  1. Yet people continue to complain about things like it's Brians fault. I have been a part of the hiring process for over 5 years for a worldwide fortune 500 company and it is similar to this. There are things you can do to get through certain loopholes but you must abide by the process. Trust me when I say Brian is just as frustrated as we are right now.

If he knew Muss was going to be let go even a week prior to the season ending, he could have pulled the trigger. The likely small list of applicants would not have been nearly as important as the additional week, assuming he has a plan.

  2. saw faison on the und extra show...said they "found" more money for the head coach and the assistants but "wasn't easy"

anyone know where this money was found and why it wasnt easy?

If he said it was easy we could all question where it's been the last few years. It could be from the Spirit Campaign, so it would make sense we didn't have it in the past. Or gfhockey's buddies really did pony up.

  3. This is the part of this "search" that has really bugged me... Why can't the applications go straight to Faison? Who would be more qualified to choose the right candidates to move forward, the HR staff or the actual Athletic Director??? I realize they are following university/state procedure, but c'mon, this doesn't really make any sense, as well as the fact that it's taken almost a month to get 9 "candidates" since the job was posted....

Time to look at some of these policies & timelines.

Or why can't points be added up as apps come in? Some of these have been on their desk for a month.

  4. I think it comes down to focus. I look at the team basketball UND has played against Weber St. last year for example. To me its appears when they get focused, they play well. These last few games there has been too much one on one, we are ranked in the 300's for assists this year. You can't tell me other guys aren't open. Jones needs to correct this now before it becomes a habit.

  5. Go back and read it. In that comment there was no mention of BB. It said conf titles and national titles which would refer to BB and FB. Meaning that you can win the head to head every year as long as we have successful seasons and make the playoffs every now and then

    #buttfootball.

  6. Head to head results don't mean much if you don't win another game during the season.

I guess you are saying NDSU would have been a top half football team in the Big 12 this year, since they beat K-State, who finished in the middle of the Big 12.

I think that is a direct quote from Bville.

Good win for FU tonight. UND needs to learn to win on the road.

  7. The SIU offenses haven't been explosive under him, but have been pretty consistent--mid-20's to 30 ppg and mid-to-high 300's per game in terms of yardage. Pretty balanced between run and pass. Knowing how Lennon prefers to be conservative on offense and rely on defense, special teams and field position, I'm not surprised SIU hasn't had especially explosive offenses. UND was much the same way until the two years with Chappell and Dressler. I don't know how they've ranked in the MVFC, or how they compared to Lennon's first couple of seasons.

Keep in mind the defenses they have to play against week in and week out in the MVFC. ;)

In seriousness he's in my top 3 of the applicants who have applied just cause you can't argue his success as a head coach.

  8. I can imagine if NDSU doesn't go internally that they will find some way to break the NDUS hiring rules to get their guy in a fraction of the time UND has...any takers on that bet?

Whoever FU hires is going to have ties to the program. Unfortunately, UND has not had a bunch of guys go into coaching at the college level after they left school. We have also been successful in the past on the field and have not had a real high coaching turnover rate with coaches coming and going. That is going to affect the timeline of the search. I think its more likely the next coach at FU has ties to the program than the bet you have above. I also don't buy the thread started on Bville questioning whether FU is "too good" for some coaches to apply.

In the end- they get a quality coach with ties to the program, we don't necessarily have that luxury unless we hire from SIU and the search may take longer.

  9. That would be the best possible hire for NDSU. He is the architect of the defense, could hire one of his defensive assistants as d-coordinator and could find an O-Coordinator elsewhere that would be as good as Vigen. Would also have a great chance of keeping current players and most of the committed recruits, which they have a few of with FBS offers already.

Also think he would take it if offered. I don't think he left UNI to come to NDSU to be a career assistant.

It is an interesting decision if Klieman is offered. I don't see it as a lock that he accepts. If his aspiration is to be a head coach at the FBS level, turning around Wyoming's defense in a couple seasons will earn him way more recognition than being successful at the FCS level in that same time frame. Also, Vigen has turned into a top notch O-cord. Its not like there are guys as good or better than him just sitting around.
