    Toews Watch

I hardly think that Canada is starving for another star when Crosby is probably the best player going, or will be shortly.
  3. He said someone is looking at Arnason, nothing more. Someone asked a question regarding GF players, he responded.
  4. Not saying Arnason is a D1 talent or not, but he did play better against Deichert head to head. Didn't Deichert give up 8 goals against Red River, or did he get pulled before that? He also wasn't that impressive at the state tournament. You certainly can't argue with Arnason's numbers. True he played for a very good team, but then again so did Deichert. http://www.gfparks.org/ndaha/goalieleaders.html
  5. I think the NCAA should let go of that policy regardless. It ultimately favors one league over another, because it is allowing every team in a league to get extra games for playing a team in their league. I know the philosphy is to grow the game of hockey, but at some point it basically becomes a bribe to play a team. Oh, that's right the NCAA lives by the bribe. Ask Florida State, they have them in their back pocket--literally.
  6. I guess I didn't take your initial post literally, but just that UND had a pipeline to Shattuck which might cause more players to at least take a look at UND. Which makes sense, especially when you have administrators at Shattuck like Parise and Stafford that had kids go to UND. The word of mouth from those two alone would hold a lot of weight I suspect.
  7. Get rid of the drain on WCHA budgets by getting rid of Anchorage and bring in a natural draw in Bemidji. What does Anchorage do for the WCHA other than cost extra travel money and according to most coaches, a trip that takes at least a week to recover. Somebody needs to make that tough decision. I know the feeling is that you need to keep programs going like that, but why not keep a program going that is close by. It's not like Anchorage brings the WCHA a lot of prestige.

    Toews Watch

It would be nice if Toews stays another year at UND to give Chicago one more top-end pick. Let's face it, with or without Toews they aren't going to be great, but if he stays away they might get another top 3 pick. If they add a nice player in this year's draft and another next year, they have the makings of a really nice squad that could contend for awhile, providing they draft wisely. I think Pittsburgh will be contenders every year now with their nice drafts of Crosby, Malkin and Staal. I guess what I am saying is Toews could really set his teams up nicely, both UND and Chicago by staying another year, giving UND a great chance at an NCAA title, and Chicago a strong base for the future. Do you think he would buy that logic? Neither do I! Bottom line is Toews should do what he feel is best for him and either way he will win.

    Toews Watch

Toews will most likely sign, but when/if he does, it would be nice if his brother David would verbally commit that day to help offset the disappointment.
  10. ... and Matt Moreland isn't playing college hockey. So maybe you're the one that doesn't know anything.
  11. Maybe that is why Finley got a penalty for a clean check in the semi-final game. They are just priming the pump to ban him completely from college hockey for being too big!
  12. I would be surprised if Genoway moved back to forward, because I think he can make a greater impact at defense. It will be interesting to see if both Marto and Lapoint come in next year. I don't believe Marto can go back to the USHL because of age limitations. Does anyone know exactly what the age limit is?
  13. Regardless if Toews leaves, I still think you might see the DOT line with Trupp. He appears to have some get up and go that could match that of Oshie and Duncan. It would be nice to slip Toews in there again and let Trupp add scoring to the rest of the lineup. How great would that be?
  14. There are different kinds of coaches. Dean Blais would break sticks and let his players know how he felt. Dave Hakstol has a much more calm demeanor. Both have been very successful. Roebuck is what he is, and that passion is what makes him and his teams successful. Is he perfect? No! But then again, neither are Blais or Hakstol, and I wouldn't trade any of them and their passion for UND for a coach who wouldn't bleed green.
  15. Too bad about Ness. One has to wonder if his dad had any affinity to UND though, being that he didn't get to play when he was here and I believe quit the team. Sure aren't picking up the offspring of UND players lately, i.e. Marvin, Christian and now Ness. I am sure they were after Ness in a big way, but not sure the offers on the other two. Glad we have Lamoureaux and Duncan in house now though. What does this do for Landman?
  16. How soon we forget. Seems like a few Sioux players had a disruptive influence on the Sioux season. Cut the kid some slack. Either that, or don't use a double standard when a gopher does something disruptive, and when a Sioux player does. Be consistent.

    WCHA scenarios

Now that Tech and Mankato proved me wrong by helping the Sioux out, I would like to see Denver and CC tie on Friday while the Sioux win. That would put the Sioux tied with Denver for 3rd and ahead of CC by 3 points. How would the tie break with Denver play out if that scenario took place?
  18. Didn't St. Cloud just get beat and tied by a struggling Wisconsin team?
  19. I sent an email to the Ralph earlier in the week to see if they would have the games on in the concourse at the High School Hockey tournament. Still haven't got a response. You would think they would want to get more people at that game for a better gate by getting people that want to see how the Sioux are doing too.
  20. Exactly! Sometimes it's not too bad to have a few players with something to prove.

    WCHA Refs

The only thing I really want in officiating is consistency. I told my friends on Saturday that I didn't mind that Hunt put his whistle away, especially in the 3rd period, because he was consistent in letting it go both ways. The thing that bothers me is the type of officiating that went on in Minneapolis a month ago. Call it both ways and I'm good.
  22. I thought it would be interesting to guesstimate what would happen if... Sioux win all 4 games -- They would finish second, barring CC running the table. win 3 and tie -- Still probably finish second. win 3 and lose -- probably finish 3rd Win 2 , lose 1, tie one -- 4th place finish Win 2, lose 2 -- 5th place finish anything worse -- on the road. Of course the finish would depend totally on which teams the Sioux beat or lose to in the final 4 games, but that would be my guess as to where they would finish. I would like to depend on Duluth, Michigan Tech and Mankato helping the Sioux out, but I'm not going to hold my breath on that, even though I was impressed by Duluth's fight last weekend and Mankato's the weekend before. What do you think will happen down the stretch?
  23. I believe right now CC owns the tiebreaker, which is down to most wins.
  24. Definitely need to win the last two games, but if the Sioux and Augie did tie, who would get the top seed? I know the Sioux beat Augie pretty good, is that the first tie-breaker after head to head?
  25. Don't know if it's right or not, but my media guide says St. Cloud plays at Wisconsin.
