  1. One problem of switching courts back and forth during the season was brought to the forefront last season. WBB played non-conference in Betty, conference in the Ralph and then back to the Betty for the post season tourneys. Now that is not the reason we lost (with those refs we would of have lost in any arena), it just is not in the best interest of a team to switch courts that often. Especially switching over to the Ralph for the conference games, they get very little practice time to get used to that cavernous background. Just another disadvantage to put up with when UND jumped the gun on this arena issue. BTW, didn't even necessarily need the 5,500 being mentioned, just the 4,000 they conned us into believing would of have been nice.
  2. I'm afraid you're missing a big point here. Building the Betty with roughly one-half of the capacity Hyslop had was stupid, plain and simple. Anybody who has been going to UND basketball games over the past 10-20 years can attest that there have been many, many games with well in excess of 3000 people. It's not an isolated occurrence. During the 1990-91 season, the men averaged 4432 per game. It would have been akin to moving UND football into the Alerus with a capacity of 6000 or 7000. You wouldn't do it. Yes, the atmosphere in the Ralph isn't very good for basketball. But given a choice between too big and too small, it's not a difficult decision from a bottom-line standpoint.
  3. A possibility then could be.....UND/REA thought that the Betty's capacity would never be put to the test as conference games would stay at the Ralph which would give them the capabilities to pull the wool over everyone's eyes. I just wonder how many other things are going to come out over time about the mismanagement of the Engelstad complex.....no wonder hardly any of the originals are left.
  4. How...at least until quite recently, did they quote close to 4,000 as capacity?
  5. For anyone who questioned the ability of the Betty to handle a capacity crowd, got an answer last night...and it failed. For those who stated to quit complaining "our ice cream is too cold".....no longer has a defense. We are not "lucky" to have this arena. In fact, with the scarcity of $$$ for these types of things(athletics, facilites) these days, everyone should be furious, it was one of those nights that only happen one or twice a year with that kind buzz generated. This is when the spotlight is on our program....the rewards of everyone buying tickets and FSC fees.... having people come in a storm from a hundred miles or more to see it...only to be disappointed. I would hate to see if they ever do add bigger bleachers on the ends....it would so crowded everyone would have to sit in their seats at breaks. Especially with the north end now serving as a club lounge, there is very little room to walk around. I can't even imagine if the men's team becomes worth watching again....many people were in and out last night which helped the bathroom and concession lines as people just went home instead of needing use of either of those. One just has to wonder how many fans would of have been turned away it was a Sat. and/or nice weather....lots of ticked off wallets walking away. UND/REA management has failed miserably.
  6. Lake Region had one, I believe Ferguson was his last name, that went to Kentucky Wesleyan about 2 years back that was a solid player, Glas was after him hard. I think he averaged about 17 pts for a good team in one of the better conferences.
  7. New rankings 2-1-06 1. North Dakota 20-0 16-0 2. St. Cloud State 14-1 13-1 3. Minnesota Duluth 12-5 9-3 4. Wayne State (Nebraska) 14-2 14-2 5. Northern State 10-3 10-3 6. Concordia-St. Paul 11-6 10-6 7. Regis (Colorado 16-3 12-2 8. Metropolitan State 12-5 12-3 9. Augustana (South Dakota) 10-6 8-6 10. Minnesota State Moorhead 9-7 7-5
  8. The % of fans would increase by a few points I bet after individual game tickets....also remember how many ticket plans that are split and that are in the names of the local people instead of the Fargoans.
  9. Another sign of strength from the WCHA....6 of top 7 in that poll were WCHA players.
  10. Remember, since the Ralph opened, only a few games(I believe all of them were gopher games), have sold out of student tickets/general admission. They could probably sell sect 307 or 310 as season tickets.
  11. Exactly...day one of BB back in the Ralph, the puckhead-basketballer haters would be back whining.
  12. Question? are the upper deck students being told to sit too, especially being on the two corner sections alot of adults buy ga tickets?
  13. New regional rankings: 1. North Dakota 19-0 15-0 2. St. Cloud State 12-1 11-1 3. Minnesota Duluth 12-4 9-2 4. Wayne State (Nebraska) 12-2 12-2 5. Northern State 9-3 9-3 6. Concordia-St. Paul 10-6 9-6 7. Metropolitan State 11-4 11-2 8. Regis (Colorado) 14-3 10-2 9. Augustana (South Dakota) 10-5 8-5 10. South Dakota 8-6 7 -5
  14. I don't think it has been mentioned, but UMD's All-American Lindey Dietz is out with a knee injury suffered a week ago according to the Duluth Tribune.
  15. Two very different coaching staffs! Miles has immediately improved three straight programs, one has to wonder how long he will stay around the way he can recruit. If he can recruit to Fargo, especially considering they have nothing to play for...who knows what he can do somewhere else.
  16. I've never seen him play....what type of QB is he?
  17. Those original brackets posted by azsioux could lead to another Sioux/Gopher Frozen Four semi match-up again as the west and east regions match up against each other in Milwaukee. I know, wishful thinking
  18. I read where it was a player driving to the net that caused Elliot's injury. I wonder if Eaves went "Holiday Inn" on whomever that player was.
  19. Just another example of how far the NCC men have fallen, only one team would make the regional tourney if play started today. In past years the NCC teams would beat up non-conference competition and have multiple teams with only a 2-3 losses at this time of year. NORTH CENTRAL 1. Northern State 9-1 8-1 2. Fort Hays State 9-1 7-0 3. Winona State 10-4 10-2 4. Minnesota State Mankato 14-3 11-3 5. Nebraska-Kearney 8-2 8-2 6. Mesa State 8-5 6-4 7. Fort Lewis 6-5 5-3 8. Concordia-St. Paul 8-4 8-3 9. Metro State 7-4 6-2 10. South Dakota 10-3 6-3
  20. Exactly, this could hurt UND as much or more than UW, especially being the Sioux do not play them the rest of the regular season. Also especially the games that include teams like Denver who might be on the bubble with the Sioux come tourney time.
  21. I would like to know why there were so many questions about # of seats...the students have not even come close to selling out except for maybe the Gophers. The big series like Wisconsin and Denver had hundreds of empty seats left over for the public to buy. The first thing the students should worry about is getting their butts in the seats. Another point is why the insistence on standing up when 95% of the time they are not saying anything, I think the standing would be much more accepted if they actually were making noise more often. At least 2/3 of them are there to be at the social event of the evening and have no clue. I sat by some students in the upper bowl during the Denver series and he had no clue who Bina or Paukovich was, when he figured out Bina was the one with the broken neck last year, he thought it was a Sioux teammate who had hurt him in practice, btw he considered himself a "big" college hockey fan.
  22. Just make sure we have enough wins to be playing Mar 24-25th at the Ralph and I will be happy.
  23. If there is such a rule, I am sure the REA is way above any minimum # of seats and also could take away all lower bowl seats within their rights.
  24. Hennessey stated on the radio this am that he was trying to get Toews for the coaches show tomorrow night to share his WJC experiences. Hockey will be the only sport tomorrow night as the BB coaches will already be in Omaha.
