That is true at any level

John didn't see much time in the backfield in the 2nd half and really only seemed to be returning punts. Not sure if he was tired, injury or they just wanted to see what Brady could do. There was one or two pass plays to Brady that happened when John was in early.

UND- 17 MSU-15 UND holds them on a two point conversion with 1:41 left in the game.

DL getting penetration wil help. Against USD they did ok holding the line but we need them to get into the backfield. Against USD the RB and QB were getting to the line of scrimmage before being contacted and then falling forward for a gain of 3-4 minimum. Also, maybe reduce the DL down to church we the "B gap" and let the ILBs cover outside. Not ideal for a pass rush and contain but I feel better trying to get a team to 2nd and 8 or 9 vs 2nd and 5 every series like USD was.

We cannot install a 4-3 defense in 4 days while trying to game plan bs an opponent. Have to roll with what we have and our defensive line have to play huge this week.

With the youth at LB I think there is plenty to learn

I think after yesterday you see a bunch of comments about the team. This team was not ready to play. The coaches were out schemed. And when the players were in the right spots they didn't finish. Schmidt needs to find some way to play with what he has if this is a team that finishes better than .500 in conference.
-
Also the inexperience, of our four starting LBs yesterday- 3 of them were starting their 3rd game and 1 starting his first. Its just not a good makeup for a defense designed around its LBs. Our offense can't afford efforts like yesterday. They need to sustain drives and get some points.

If our WRs could have caught a cold in the first half that would have helped. Defensively, anyone notice any plays from the OLBs? Me neither cause they knew running at a ILB combo of two former walk one would get them all the yards they needed. Not a good match up for us yesterday with the health/make up of our LB corps. 200/210 lb running backs and a 240 lb QB running at 190 lb linebackers in a defense designed for LBs to make tackles doesn't seem like a win for the defense

USD has a bye next week. I think they will be ok. If Streveler stays healthy, they will be ok this year. Then run/pass option plays they run with him will be tough for anyone. They have designed a nice offense around him.

I don't believe we forced a punt in the first half. It was out of hand already need plays with John in the slot. Why can't we throw the 3 yard hook route to him and let him work on a db in space like every team does to us
-
How many plays did we have today? How many carries do you take away from John? He played well today.
-
We havent run a lot of offensive plays. Utah and today were a ton of 3 and outs. Need to find a way to get Santiago in the slot for the other backs to get carries. John played well today.
-
Problem today was not separation. The first half they couldn't catch a cold. How many drive extending drops did they have? That combined with the announcers making it sound like Keaton missing some checks and the passing game (along with the offense) sucked.

Out played, out coached. Total ass kicking today.
-
Some of it is patty cake but not sure what you expect when our LB crew barely averages 210 lbs. More nail than hammer there
-
Our cb play..... dont even know what to say anymore.
-
Did we practice this week? Not looking ready to play
-
We better figure something out. USD sees the weak link up the middle. Running right at our ILBs when they need yards.
-
Tough one to pick. I'll go: UND-28 USD-27

My gosh, they must have been drinking all day yesterday with some of those posts. I'm predicting a big game from #11 for UND.

Our young LBs and cornerbacks will get tested today. I am confident in our CBs, the youth and makeup of the LBs worries me a bit.
