The one thing that has impressed me is that Berry doesn't seem to have lost this team. Yes, we lost Saturday against Western Michigan, but what I saw last weekend had me thinking we could really make a run, as the players seemed all in. The Scheel injury has really put a damper on that for me though. Here's hoping for the best possible news.

The article talking about older recruits seems a little odd, considering a great number of our current players have played a year or two of juniors and came in with a lot of junior experience.
-
In the same token, you should see why people have concern, with numerous other things that have happened that have never happened before. The fact that we will finish lower in the NCHC than we were projected to finish for the 3rd straight year is concerning to me, but I'm not ready to pull the plug. Next year will be a tell tale for me, especially if none of the talented freshmen put up any numbers, because that would suggest to me there is more going on than just talent level.

I like our forward recruits coming in next year compared to Duluth's, but obviously recruits can surprise. Luke Mylymok only has 3 goals, 8 assists in the USHL, Jake Hale had 0 points and appears to be with Minot now, and Luke Loheit has 8 goals, 16 assists in the BCHL. If we had guys coming in with those numbers, we would be in all out panic mode. Not sure if they have someone else coming in that wasn't on Heisenberg or not, but they definitely would have probably taken Ryder Donovan next year. Again, as with Mark Senden, stats can sometimes be deceiving, but I like the look of our recruits going forward.

Just because you come off like that, doesn't mean you need to project it to someone else.
-
Meaning, you don't think Wisconsin will be good next year?
-
I guess we’ll see, but the slow approach could have included a year of Juniors, but I would have thought that would be determined partly by his draft status.
-
I think there is still a gap in the level of skating and puck sense from team to team and player to player. If you get some girls that have their head down, and get caught by a good skater, it could get ugly.

I remember getting to UND’s men’s basketball games at halftime of the women’s game for decent seating. At first it was very hard to watch, but gradually it got to the point where I enjoyed it as much as the men’s game, if not more. I would have loved if UND women’s hockey could have been viable financially, because watching Hockey Day Minnesota, I see a lot of improvement, and can envision the day that the Kendall Coynes’ won’t be an outlier, and more and more girls watching Jocelyn’s amazing Olympic winner will be inspired to up the all around level of girls and women’s hockey. It won’t happen overnight, but the skill is getting better.

The thing I wonder about Donovan, is what happens if he sits quite a bit behind Wisconsin’s ultra talented freshmen forwards and what they have coming back? Can he fulfill a job as a role player, and if not, does he bolt for Major Junior if he is drafted relatively high? He obviously wants to play college right away, but is he going to accept the decreased time if he struggles?
-
It is gradually getting a lot better. Yes Kendall Coyne is a bit of an outlier, but more and more women are skating pretty well because of the same summer camps that help the guys improve.

Agree totally, and I think people are happy with a split if not for the debacle against Canisius and Saturday’s game here against Western. I think we have done quite well with effort lately, but it’s a big hole to try climb out of now.

You need to see a few down years so you can truly appreciate the good ones.

https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/hockey/4572541-adam-scheel-goes-down-injury-unds-loss-western-michigan You guys could very well be right. Haven't looked at Schlossman's other stories where he talks about injuries hitting the team, but he didn't mention JJ in this one.

Looking at the forwards in future recruits, it looks like they are getting to the point where they are getting weighted more to the grinder/role player or ones that, based on junior experience may not be offensive impact players at the next level. Of course that is always impossible to tell, but if you aren't scoring in juniors you probably aren't going to go off in college. I put, Gaber, Stratton, Costello, Schmaltz, Ness, Montgomery and Albrecht into that category. I think Randklev and Mancinelli could be scorers in college, but wouldn't say that would be a sure thing. Then you have guys that could become elite, with guys like Pinto, Caulfield, Rizzo, Blaisdell, Halliday, Kunz , and Bowen. Since the four we have coming in next year have the potential to bolt after a few years, I hope we get more in the pipeline for a few years down the road. I know that James has great potential, but that is years down the road. I really like all of our defensive recruits, and just about all of them look like they can add some offense, but I sure don't want to get caught without high end forwards because a few of them bolted, and a few of them didn't pan out like they were projected to.
-
Don't think Brad Berry would use the word "dream player" about a guy who had a bad attitude. Of course he then added he would like to see more offense out of JJ.

Tomek hasn’t impressed much at Omaha either.

What does this post have to do with hockey?

Or maybe Nashville wants to monitor Mismash’s injury rehabilitation in another place in Major Junior. We can all just speculate, but to me it doesn’t hurt having more people on the roster since there have been plenty of times we’ve had to shift defensemen to forward. I know they have a certain number of players for the ideal roster, but if it puts you short handed, it isn’t ideal.

When he committed he was. He was playing for Minot Junior team with Jon Lizotte. So with your philosophy, no Connor Gaarder, no Stephane Pattyn, etc.

https://www.sjhl.ca/news_article/show/995824 Don’t think it’s strange at all. With all the young guys coming in next year, they want another older player with compete in case the younger guys take a while to play both ways, like with Adams. I like that he is a Captain, skates well, and competes hard. Sounds like a model citizen as well, so should be coachable. Obviously nobody knows how he will turn out, but Senden and Keane are playing better than some of the guys who were supposed to be scorers. I think St. Cloud finds under the radar guys like Blake Lizotte that turn out to be gems. There are guys from the other leagues that just need a chance to shine. Don’t know if we win the NCAA Championship in 2016 without a guy from the same league in Coltyn Sanderson.

What reason was that?

Canisius wins! Canisius wins! Canisius wins!

Wonder if Berry puts the whole problem with the power play as execution. Will he make changes a year too late like Bubba Schweigert did, costing us a chance at success. Even when they score on the power play it isn’t from sustained zone time. It doesn’t pass the smell test, as even when Western didn’t score last night, it seemed like every power play they were all over us.
