would have done anything with the goaltending situation any different than what the coaches did, unless of course they have a reason to be biased.
  18. I have one season ticket for sale in Section 302A row G, right above the plexiglass in the upper deck. This is in a row with only 6 seats, and is the 4th one in. Looking for $410, which is the cost with 1/2 the FSC membership.
  19. Real mature response. Don't ask a question if you aren't able to deal with the answer. It might not be the answer you like, or it may not be a correct answer, but you asked the question. Way to start out posting.
  20. I'm thinking Montana was ranked about 3rd when NDSU beat them. Hopefully the Sioux will take a lesson from the Bison missing the playoffs that year and the need to set this game aside and focus on the rest of the year. Let's face it, if a team beats us now, they will be pretty excited themselves, because of who the Sioux beat. It is a pretty exciting win, but really I tend to agree with Lennon's philosophy of acting like you expect it. I think there were/are a lot of people who believe that the higher ups in DII could compete well with DIAA elite teams. The thing with more scholarships is that you have a better opportunity to hit on those diamonds in the rough that are inevitable in each recruiting class. We have quite a few of those now, so to be able to add those scholarships down the road will only give us more of those weapons. I had a feeling the Sioux would be competitive, but when you are talking about elite teams in each division, the chance of winning on their home field isn't huge. See Grand Valley State the last few times, once in their house, and once in ours. Beating UNI on their home field is a big accomplishment, just as it would have been to beat Grand Valley on their field last year. I would have been more confident in the Sioux beating UNI if the game would have been at the Alerus. As it stands, it turned out to be a great win that the Sioux will be able to feed off of for future success in recruiting and on-field endeavors. As fans, lets celebrate it for more than the 24-hour celebration period the Sioux players get, but once Winona rolls around, let's not live in the past. Hopefully then, the Sioux will be able add to their DII legacy before they move on to DIAA, and hopefully the NCAA will be put on hold and the Sioux can host some more playoff games at the Alerus. They still have a season full of games to play first though.
  21. You honestly think that Forney is going to practically match what Toews and Oshie did last year? Never say never, but don't be disappointed if together they only produce 15 goals +/- 5 goals. If that did happen, it would surprise me much more than what Oshie and Toews did last year. Vandevelde might put up better numbers than those two, although I suspect he won't really get going until the second half. That is my hope for the three of them, that they can hit their stride the second half of the season. Any kind of early production would be like gravy.

    CWU vs UND

I hope you guys are right and that the Sioux can handle Central Washington. They have had a tough time a couple years in the past and CWU brought in some transfers along with losing only 5 starters. This game concerns me a bit, mostly because if they lose this game it could be almost a must-win situation against a heavily favored Northern Iowa team. Two losses doesn't eliminate you from playoff contention, but it sure puts your back against the wall. Any team that can beat Nebraska Omaha and win 7 in a row while averaging 42 points can't be taken lightly, and I hope the Sioux are all business in this one.

    Dane Jackson

Consider the source of the letter to the editor. From what I'm told he is Steve Johnson's brother in law.
  24. You don't think that Erik Johnson can challenge him for ROTY. I would guess that Johnson will be the preseason ROTY, and if he puts up halfway decent offensive numbers I would think he would have a decent chance of winning. Okposo should get a lot of ice time and will need to score for Minnesota to do well, but if I had a one-year player like Johnson, I would be using the heck out of him as well.
  25. I thought it was neat when Kollar said that Mike has been with New Jersey, Anaheim, Calgary and Carolina and each one went to the Stanley Cup finals. Obviously Mike didn't have a big hand in the first two, but it is kind of strange that where he has gone the teams had success. Don't know for sure if each had their success directly when he was there or just in the vicinity of time.
