By this logic NDSU should not have moved up to FCS when they did. They were an average DII program and the move to FCS gave them a shot in the arm to gain a recruiting advantage at a time they had none based on field performance and results and injecting some excitement back in the fanbase. Their coaching and players helped build on that the next few years. Positioning ourselves to move up is about not repeating history and lowering the perception of our programs by not being ready for change the last time around. Other than additional scholorships, the recruiting footprint or travel budget do not change. It is in classification only and fan perception only. The 2nd one being the biggest deal.

EWU will be good this year but tough not to put FU at #1.

Bubba's assistant coach budget got a bump though.

With the current investment in facilities, no reason to go back to the third highest division.

Good update on Chris in the newest SiouxFootball blog. Said his great technique and past coaching make up for being 5'9". All indications are he's playing this year. Edited with the link: http://siouxfb.areavoices.com/2014/08/07/freshman-who-may-not-redshirt/

Good athlete and real good kid. Originally from Texas, family relocated with the oil. Moved to Dickinson last year.

I thought North Dakota was outside the conference footprint and travel costs were too high for other teams. Unlikely these teams would want to travel to ND twice.

Its August, he was just checking in to see how recruiting went in February.

Well said. I have no idea if what Fullerton is proposing is even possible but he seems to agree with what the gentlemen from Eastern Kentucky is saying and is working to provide a solution to the issue. When you are a school in one of only 3 conferences in the west playing football, you don't have a lot of options to move up. On the FU board they say eventually a conference will look past travel costs to add "the next Boise St./new ESPN media darling" to their conference. That they believe that is laughable. If schools need to start paying additional money to players outside of scholorships, they will be looking to cut costs, not add them. You can't fault Fullerton by looking for a solution for his schools who would like to move up and get a share of the money in the article. One could even argue that PAC12 and Mountain West teams would pay more for non FCS games as their options are even more limited geographically.

I noticed that line in the picture posted today as well. Had to look at the roster to find out who was in each position.

Time will tell. I don't know how any coaches in a new position will do this year. Do you?
-
We are thin at safety. Aaron Rogers played SS in college, he may add some depth but we need to stay healthy this year.
-
So than why the lack of attention on who will be heading that program?
-
Yeah, replacing Gene Taylor isn't that big if deal. They stayed away from it so applicants were not swayed from applying. Same reason they took such an active interest in UNDs football coach position.
-
Sometimes they don't work out, other times they do. I would take another Braden Hansen in a minute. Everyone has a reason for being here. Either way, welcome to the program.

If you go back to when Class AAA started, one of the 3 (now 4) Fargo schools has probably been in the championship nearly every year. Also, Shanley has put together a nice run and has been playing in the championship the last number of year. Even years when one of the Fargo teams is not in the championship, you have a pool of fans from 4 class A schools in the same city. Most likely two of those schools were playing in the semi finals the week before and will have an interest in the game. Not hard to figure out where the revenue differences are coming from.

Big kid that is lean for being 275. Sounds like an athlete. Welcome to UND.

They will be solid. They have a three year starter back at QB who is athletic and some weapons around him on offense. They put up points on some good defenses last year and going off last year, our defense didn't stop anyone.

I would guess the coaches have invited a specific group of recruits. If you are getting guys you are targeting to this camp, someone who you may not have on your list may sneek on the radar with a good performance if you let guys sign up who want to be challenged.

Brewster has this program headed in the right direction.

People in Williston will buy groceries where ever is convenient, easy and items are available.

Our starting 5 is now legit and we'll have some depth.

It would be nice if we could do yearly home and home with FU every year. It would benefit both schools schedules. Also, I agree with the earlier post, it would be great to get USD and Omaha on alternating years of FU and BU. I wouldn't mind playing those teams yearly. Other than mostly road games, if that is truly the schedule, it will be challenging and is a nice schedule from a competitive standpoint.

I noticed some guys who were mentioned to be gone are still listed- Taj Rich and Marcus Cheatom.

A good question from B'ville- when do we see the list of applicants currently applying for the FU AD job?
