  1. I am very glad the running back they had for the last few years who was the Maryland transfer is gone.  He was a hell of a back.  I think this is one game where the offense surprises us and carries the defense a little.  Game is a little closer than we like, but its a win.

    UND- 27

    PSU- 24

  2. You guys should be redirecting your anger towards a certain punter/kicker who became ineligible over the summer and completely F'ed over the entire team.  He would have been kicking the field goal and more than likely made it.  BTW, the hold was bad and the timing was completely off.

Blaming a true freshman who was not prepared by the staff to be the kicker until week 3 of fall camp (due to above-mentioned player) is pretty low, IMO.  The kid has done fairly well considering he shouldn't be kicking in the first place.  Oh, and the true freshman holder is the walk-on punter who also should not be playing due to above mentioned player.

I don't know about you guys but I sucked my first year at my current work.

No one blamed the kid directly but it was a factor in the game.  He has been really solid for us this year and I am not dumb enough to think he was going to bury every kick this year.  Everything is a learning experience and this will be no different.

However, the kick has to have a chance.  You may have been bad your first year at work but your boss still expects you to do the basics correctly.

  3. A lot of blame is put on Kelley for trying to curtail the student section drinking but you also have to look at the crowd around the student section. Kelley is responding to complaints from old fogeys that incessantly complain that students are being students.

The students that were at the game this past weekend vs. Montana were awesome.  When they started chanting the kickers last name (Sully) during the timeouts before the final field goal, I was laughing.  I sit right next to their section and they did not give that kid a break after the first missed FG.  That is the reason I do not want to move that section.  I'm hoping with the return of an exciting defense and a competitive team, attendance comes back (throughout the entire stadium).  The ones who were there last week seemed to be enjoying themselves.

  4. Did they play last year? I don't think so. The only way to achieve a 5-6 touchdown gap is to actually play the game and beat the other team by 5-6 touchdowns. Projecting what you think might happen if they played doesn't count. Sorry. Just another example of why NDSU football has the most arrogant fans of any pro or college team in any sport.

Remember who you are dealing with. To steal a quote that is again fits this particular FU poster, "the way things are right now is the way they will always be".

  5. Definitely not. Schmidt has proven to be one heck of a defensive coordinator. Why were some of these guys not playing more last season? I believe Labat was injured, but I'm wondering how Rattelle wasn't starting, and Rich and C. Brown were basically not playing at all?

I kept thinking about this yesterday. How could C. Brown not get a shot last season? How did the coaches develop him this much only working with him last spring and fall? Our player development was really lacking under the previous staff. I'm excited CBrown is only a junior.

  6. But they really were wins in UND fans minds. Maybe, just maybe, Montana didn't bring their A game because it was a game they should have won easily and UND was thinking this was a big game for them. They also left their best receiver and tight end at home and their best (and by a long way their best) QB got hurt and left the game early. Montana didn't look to be into the game just like NDSU didn't look to be in the WIU game today.

I know UND fans like to make fun of the "It's the Super Bowl for whoever is playing NDSU" thought, but it is. Just ask the Montana coach. Before the NDSU game, he said he could say the NDSU game is just another game but he would be lying. A couple of players from Western Illinois said before the game this week that a win against NDSU for be a program changer.

The real test for how far UND has come is later in the season when they are playing an Idaho State or Weber State or Northern Colorado, teams that will have no reason to overlook UND or take a win against UND as a given.

Did you watch the game today?

Every team has players hurt right now. It's football.

We only make fun of FUs fan base saying they are everyone's football in every sport.

  7. EWU holds on for a 56-53 win. I see little chance they go far in the playoffs with that defense.

It's the one defense that our offense might play well against from start to finish.

If we stay healthy and stop killing ourselves, it's not unrealistic to think this team can't run the table.

  8. Montana fans over on AGS, along with Bison fans (ignore them) are saying the hit on Johnson was a cheap. Shot. The replay showed yes it was a roughing the passer but in no way was it a cheap shot. Any other thoughts on this?

There was nothing cheap about that. Late and stupid but Ratelle plays hard.

  9. But they didn't beat a bad UConn team, and the fact the SB defense played well vs a bad FBS team (or a bad UND offense) doesn't make them live up to the hype.

So at what point do they live up to the "hype"?  How long do they need to have the number 2 ranked defense in FCS?  How good does an FBS offense have to be in order for a performance to mean a damn thing?

I have yet to read any hype, only people saying they were a good defense.  If you watched the game, they were big, fast and athletic.  If their offense could throw the ball consistently to anyone but that huge TE/WR, they could as easily have a winning record.

  10. @tommillergf: One more note for tomorrow's UND FB matchup with Montana: NG Shea Walker, LB Marcus Jenkins-Moore no longer with the program.

    Unfortunate.

Unfortunate indeed.  Walker played pretty well against Stoney Brook.  Jenkins-Moore looked the part physically but being away from the game for two years, he never really seemed to look comfortable in the limited reps he had.

  11. If Calcaterra and Solomonson can box out and rebound this season and wisely use their 10 fouls, I am ok with them as an option.

Last year we got killed on the boards. Need more from that spot. Mitch Wilmer like numbers and effort would work.

  12. @UNDMBasketball: The NCAA has granted Terrel de Rouen a waiver to play immediately after transferring from New Mexico State during the summer #BigSkyMBB

Glad to hear.  That is good news.

I'm not sure what our back court will look like this year but it sounds like there will be options and it should be competitive for playing time.

  13. good scoop, Roger!

I just want to get the casual fan back to the Alerus for games.  During the last few seasons, we lost the fan who will buy the walk up ticket.  Bubba has reached out to the community to try and get that fan back.  Roger Thomas getting inducted to the HOF is a chance for UND Marketing to use a familiar name to try and draw a few of those fans back as well.  If they show up and see the quality of football and the effort of the players and coaching staff is changing for the better, they are likely to return.
