World Junior Tourney...oshie, lee, chorney, toews
THETRIOUXPER replied to AZSIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
I was just discussing this with a friend and he brought up a good point. St. Louis is a terrible team, hopefully they will spend their money going after veteran free agents, and let their draft picks progress through the current systems they are in. I hope he stays for two, three looks very unlikely. -
I wonder how much of a factor fatigue was. I mentioned this after the first game vs. Norway when the top 2 lines were being double shifted. Then when they started to play more than two lines we had back to back games vs. the Swiss and then a tough game against Canada. One day of rest, then the Czek's. Followed by Russia. One more day of rest, then this latest debacle. That's alot of hockey in a short time folks. That's why I couldn't understand playing the horses so much against a team like Norway and not just rolling 4 lines so that everyone would get a little break during the game.

Well the hopes of a medal seem to be dwindling, any update about TJ from those who are watching or listening to the game?

Like I had said in another post, I thought phil passed up some opportunities to put the puck on net against the czek's. I'm not a fan of phil, but I don't dispute his potential. Based on games I've seen him play I have formed opinions of him. Selfish is not a good term, possibly sometimes his decision making is more the question, shoot instead of pass or vice versa, or maybe trying to create or do too much by himself. Of course I'm childish and immature, so just take all of this for what it is worth, probably not very much.

bearman, quit blaming myself as well as other Sioux fans for holding kessel to a higher standard. We never put him on the pedestal, that was done by USA Hockey, the media, scouts, ect. For someone that is constantly telling others to grow up and act like adults you sure are quick to allude to the level of someone else's intelligence. In fact, I think you're ALMOST, a bigger whiner than slappy. At least he has an excuse being a gopher sympathizer. In any case I dismiss most of your post as incoherent ramblings on how immature and childish other's are that post here. Again, you come here of your own free will if you don't like the OPINIONS expressed simply don't subject yourself to this horrific torture. So go ahead, call me childish, immature, stupid. Add to that list fat, bald, ugly, short, and disrespectful.

I don't think people really dislike phil. I think everyone who knows hockey is aware of phil's talent. However, I think the point people are trying to make is that they bill him as the next "big thing", and sometimes he dissapoints. Is he selfish, probably not, I felt against the czeck's he passed up some opportunities. Does he try to do too much by himself sometimes, yes. That's what I think people mean when they say selfish. Am I a fan of phil's, not really, and I don't see a problem there either. To bearman I say this. Many times people who don't know the game of hockey base a players performance soley on what the stat sheet says. You need to get over the fact that phil had more points than anyone else on Team USA and watch the little nuances that some of the other players bring to the game. By your logic, a player who scores the most is the best player, I'm here to tell you you are very wrong about that. Now call me childish and immature, and whatever else it is that you usually do when someone disagree's with you or presents a point of view that may not be "popular". Keep in mind that you come to this board of your own free will, and if it bothers you what people say about phil, maybe try another, like GPL where people are a little more enthusiastic about him.

I have to agree 100% here, and said so last week. And, of course, I was publicly chastised for my opinion. Oh, well. I think I would add Fritsche to the list of forwards that worked hard, he seemed to be all over the ice as well.
-
No doubt about it. TJ looked like he was having the time of his life last night when they played our anthem. He's giving 110%, and he's hungry for that gold medal. Not to mention proud to be wearing Team USA's sweater in front of his hometown crowd.

Have you watched any of the Russian's games, how do they stack up against teams the US may have already played, or are they above all of those.

A thought just crossed my mind here. The Miracle On Ice was about 25years ago. Now I'm not saying it will take a Miracle, or even the events surrounding this game are the same as 1980, but we will take all the help we can get. This would be a great way to commemorate the 1980 game, by whooping the Russians tonight. Sorry for being so sentimental. I can hear it now, USA, USA,USA. And Al Michaels, "do you believe in miracles". Let's do it fellas.
-
The main thing here is, are we doing all that we can to win this thing ? The most important thing is the US brings home the hardware. I don't know what it is going to take to do that at this point. I do think by playing those top two lines like they have, and only having limited defensive pairings is going to hurt us in the latter stages of this tourney. We played back to back Fri. and Sat., we had yesterday off. Then we hit the ice tonight, and tomorrow if we win, that gets to be an awful lot of playing time without alot of rest. I really hope the boys can pull it together and finish this thing off on a positive note.

I'm glad to see there are others out there, (Sioux Hab-it, Siouxdonyms, BinaIsGod), that share the same feelings about certain players and ice times which I alluded to last week. The proof is in the pudding, and everyone saw it Sat. night. There was lot's of firepower on the bench for a big part of the game, ie Wheeler, and others are some that I noticed. I guess it leaves me wondering, why not try something different, maybe some different faces on the ice, anything. With all due respect to the Canadian fans on this board, I don't think Canada is unbeatable this year. The US definitley has a deep and talented team, why not use it ?

I don't disagree that I am right and you are wrong.

Thank you for being the champion of truth and justice. I was just trying to get a point across to someone else, not trying to rekindle my war with you slappy.

Losing players during the season?
THETRIOUXPER replied to JESUS,family, rutgers's topic in Men's Hockey
Oh my God, Don Lucia has got a hold of Goon's log on and password. -
Thank God you are in no way, shape or form associated with evaluating talent for the NHl. And in particular with the St. Louis Blues. You must have played for Red River, when TJ and the Warriors rolled into the Ralph in Dec. of '03 and he lit you guys up for like 5 pts. or something crazy like that. Either that or you were one of their cheerleaders, (like slappy), and can't get over your team getting manhandled. In any case, it doesn't matter cause you have proven to everone here how uninformed you are.
-
Do you guys remeber that post from last year. I can't for the life of me rember who it was, but it was a great post about invoking the spirits of former players, it talked about the ghosts of players past being cofused as everything in the new REA is 180 degrees off. If any one can find it or if any of the regulars here might have posted it, maybe it's time to bring it back. I apologize for not remebering who authored that, any way its was a great post. Maybe we need some new karma, again.

This is all so reminiscent of last year it's not even funny. I'll admit I don't tolerate stupid excuses for poor performances, but Hack made no excuse for last night. Those are usually made up in the media. I don't know what the answer is. Other than maybe some type of other mtivational techniques. I guess what I'm wondering myself is why #'s 11, 18, and 15 aren't skating together. I'm no coach so maybe I don't understand the reasons for splitting them up. It just seems to me that line works. Also, I have to question power play units and how they derived those particular ones they used last night. I think we still have the talent to field 3 good lines even with the absence of our World Junior players. Am I ready to give up, hell no. Like one of my favorite actors Clint Eastwood said, when times get tough and things look bad, and I mean real bad, you gotta get mean. I mean mad dog mean. Or something like that. But you get the drift, it's time to pull out all the stops and play like there is no tomorrow. Or they can enjoy the west regional from the stands with the rest of us.

The funniest part of this post is, "I am a big UND fan".
-
I know it's not true, thus the smiley face. Even when I'm joking people still think I'm an eh, es, es, h-o-l-e.
-
Hey, maybe we recruited Zach so we could get Jordan ! Sorry, couldn't help myself. JPar's definitely made a name for himself. Especially down the stretch last year and all of this season so far. He's kept us in some games for sure.
-
You come onto this board completely of your own free will, yet it seems that it causes you so much anguish. Why not just find something better to do instead of torturing yourself. I think I'll go home and shove bamboo chutes under my fingernails, self-torture is so much fun.
-
Here we go again. I think you're a bigger idiot than slappy. Even if there was a post about TJ tying his own skates it would still be of intrest on SIOUXSPORTS.COM, I guess. It wasn't just Sioux fans talking about it, it was the game announcers and other media.
-
Sounds like a hard fought win for the boys. Good to see Lee get on the scoreboard. Looks like TJ was doing all the little intangible things last night. Those things that don't show up on the stat sheets are just as important as goals or assists sometimes.
