  1. UND will have to play a solid game to win.

Need to find a way to get ourselves into 3 and 2 or 3 on offense.  Not a lot of teams win consistently when they are in 3 and longs every possession.  Can't drop passes, can't continually hurt ourselves with penalties.

Force some turnovers on defense and get off the field on 3rd down.  That was very frustrating on Saturday watching how many 3rd downs they converted.  I am hoping Reyes is back.

  2. UND's next opponent is one that is familiar to the UND coaching staff.  UND will travel to Springfield, MO to take on the Missouri St. Bears of the MVFC at 6:00.

The Bears are currently 1-1, losing last week to the Oklahoma St. Cowboys 40-23.  http://www.missouristatebears.com/sports/m-footbl/recaps/090614aaa.html

Hopefully we are healthy for this one.  Missouri St. is a middle of the pack MVFC team but always plays the top of the league very tough, especially when they are at home.  They are a pretty balanced team, averaging about 200 yards a game passing and rushing the ball.  They have a pretty good, dual threat QB that could give us fits.

  3. OL needs to improve. If we can't run the ball, it doesn't matter who the qb is. They didn't respect the run.

That being said, out wrs need to get off the line and Molberg needs to make some throws he missed yesterday. He's doing a better job pre snap this year (so far) but has to start showing some touch.

Shags averaged 19 per carry yesterday. He should have got a couple more reps.

  4. Any other way to get a yard sign? Saw people begging for them after the game tonight. I could get five in my Fargo neighborhood if available. Should be more in the yards in Grand Forks.

  5. Was at game...9118 in attendance.

This team already tackles better than any Muss squad.

    #2O and #94 stood out on D.

Molberg right now is UND's equivalent of Mertens at SU. He was brutal tonight.

Bottom line have to improve running the ball and stopping the run.

    Good post.

I think we have a good group of LBs. #12 and #15 are pretty smooth. The transfer from Kansas must be learning the defense cause he played well when he was in and looks the part but isn't in the field much.

  6. Sure, changes could happen that would allow fcs conferences to join a changed fbs. But the big sky would have no more ability to move than any other fcs conference. Sv's whole lifelong goals is to screw over ndsu, and his judgement is clearly impared. Someday he will be featured on svu, and well know the whole story. Dude is scary imo.

Gene Taylor's life long goal was to screw over UND.

  7. Not me.

RMU is a weak team in a weak league.  Forget where we are in the BSC for a moment, just on an athlete to athlete basis, if UND can't roll this team at home on potato day I can't imagine what the conference season will be like.

    42-13 UND

The coach was fired after a miserable season and the new coach starts his career by getting blown out.

The program hasn't been so low in decades.

If you are seeing arrogance at this website, you are coming here with an agenda.

Nothing wrong with the quote below, I don't completely disagree but what changed in 3 days?  We are as low as we have been in decades but just since we are a Big Sky conference team we should suddenly blow RMU out.  By nearly 30?

  8. Not me.

    42-13 UND

Your going to write off that around 15 of our 22 starters are making their 2nd college start and our depth is very limited behind those starters.

  9. Guys, we should be excited. A game under a new regime that we can really see the progress of the team.

What I like the most is the mindset these coaches have instilled in these men. As some of you may know, my son plays for UND, and I talk to him every single day.

Coaches in FCS have to work harder as do the players. In the BIG 10, for example, they don't like you or they think your not good enough, there is always someone in line just as good. These coaches actually teach. Unlike in the FBS5, they don't teach as much because you have 5 star recruits that are just animals from day 1; I.E., Jadaveon Clowney, Manziel, Hageman, etc. The top tier teams don't recruit, they reload. Also the boosters are out of control.

With that said, this coaching staff seems genuine. The are somewhat humbled because of what they got into, but, at the same time, they are excited because they feel they can make a change. The team is receptive and they work hard. I see ba!!$ on this team. Watching on tv, they did not back down. San Jose beat us because they're talent was more experienced. I say, if would've played SJSU on game 7 it's not 42-10. I'm not saying we win, but it's not a blowout. A few tackles instead of missed tackles, We could've had 2 INT's. I mean, it was just jitters and a few feet away from making major plays.

I'm looking fwd to this season. We are not going 8-3, but I feel we are not going 3-8 either.

Guys, my opinion. Glad to be a part of the SIOUX NATION!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Well said.

  10. Gameday/home opener tomorrow...making the trip up I-29 but was hoping I'd be more excited...................

I'm looking forward to the game just to watch this team in person, do some talegating, etc.  Not sure what to expect tomorrow.  I'm a little nervous on the injury front of who is on the field.  I know Bubba is not going to let these guys lay an egg tomorrow and I am willing to bet there is more effort on the field tomorrow than we saw last year.

I understand the opponent is below averge but we need to use this as a stepping stone to get better.  For me, a decent measuring stick will be the following week vs. Missouri St.  They are an average MVFC team who has a history of playing pretty well at home.

  11. When the State was rolling them out was in the middle of "the dark times" with the NCAA and the name and logo.

Most folks don't want the UND with the flame logo as that's more academics.

The interlocked ND is too easily confused with "Our Lady of South Bend".

People want a popular, unique, recognizable athletics logo. But the "no new name" crowd doesn't believe that.

    This^^^^^^^^^^^^

Another reason we need to get a new name selected and start to build the new brand.

  12. Two updates from Lakeville:

     - Tristyn Hanson will be making the trip to GF for the game against Robert Morris this weekend.

     - In an odd coincidence, Carl Engwall's uncle is the superintendent of schools in the Florida Keys, where the twins George and Henry Jacobsen are from.

Thank you for the updates.  I had to look at highlights of Tristyn Hanson, the kid is a heck of a football player.  I hope he enjoys his time in Grand Forks this weekend.

  13. It's hard to swallow, isn't it?

Not within 35 huh?! You apparently don't know much abouit college football or football in general then.

Yep, all of our FBS wins have come against sub-par FBS teams--how about your wins against FBS teams (and I am not referring to your severasl "moral"/toe-to-toe victories). That SJSU team you got thumped by the other night?!?!? They wouldn't have kept a game against Iowa State within 35.

Yes, that's how pathetic your team is, so maybe you wanna quit bashing one that would hang a 100 on you if it really wanted to--and now, even more, I hope we do next year.

Not because of your players, but because of your POS, arrogant fanbase!!

I didn't agree with MafiaMan's post you responded to but this post is a classic. Did you break any keys typing it?

  14. How much will having Bohl call Kleiman about Montana help NDSU is the better question?

I would be shocked if the Griz keep it within 2 TDs.

Think Bohl and Klieman still talk?

I agree, I don't see this being a real close game.  UMs oline will need to improve in a hurry if they are going to stand a chance.

  15. There is always a darkhorse that does rise up through out the year, I don't know who that is this year.

There are some interesting teams out there to watch.  Villanova took a Syracuse team to the wire that was ranked higher than ISU in a majority of preseason polls this year.  Was that game a fluke? Can SDSU hang around long enough for Sumner to get back to healthy and have a chance at the postseason?  There are east coast teams who recieved multiple transfers during the offseason, as Braden Hanson proved a few years ago, the right fit can win you some games.

My point was, we have watched one week.  There will be teams who improve dramatically from week 1 to week 2.  I watched a special with Mack Brown and Nick Saban and they talked about how you just try and survive week 1 to see what you have in game situations and make adjustments there after.  There will be a lot of teams making adjustments after this past weekend so I am not ready to write off every other team except two after a week of play.
