  1. The problem is that the NCAA is basically becoming a monopoly because there are no viable options. They have shown that where big bucks are found, they aren't about to rock the boat with ethical concerns. The fact that the NCAA let 5 of Ohio State football players play in their Bowl game last year testifies to that. If the Bowl sponsor wouldn't have had a problem suspending the players, they would have been suspended. But since they raised a stink the NCAA put ethics to the side.
  2. If this truly is a sport on the grow, it would be better to get in on the ground floor and establish a reputation like we have in hockey, rather than being a laggard and catch up, especially if bigtime schools become interested in adding it. If we have to wait for a game to finish before we watch an NCAA hockey game, we might as well get familiar with the sport.
  3. Shouldn't that mean that nobody within the NCAA should ever go to the Mayo Clinic? That's right, they just want to tell other people what's offensive.
  4. I was surprised to hear the other day that the NHL owns the rights to the name Jets or something like that and the franchise would be called the Manitoba Moose. I find it hard to believe though that they wouldn't allow them to be the Winnipeg Jets again, simply for name recognition. Anyone else hear this?
  5. Yeah, then we could have the "3D" line. If they look like they are right in your face, it's because they are.
  6. Since they approved, can Florida State fans do anything they want and have no fear of reprisal? Tomahawk chop- O.K., War paint - O,K. Flaming spears -O.K. Mock scalping -? Get real NCAA!
  7. If he stays and is as consistent as he was this year, he has Hobey potential, and he won't have a past to work against him like Frattin did.
  8. I guess my question is when is the sunset on the Alerus Center sales tax? Wasn't that a 20-year deal? With the excess sales tax collected in many years, they should have been able to pay that off early, unless they are using those funds for some other reason that the voters didn't have a chance to approve. Nevertheless, why can't the City practice the same budgeting that it's citizens do, and wait until they pay off one thing before they take out a loan on another, especially when nothing is going to fall apart in the meantime. If you keep increasing the sales tax before any sunset happens, you run the risk of losing some business from outlying areas.
  9. I am with you. The people that put percentages on how likely a person is to sign without knowing that person is just guessing, so why put percentages on it? I tend to get a bit skeptical of people who are so sure of a certain outcome -- much like those that were so brash in the media and fanbase that thought there was a zero percent chance the Sioux would lose to Michigan. Do you hear that Austin Schauer (sp.) ? The funny thing is that people don't learn from previous experiences.
  10. Everybody else is wrong and I'm the only one that is right. Hmmm, sounds to me like somebody needs counseling. Might want to be a bit introspective and ask youself the question, "Is it everybody else, or is it me?"
  11. There is an article in today's Grand Forks Herald about Thompson and Gage Ausmus accepting invitations to the NTDP. Hopefully they can continue to develop and become Fighting Sioux ... or whatever the nickname is at that point.
  12. I think Michigan's success against our powerplay and our lack of success against their penalty kill gave Michigan the confidence that they would at least be in the game. Everybody knows how you win postseason games, goaltending and special teams. It may just be the players gripping their sticks a little tighter, or Michigan might have game-planned our powerplay very well. The disappointing thing for me is that the Sioux had two players with outrageous point streaks and not to score one goal really makes it more difficult to take because of that alone.

    2011 Frozen 4

Yes, pretty good indeed, for a one-line team!
  14. The thing about goaltending is that you can be on the best roll ever, and stumble for one game, and it is literally game over. The Sioux can attest to that over the past several years just about as well as anybody.
  15. I was told that at past Frozen Fours you could leave after the first game and possibly sell to someone else for re-entry. I know at the Final Five you had to get your hand stamped and still show the ticket for re-entry, so I assume that is what they will do for the Frozen Four. I sometimes wonder why the NCAA doesn't just make it two sessions and add to the price of the tickets. You would think that for Frozen Fours like in Tampa next year, it would be easier to sell packages if the buyer could possibly sell one of the sessions to some fans of another team to make it a little cheaper. Really why does the NCAA care if people leave after the first game and sell their ticket for re-entry to the second game -- they made their money anyway. and you make fans of all the teams happy because you can get more in the door for their teams game.

    UMD fans

Once again, I think you can say the same about any fanbase. Every fanbase has their fair share of bad apples. Just like every fanbase has those who can't/won't give their opponents any credit and will default to stereotypes to degrade the other teams success.
  17. It would be nice if he could watch the Sioux in person at the Frozen Four to see the following the Sioux have, rather than playing in a 2/3 full arena with little atmosphere.
  18. Wow with a username of Drunkhockey guy, he must be cool! Take a look in the mirror guy.
  19. Jordan Schmaltz is leading all defensemen in the USHL in points and goals. Nick Mattson is tied for second in points for defensemen. Schmaltz seems to really have hit his stride and will only get better with another year in the USHL.
  20. Why do people respond to your posts the way they do? Read your posts and ask yourself if they don't come across as arrogant or unbelievably sarcastic.
  21. Even when they show the spot shadow the puck is coming out of the net before you can tell if it was all the way over the line. It wasn't under the goalie pad at that point, so common sense isn't part of the equation. You can see black, but you can't see white between it.
  22. There was a reason why NDSU felt the need to get out of Division II, and it was because it was getting watered down by schools who didn't want to, or wouldn't spend the money to be viable teams. If you start adding the same type of team to the WCHA, you run the risk of having a perennial doormat that won't spend the money and is a Division 1 program in name only. You don't think that the Big Ten schools will recruit players and point that out to every recruit?
  23. Any of the other first round games going to be shown on ESPNU?
  24. Exactly, there were those on this board that said Davidson was going to be gone after his first year here without playing time. You never know what is the most important for certain players, and what will cause them to leave.
