  1. Rather than negatively recruiting, I would just tell him the great benefits of our program with the facilities, league, coaching staff and full-house of passionate fans every night. Mention the number of players that played professional hockey this year and how many of them still come back as part of the family. If the player brings something up about other schools, I wouldn't hesitate to reiterate the difference on how things are run here, but our success and tradition should stand on its own. You definitely could say that you will be their head coach, and ask if that is going to be the case at other places they visit. It certainly wouldn't hurt to say things you do as a coaching staff and things you don't do without mentioning schools, as you already know who your competition is, and it doesn't sound like you're attacking but just stating your philosophy. Some kids and parents are turned off by negative recruiting, but I suppose it works in some cases much like negative campaigning in elections. I guess I am one that just prefers selling yourself more than ripping on the others, except when Minnesota is involved.
  2. You expected sanity when dealing with Dave K?
  3. http://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/4271430-how-und-happy-go-lucky-guy-became-key-player-penguins-playoffs Very interesting article by Schlossman on the emergence of Carter Rowney. Especially interesting is the fact that his rookie class both he and Dell were the only two players that weren't drafted and they are the only two in the NHL. Also thought it was interesting that the coach of Grand Prairie called the coaches and told them he was a North Dakota type of player. Kind of goes to show you that all the gnashing of teeth over the talent or lack thereof coming in on any given year doesn't really reflect how things will turn out in the end. Could definitely use a few more 4-year players like Carter Rowney.
  4. The last I saw this thread is about uniforms.
  5. Here are the odds before the playoffs began. http://www.espn.com/chalk/story/_/id/19128839/nhl-2017-stanley-cup-odds-16-teams-made-playoffs
  6. I don't know, 3 of the 4 teams remaining before the playoffs began were probably thought to have needed a few more pieces as well. Most people thought that Ottawa would be the first Canadian team out of the playoffs. We'll see what happens the rest of the way, but it could be that the team that wins it wasn't even in the conversation about the Stanley Cup before the playoffs began. Does anybody have the odds for each team before the playoffs began?
  7. Agree. If this happened to multiple players leading up to a National Championship game, you can guarantee they would be lambasted, as well they should. If you are part of a team and can't stay away from this, then that's a problem.
  8. https://www.hockeycanada.ca/en-ca/news/2017-rbc-cup-rtrc-penticton-vees Under players to watch, it appears that Jones is a prototypical Sioux. Gotta love that description. He might see more ice time than most assume. We'll see if he can crack the lineup on a consistent basis. Being a Junior, he certainly has experience under his belt.
  9. Let's see, you can't even spell our former coaches name right, and you expect us to believe you were this huge UND hockey fan, and not just a troll. If this was GPL you would have been gone long ago.
  10. We knew we had to win one to get in this year against possibly the two best teams in the country, but attendance wasn't the best it has been.
  11. If they want more weaving in and out of traffic, go ahead and reduce the speed limit even further.
  12. Yes, people aren't driving fast enough so reduce it even further. So if we get everyone to drive faster can they increase the speed limits? How can anybody think the speed limits in this town need to be reduced?
  13. When you're a 70 year old troll, you've obviously got serious problems.
  14. Jeff McClean and Kevin McKinnon did it as well.
  15. I am surprised that a lot of programs that are middle of the road in all their sports don't dump their biggest money drains to become more competitive in a few sports.

    2017 Season

I think he just wanted to be around when they play the Bison again, so he took a year off.
  17. At least it was an opinion piece so that's his opinion, no matter how illogical it seems. It really bothers me when it is supposed to be a straight news story and only one half of the argument is put forward, which is becoming more and more common these days.
  18. Apparently not completely because like I said he led the team in scoring after they left.
  19. So Berndsen could have played a number of places, yet she didn't have a single point? If I were her, I would keep my mouth shut and not draw attention to my lack of production.
  20. We had a run of guys that chose not to come here after committing from the development teams, so maybe that is a change of philosophy unless you are certain what you are getting. We also used to get a lot of players from Shattuck, but that has changed as well. Would be nice to see a list of players we had from the USA development program, as I think there were as many no shows as ones that played here.
  21. Would guess the salary cap would make that very difficult because Oshie should be due for a big payday. That probably goes for the Wild as well.
  22. Of course he was helped by Oshie and Toews, but their numbers were improved by each other also, and Duncan did lead the team in scoring after they were gone.
  23. http://www.grandforksherald.com/news/4254904-herald-announces-reductions Where is Schlossman's outrage on these reductions. While he is off covering a Frozen Four that UND wasn't a part of, the Herald was planning job cuts. Wonder how they found out they lost their jobs?
  24. I stand corrected. I was under the impression they were both sons of Dennis. I wonder if Grant has any ties to UND then, other than living in Grand Forks.
  25. Would guess he is holding out to play for UND and UND would like to see him play at the Junior level like his brother did before they commit. I would guess he has had some offers, but that is strictly speculation.
