2006-2007 ND High School Hockey
soohockey15 replied to ND Hockey Guy's topic in Non-collegiate sports
Ha ha, cmon now. Was this really their Stanley Cup? Was Central's Stanley Cup losing to South in a close game 4-1? That entire post may be the gayest thing I've ever read. This is high school hockey. Not everyone wins, not everyone gets treated equally. Isn't Lives right in saying that its Tyler Swanson and 19 below average players? Are you saying you disagree with that? Or is everything just sunshine and smiles to you? -

I'm not sure how you can say that South is a definative top 2, while you think Red River isn't. Red River has had some close games, but wasn't South tied with Central late in the game? Are you just not taking this in to account? -

So just because RR had a close game you're grouping them into the rest of the pack behind South? Don't disrespect one of the best (if not the best) team in the state that way just because they didnt blow away a team like they usually do. Cmon man we all know that Red River and South are far and away the best in the state. -
Do I even watch the games? Yes, I do, and apparently, Hakstol does too and he agrees in my thoughts. When you are the one of the defensive veterans on the team and you arent dressing in huge WCHA games, umm, I think there might be a problem. Heres the thing with Radke: He thinks hes tough and tries to fight, but woops, no fighting in college hockey. He also tries to be an offensive player, ohhh but not so fast, whenever he tries to create in the offensive end, he usually leaves his d partner hanging and an odd-man rush ensues. But other than that I guess I have no problems with him.
-
Radke was right where he should be, sitting as far away from the ice as possible. I'm glad Hakstol finally saw the light and sat him, lets hope that he stays as a "healthy scratch" the rest of the year. I guess it would be safe to say that I'd feel more comfortable with a folding chair or an orange cone out there, but thats just me.

Will someone wake up Donovan Alexander? Oh wait, he's been terrible all year? Sorry, my bad.
-
Who cares if Lives continually tears on certain players. Is he not allowed to have an opinion, even if it is negative? I agree with some things he says (regarding Finley) and I disagree with others (that he respects Radke's play. Frankly, I think Kyle Radke is the sorriest excuse of a player that I've ever seen, but thats just me). But either way, I'm not gonna whine and bitch about him not seeing the bright side of things. Everyone should quit pouting about his negativity and just accept what he's saying.

Sports Teams Popularity in GF and other ND cities

I think that I would put UND football over the Vikings, it seems like I know a lot of people who dont like the Vikings. The only way the Twins are that high is if they're having a good year. Also, I would drop women's hockey to 33rd, right behind sled-dog racing. Also I think the Wild are a lot lower on the list, I know exactly zero people who are big time Wild fans. -

I'm not at all sensitve about it, I just get annoyed because this is all you ever talk about. It's fine if you talk about it, but you're just beating the argument into the ground. -

Dave do we really have to go through this again. We all know where you stand on this debate. Just drop it. -
Who started that rumor? Mark Kauk?
-
Thank you, Triouxper. I dont know why people need to get so upset over my opinion (albeit the correct one).
-
He's not going to be captain next year because he won't be coming back.
-
Sorry to break the news, but Zajac signed earlier today and is to leave Thursday. Smaby will sign (if he hasn't already) very soon and will be playing within the week.

ABC owns ESPN. I think thats what he means by affiliate.

Are you serious? There are 4 schools in the state that hockey is more popular than basketball, and one of them (Grafton) doesn't have a class A basketball team. South, Central and Red River are the only schools where that is true.
-
That's what FargoBison implied...but basketball is bigger at all the other high schools in Fargo/West Fargo. Basketball is king in every city not named Grand Forks or Grafton. It's huge out west, just look at the attendance at the State B tourney. This is an arguement you cannot win, Dave. If hockey was the most popular sport in the state, east teams wouldn't be sweeping the first round of the state tournament every year.
-
I don't think I'd say by far...I don't even think I'd say its the most popular. Hockey certainly is the most popular in the east, but its just another sport in the west. And basketball is huge in the class B schools...basketball is the most popular winter sport in the state...sorry Dave

Minot vs. Central - This was a pretty sloppy game I thought. Central was lucky to be able to not let things snowball out of control after Minot scored the first goal in about 25 seconds. I thought that this game could've gone either way, with both teams getting the same amount of chances. Devils Lake vs. South - I was very impressed by the way that Devils Lake played this afternoon. They controlled South for the most part and didn't give up a ton of point-blank chances, but when they did, South either missed or their goalie made a great save. Devils Lake should be able to come into the East next year and have a legitimate chance of making state, no question. They're a good, young, hard working team with a good deal of potential. Grafton vs. Williston - I thought that the final score of this game didn't really indicate how close it was. If Williston would've come out and scored the first goal, I wouldn't have been surprised if they would've won. Also, I was impressed with Williston's power play, they had alot of good chances. Red River vs. Bismarck - This one wasn't as close as it seemed. Red River dominated the game, but it looked like Red River was just going through the motions at some points. Michael Hillman was good, better than Tony Kringstad IMO. The Riders will need a better performance tomorrow nite, however. Which brings me to tomorrow nite: South vs. Central - IF Central can do what Devils Lake did today - not take too many penalties, contain South and not be too aggressive, then they may be able to stick with them. This, obviously, is easier said than done. I see South coming out fast tomorrow nite and winning easily, 6-2. Red River vs. Grafton - I think that Bismarck posed more of a challenge to Red River than Grafton will. Grafton and Bismarck are quite similar, one good line and not a whole lot else. If Red River can contain just one of the Campbells I think they'll be fine. Kringstad is not nearly the goalie Hillman is, and if Red River gets to him early he can lose it and start letting in weak goals. My guess is that Red River will come out playing like they have something to prove and win easily, 5-1.

Riders win, 4-3.
