I asked this before because I don't know, but what are Faison's great hires? Reason I ask is because I have read this comment before.
I don't know about results based but I work with a couple parents of athletes on the swimming and diving team and they are very impressed with their new coach and some of the changes there.
-
Probably a valid concern.
However, I think he would surprise all of us with his staff if he has the right salary pool in place.
^^^^this for Bubba.
Also for what it's worth......
Pflugard's 2013 offense rank- 111
DeBoer 2013 offense rank- 56
-
Here's who the UND QBs are:
PASSING GP-GS Effic Cmp-Att-Int Pct Yards TD Long Avg/G
Joe Mollberg 10-7 117.6 141-241-13 58.5 1729 7 80 172.9
Ryan Bartels 8-4 130.3 116-190-6 61.1 1396 8 75 174.5
15 TDs in 11 games against 19 INTs.
Golladay is a great talent but he relies on those two. He may put up some numbers if he stays, but that is far too dependent on two QBs that...well the numbers speak for themselves-they stunk out the joint-for me to come on here and make that pronouncement with any sort of confidence at all.
If we didn't have an all American WR this year your argument be legit.
Hard to say he won't get recognition with numbers like that when it was proven false this year.

I wonder how many more yards Hardin would have had if he had a running back like Chappel.
-
So in regards to Pflu, a coach gets credit for wins with players he didn't recruit but isn't accountable for those same players troubles cause he didn't recruit them.
Makes sense.
-
really whats the biggest difference bt caruso and deboer....both youngish and from smaller schools with great results...why is everyone so high on caruso but luke warm on deboer?
If Deboer interviews well and gets the job I don't have a problem with him. His teams were always
prepared. I still believe the coordinators and assistant coaches are the key to this hire.
-
And speaking of Bohl, NDSU gets totally blindsided by his leaving, yet they get someone in the job in 7 days, yes, 7 days. Faison knew months ago that Muss was done, and yet we don't have anyone a month after the firing. I can't foresee this dragging on another week or two, but I wouldn't be surprised if it did.
So who on our staff would have you promoted?
-
I'm good with those 3 as a short list...problem is one didn't make the cut (unexplainable as to why) and one didn't apply.
Well said.
The problem I have with this process, besides the length, is that Faison recognized head coach salaries and asst. salaries needed to be improved and found the money. I applaud him for that. However, he now seems to have no drive to put that money to work and go recruit a guy off that list. Its frustrating this has been so quiet.
-
So UND hires this week or next to avoid that scenario only to have the announcement overshadowed by NDSU winning its third FCS championship. Seems plausible...
At this point we can't worry about FU. We need to get a hire to get a staff put together. Allow them to start recruiting and give the returning players a face so we don't lose anymore.

How do you know that's why Tibesar didn't take the position? Is that the same for Bollinger?
And Pflugrad was on Weber State's staff for only one year. Even though Weber didn't hire Pflugrad, they did hire a long-time Utah assistant with plenty of FBS experience. Thinking the coach they hired is more qualified than Pflugrad is perfectly rational.
However, hiring a FCS coordinator with no FBS experience is questionable.
Unless your Tibesar, I know nothing more than you. I would assume since the NFL is the pinnacle of playing, and coaching, he's not coming back to UND. As for BB, there have been multiple ideas why he's not interested stated.
Pflugard should have at least been a finalist at Weber and wasn't.
-
Who would have thought UND having a winning football program would be a headache? I guess the hockey only people would maybe think that...
The more I analyze/correlate the on-the-field results and the expectations of some "supporters", the more I think mediocre is all UND football has to look forward to in the DI era. Possibly reasons why ex-associates, like Tibesar and Bollinger, don't even look twice at the job.
Hockey. Hockey. Hockey. Canada. Canada. Canada.
I'll save the rest until the actual hire is made. I digress.
Tibesar wasn't interested because of his current position, had nothing to do with the current state of the program.
While I'm not sure what to think of the potential hire, the fact that Weber St. passed on Pflugard is more alarming than what happened at Montana. The guy was on his staff and they had a couple seasons to evaluate him. That is better than any interview. I wonder if Oxbow's sources mentioned anything about any follow up done on Pflugard.
-
NDSU will announce Klieman as Bohl's successor at an 11 AM press conference per multiple sources.
Good hire.
Lesson I take away from this- from this point forward, UND needs to have its next head coach on staff. Or change the process
-
Hoping these guys to stick together and some leaders step up .
-
And if a 1-25 season is viewed as a 'success' in Grand Forks as long as that 1 win is against NDSU...well, frankly, I'm at a loss for words.
It's been stated by many people on this board anything but winning the conference tournament is a disappointment this year.

Eastern Washington moves on. Will face Townson next Saturday.
-
I'm hardly an SU 'fan,' but it's hilarious seeing folks here put down an NDSU win over Notre Dame while defending UND losses to Pacific and Bowling Green, two universities that most Sioux alums couldn't even find on a map.
And FU fans ignore the 20 point loss.
-
Nice win for the ladies today. Another Super Bowl victory.

FU fans come back here desperately begging for attention again. Good win vs Notre Dame. Still doesn't change the 20 point convincing loss from earlier.

How do you know that subsequent success at UMD wasn't because of Bob Nielson, who now already has a head coaching job. Bottom line is Bubba was not at Duluth when they started winning titles.
So how many years do you give the new head coach to right the ship here?
-
Also, of all the applicants, Bubba is the safest hire. We all know what we are getting with him. The wild card is the offensive staff he brings in. The risk or chance as you put it is limited with him
-
Although Bubba would be a solid hire, he definitely wouldn't be a sure thing or exceptional hire. He would have to prove he can lead a team as a head coach. When at UM-Duluth, he only had a .500 record. Saying his recruits went on to have success is just extreme sugarcoating. I'm not convinced because he has a mediocre head coaching record and a passive personality. He would need to prove himself in my opinion, and I'm not comfortable with taking that chance in terms of this hire.
I'm not 100% sold on bubba abut his recruits did go on to have success. It's not sugar coating, it's based in results.
-
FU overwhelmed CC in that first half.
-
Do we know that the eventual coach is already on the list?
No, but gut feeling says he is.
-
With the open records law in place, which coach would have applied for the job before their current season ended? An additional week is not worth hiring from a list of weak candidates.
Which coach on that list would not have applied if last week was the deadline?
The next coach of UND football is....

I'm sure he was misquoted Sic. Silence will be the sign of whether it was found or not.
