  1. Two things I learned from a very informative conversation. Coach Knaupf is not very high on his OL, he only feels two of them are true D1 caliber players. I assume one of them is Francis, who knows who the other one is. Either way that's pretty telling of what he inherited and what his standards are. Also the coaches are apparently VERY high on Studsrud, I guess we should really keep an eye on him.

They better work at developing the guys in the roster. Really lacked there the last few years.

Also, probably a conversation you shouldn't have posted on a website.

  2. Glad you're happy with the Internet feed as every school has one that can be watched either on a TV or computer. I see we were on Root this year how about you guys? Isn't Root a BSC channel?

Is that why you schedule big sky teams? To have connections to a conference with an actual tv presence.

I'll be able to watch UND from Korea this weekend. I am pretty happy with the internet feed.

  3. Bison rubes just don't get the difference between satire and serious comments, do you.

If Texas left the Big 12, it definitely wouldn't be for the SEC.  They won't follow A&M to a lower level academic conference:  too much pride.  But they would go to a blue blood conference like the B1G or Pac12.  The Big 12 would backfill then, but it would be schools like Houston, Cincinnati, Memphis, UCF, or USF.

Took me to call total BS on this post before a bison fan even called him on it.

Many in their fanbase have labeled themselves ESPNs media darling.  That is where his reference of "who else would ESPN want" comes from.  There are a few more that pop into my head.

Iowa preps moved McDermott from 17 in July  to 10th. Seales is 6th.  One writer had this to say about Seales.

Iowa Barnstormers & Cortez Seales Make A Run

The one name that I did not get to however, and my breakout performer of the entire event, is 6’4 lefty wing, Cortez Seales. Watching him on a Saturday night affair against Wisconsin Playground Warriors, Seales immediately stood out to me with the way he controlled the ball and his frame at the 2-spot on the floor. He seems to never force the issue, though most of his game and scoring comes from below the arc, and the Iowa guard is more than capable of facilitating and distributing for his unit. Upon walking away highly impressed with the Davenport native, I wanted to make sure that this kid was legit and put his 9:15AM game on my schedule for the following day in being placed up against the Mac Irvin Fire and highly touted wing, Davon Dillard.

What the North Scott High star did the following morning was tremendous; with his team down 47-30 in the first half, the off guard put his team on his back in finishing with 22 points off of 9-12 shooting from the floor, corralled five rebounds, dished out five assists, and turned the ball over just once, and helped his squad come away with a big time W. The Barnstormers had problems with Fire’s Luwane Pipkins in controlling the ball in the backcourt and placed the rock into Seales’ hands in running the show. After Dillard couldn’t slow down the 6’4 guard, Fire placed the 5’8 Pipkins on him in hopefully taking the ball away from the Iowa guard. Unfortunately for the Chicago-based program, the ‘Stormers guard used his bigger body to back the little guard down until he got below the perimeter where he made the appropriate play, making for an even easier time for Seales in controlling the floor.

Seales’ game is all about making the right move on the hardwood and his mid-range game is supremely polished, where he is more than capable of scoring over a contested hand. He can also make others better in the half court and rebounds the ball at a high rate on both sides of the glass. The one knock on his game would be in his 3-point shooting as I only saw Seales attempt one long-range jumper all weekend long, of which he hit to start his Sunday morning game. Regardless the kid has the goods to be a top-150 guy in the 2015 graduating class and deserves further praises. With lone offers from Northern Iowa and Drake, and limited interest coming from North Dakota, Green Bay, and Valparaiso, it would be a good idea of some Big 10 and Big 12 programs to jump on board with the Iowa guard. If Seales’ performances would have come a week earlier in front of the college coaches, the kid’s phone would be a lot busier and his offer and interest list be a bit longer.

    Great article.

  5. But in terms of physical recovery for the defense 3 and a half min of rest and coaching is much more useful than 45 seconds of rest and coaching between series.

If the offense gets no first downs, the actual amount of time the defense is on the sidelines is the same. Only things that change that is a turnover. Play clock is the same whether the game clock is running or stopped.

  6. By playing that way, you're protecting your defense. Occasionally it might lead to three and outs, but when that ball-control mindset works, it runs the clock, wears out the opponent's defense, and rests your own defense.

It's the intent behind the strategy, not the direct results that must be taken into consideration.

You have to get some first downs to change field position.  You can't keep having the other team start at the 35-40 yard line and your own offense starting inside the 20 yard line and going 3 and out.  Just running the ball is pointless if you can't move it.

  7. What makes you think a kid "won't fit" based on geography. Depends on the kids academic needs and how mature they are etc. No matter what some people think, we have to go outside of our former recruiting areas to find players. Florida has a lot of them. These twins look like great prospects.

Winning also tends to keep players happier away from home.

  8. UND will return back to Grand Forks Saturday for a game vs. the Stony Brook Seawolves (1-2).  Stony Brook is currently 1-2 on the season and is coming off a 20-3 win over American International.  In that game, Stony Brook had two 100 yard rushers and held American to 2 yards per carry.

This will be the last of four non conference game for both teams.

  9. Article has ties to UND on multiple levels.  Most importantly, Missouri St. will wear a new black jersey on Saturday evening for the new stadium opener.

Second, they just signed a apparel deal with Adidas.  As part of the deal they got alternate home and away uniforms to go along with their standard colors.  Could this mean we see an alternate black and grey next season if the rumored deal with Adidas goes through?

  10. Not sure if our offense has the horsepower yet.  I think our defense continues to improve and forces a few more turnovers.

Game is close, offense turns it over a couple times and they get some short fields.
