  1. UND appears to have received a commitment from Mason Bennett. Had an offer from NDSU.

Welcome to UND. He seems to be a very motivated kid and a solid player.

I am very impressed with all three Canadian commitments so far.

  2. You're missing the point, so let me try to explain it to you like I would to a 5 year old.

I made it pretty clear in that post that the "name was going away regardless"

The point is that it's funny how so many thought being admitted into the Big Sky was such a "big win" for UND. And it's even funnier how many posters thought it was such a slam to NDSU to be in a conference so "superior" to theirs. So we had to hurry up and stop trying to fight the name change, or we'd be missing out on such a GREAT opportunity!

The reward? An annual ass kicking in football. Yayyyyy!!! Meanwhile, NDSU is dominating UND in every sports headline the state has. Buuuutttttt hey, our conference is soooo much better! Right?

This has been explained multiple times over, both at the level of a five year old and 65 year old.

UND was bit getting into any conference with the nickname. Getting rid of the nickname was something the school did for the better of all Olympic sports. Besides hockey, those sports needed a home.

  3. Wyoming chews up clock but drive stalls on first possession and settles for FG. Montana not getting much going offensively.

Things have definitely changed in Laramie.

    3-0 Wyoming late in 1st.

Not looking like much had changed in Laramie

  4. Tonights game will be telling.  I think we will see better offenses and defenses this year than what SJSU puts on the field.  They may not both be in the same game.

I don't put anything on comparitive scores from last year.  We have a lot of room for improvement, QB play, O-line play, catching the ball, tackling, turnovers, stupid penalties, the list goes on.  I expect to improve on those as the year goes on but if our tackling, turnovers and discipline improved from last year, I think we will be in this game into the 4th.  I'm really looking forward to this new season and hopefully the passion Bubba and staff bring to the players.

  5. It's humorous how the trolls like yourself were on here all last fall telling us the UND vs SDSU score wasn't meaningful....and now this comment of yours. Priceless.

This. Competitive scores don't matter, than they do. Head to head results don't matter, than they do. I guess it's what best fits his arguement.

  6. That statement based in absolutely no facts whatsoever.

Simply because we want something to be true, and saying it publicly, does not make it so.

You have posted plenty of things about this contract based on no fact whatsoever.  Your post about every game from this point on being in Fargo is based on no facts whatsoever.  Faison being the main driver behind signing the deal is based on no facts whatsoever.

There are a lot of things that make sense about the series.  Financially it makes sense for both schools to continue the game past 2019.  Having the abilitity to offer an experience different from anything to players and fans since 2003, makes sense.  Hopefully, down the road UND can join FU in the playoffs and the game fits the scheduling of two top programs early in the year.  If that happens, that makes a lot of sense.

  7. Again, you are verifying the point which angers many here-this was a stand alone take it or leave it deal-not a series.  Unless there are "series" played in college athletics which entail one team playing on the road, there is no "series" to cancel here.

    That's the point.

Its more of a series now than it has been for the last 13 years.  The games aren't going to be cancelled, if anything after this first contract expires it will become a annual or bi-annual event.  The pressure will be there for it to continue.

Bubba knows that the quickest way to change perception of recruits and casual fans alike is to do it on the field.  That is also why FU fans do not like the idea of the game.  Say what you want about the deal but the pressure to sign did not come from anyone other than the coaches in the football office.

  8. I don't think any reasonable person would have construed the quote to mean permanently.

You've confirmed what many of us were upset about: there were none and are no discussions of a home game for UND with this deal. Not even an informal one.

I will say that under normal circumstances I wouldn't like to give up so much in negotiations based on the hope that a future AD will treat you more equitably, but given how these "negotiations" (i hesitate to call them that since it resembles little more than a hammer and nail) went with GT, an as of yet unnamed AD could hardly treat you worse.

There were discussions, and a home and home wasn't happening. This was a take it or leave it deal. The coaching staff wanted the game on the schedule, the deal was made.

The same reasons that Bubba and staff wanted the game are the same reasons a lot if FU fans are upset any deal was made. Out new staff doesn't have the "oh shucks" attitude of the old one. They were tired of the same old negotiating games and did what they felt they had to do in order to get the scheduling started.

Do you honestly believe a new AD is going to come in and cancel the series? It will be one of the first questions he is asked after taking the position.

  9. There were other quotes I heard during radio interviews, but this pretty much sums up their attitude.

    http://www.grandforksherald.com/content/college-football-return-rivalry-doesnt-seem-excite-ndsu

“We didn’t feel any pressure to schedule this game,” said Jeremy Jorgenson, NDSU’s director of broadcasting. “It helps us fill 2015. It helps us get a start on 2019. That’s the way we’re looking at it. It’s a good business decision for the athletic department. I wouldn’t look into it further than that.

“There weren’t a lot of options out there for us for 2015. This helps us fill 2015. Scheduling out is a two-year out, minimum, process. This process needed finality.”

Both contests — Sept. 19, 2015, and Sept. 7, 2019 — will be played in the Fargodome, ending a 12-year hiatus of the rivalry. Jorgenson said that potential games in Grand Forks are “off the table.”

I've talked with someone near the FU staff and that quote only applies until the new AD is hired. So technically JJ was correct but not because FU had no intentions of not scheduling another game, it's because it will be up to the new AD to be involved with the next round of talks.

  10. all hail faison

good ole boys got reports that bubs was instructed by Faison to say what he said to balance the books

figures as we haven't donate dmuch in recent years

Bubba wanted this game. He was instructed to say nothing.

    Your an idiot

  11. What?! Oh, so a leak only goes to one media member . . . I see.

Usually a "leak" comes from sources inside a dept. Who does KVLY have stronger ties too?

If you want to control the media and what they report, sometimes you give that nugget to keep them happy.

  12. He wasn't the only one to get the leak, he was just "Jamel one the Spot" and got it out first. The rest poured in shortly thereafter, they were just a bit late to the game.

I call information given to the press without being asked and not in the context of a press release or presser a leak, a that is what it was, and it did not come from NDSU.

So someone in the press got the story and gave it to one of their competitors to run with.  Makes complete sense.

I think its as likely that your source at FU is feeding you full of !@#$ cause you were upset they signed the contract.  If UND was going to leak this story, they would have leaked it to a local media outlet who would have had no problem running with it.

  13. I disagree. The first stupid a$$ question asked was to Coach K, and it was "Is this the biggest non-conference game you have ever been involved with" (or something very close to that effect).  You think we want dumba$$ reporters sticking a mic in his face after practice asking that and other questions not focused on Iowa State, our players or the upcoming season.

That's not how NDSU football operates. We are focused and strive for routine . . . not for distractions.

If your acting AD or whoever signed your contract didn't think that this news was going to be a big deal, whether it came out of a press release, a news conference or a "leak" from a Fargo media outlet that has the contract for FU football, he should be let go.  If you football coach, who probably had say in this, thought that it was not going to be news and the media was going to just wait until the season was over, I would be shocked.  He is a much smarter man than that as I know him personally.

If FU didn't want the distraction and the attention that was going to go on with this game, they should have kept avoiding signing the contract.  It is not up to UND to wait for FU to be ready to announce it.  If thats what they wanted, they should have asked for a joint news conference or, Gene could have signed this same contract as it has been in his hands since the week before he left and camp had not opened yet.

  14. Could be, but not to fans in the know. It's not so much the game I didn't want but, rather, the shyte show that comes with it from Forks!!

When the contract was signed, why should UND have to wait to announce it? We have a game a week from today. Get the announcement out of the way and move on.

Plus, the breaking news came from the Fargo media. You sure UND leaked it.

  15. And I'm sure they did. They would much rather play an FBS team but those teams are shying away from them for good reason.

I was unaware you could only schedule one non conference game per season. How does scheduling UND affect their other non conference scheduling. Another excuse
