  1. I missed the highlights of the game, but I heard that Marc Mihulka used a mythical move, one only heard about in stories of hockey games past. Called the Stop-O-Razi, Mihulka came down on a breakaway, deked one way, came to a complete stop, waited for the goalie to slide out of position, then calmly pushed the puck into the net. Anyone who has seen or been a receiver of the Stop-O-Razi know it is quite impossible to stop. Mihulka is definately one of the most talented players in the state, said by some to be less than a god, but more than a man. I know one thing for sure, I wouldn't want to be on the business end of a Stop-O-Razi.
  2. Quite true. Marc, of course, is Rob's son, and cousins to the Campbells from Grafton. It would be quite an occurnce if they were the top three candidates for Mr. Hockey. (It doesn't seem to farfetched does it?)
  3. I personally went to a trip to the Mecca, aka. Fenway Park. We arrived there for a 1:00 afternoon game at 9:00 in the morning. It is a football atmosphere, with people tailgaitng and grilling and waiting outside and whatnot. I went in 2 hours early and was able to watch batting practice from the top of the Green Monster. After batting practice, I took a self-guided tour around the stadium. I went and sat down by Pesky's Pole and there were some very nice Spanish or Mexican gentelmen sitting next to me. They must have had tickets to the game, because Pedro Martinez came up and stood next to me and was talkingiwith them. I must say that Pedro seems like a great guy, no ego at all. The atmosphere at Fenway was one that I have never experienced before, and one that I am not likely to experience again. If it was up to me, however, I would still be playing games at the old Engelstad, Memorial Stadium, and Hyslop. I grew up going to games in all those great arenas and stadiums and I have never been to a better atmosphere when cheering on Sioux sports.
  4. Score from tonight: Red River 5 West Fargo 1. Marc Mihulka making a strong case for Mr. Hockey with 3 goals and 2 assists.
  5. Let's wait to call West Fargo a great team before they play any of the big 3 in North Dakota. I have a sneaking suspicion that the Riders will come out hungry and pound the Packers. Riders in a blowout, 7-1
  6. She transferred to UND for this first semester, but she's moving to New York next semester (or so I've heard).
  7. I'd have to say that Crookston's goalie had one of the best performances I've seen by a goalie in a while. He was absolutely great tonight, all the credit in the world goes to that kid. He had to have around 40 saves. One save that sticks out was when Jake Brown rifled a one-timer from right in the slot and the goalie gloved it out of the air. Tonight's performance was quite a few notches below how the Riders played against South, but it is still early in the year, it was a non-conference game, and they still managed a tie.
  8. In the game tonight, Mihulka was called for a penalty. 10 seconds after he stepped out of the box and onto the ice, he was called for another one. Also, can you whine a little bit more about how much the refs love GF teams? Really, can you? I'm not sure I've heard someone complain about as much stuff and look for excuses as much as you have.
  9. I don't think I would say that South was clearly a better team. It is still early in the year, so I think that we'll see some definate change in these teams. As South is quite veteran-filled, Red River had many new, young players (9 to be exact) getting quite a bit of ice time last nite. As the season goes on, these players will become more experienced and Red River will a much better team than they have showed this far in the year. That said, South and Grafton, I'm sure, will improve as well. Some bright points for the Riders - they have 2 of the best young defensemen in the state in Ryan LaDouceur and Jarrett Galbreath. It would not surprise me if one or both of these players made the All-Region or maybe ever All-State teams. Also, I think Eli Rosendahl showed that he is the one of the best in the state. The goals that were scored against him were on a power play and a 2 on 1 rush and he looked quite comfortable even when South was peppering him with shots. On a final note, I think that the Mihulka-Spies-Meland line could put up 100 points this year. Mihulka is probably the strongest kid in the state, and Spies and Meland both can put the puck away. That line, along with the Weisgarber line and the Campbell line from Grafton will be the best lines in the state.
  10. Yes, I go to as many games as possible, but no, I do not play on the team. I know many of the players because I have siblings who are friends with those guys.
  11. Well maybe I took the kids being crushed a little too far, but my point is that these names shouldn't appear in this forum because the rumors are completely false and untrue. I was a student at Red River, but I have since graduated and am now (attempting) finishing up college.
  12. I want to reiterate how disappointed I am in some people on this board. If it were me when I was in high school or my son (who is thankfully not yet reached high school) I would be quite hurt by these comments. Before posting anything else, people, please, please, please, get your facts right. OK I'm done.
  13. I have spoken with several players on and around the team and there is little truth to that rumor. I think that I speak for everyone on this board to get your facts right before you post this slander about these kids. That is no one's business but the kid's and their families until the truth (if any) comes out. Come on guys, I thought you had more class than that. I'm sure these kids, their parents, friends, and anyone close to these kids would all be disappointed to learn that people are going on message boards and putting up these lies about these three kids. I'd be quite surprised to learn that these guys are risking parts of their senior hockey seasons drinking. When we cross the line of bringing names into the conversation, well, it's just plain disappointing. What if people read this and go and tell their friends, and word gets out that these guys are all suspended, with no truth behind the rumor? Go back to your sources and get the real truth.
  14. The first two examples, yes, the official obviously impacts the outcome of the game. Those instances are rare and weren't in the context of the argument. We were talking about officials calling penalties and having that effect the outcome of the game (we covered the no-call of the goal in overtime, but briefly).
  15. You feel like you're talking to a ten year old? Well this ten year old knows a helluva lot more about hockey than you do. What is the specific instance you are talking about? I'm not doubting that it happend, I just don't recall the last state championship game in overtime. If you are talking about the Red River-Fargo North 5 OT game, the Riders deserved to win that one because they had outplayed North the entire night. Regardless, that one miscall was an isolated incident in which a team was unlucky with the outcome of the call. But the official didn't score the game winning goal. Is it playing a part in the outcome? Yes, but the team still had a chance to score; they didn't lose the game at that specific point. However, you can't tell me that the team wasn't helped during the course of the season by an official making the incorrect call that went in their favor. Human error is part of the game. However, officials make the correct call about 98% of the time. THE OFFICIALS DO NOT DECIDE GAMES!!! Do you ever hear players after games blaming officials directly for the loss? Never. But you do hear fans complain because they need somewhere to place the blame. The players know that even with the bad calls, they still have the chance to win the game.
  16. I have relatives in Sioux Falls, so this was a perfect opportunity to visit them, then drive to Vermillion to catch Sioux game. I'm not sure where my seats are though, one of my relatives is a USD alum and purchased the tickets thru them.
  17. I've said it once and I'll say it again. The referees don't decide the outcome of the game. I don't specifically remember the last 3 minutes, but was Central on the power play in the last 3 minutes? Even if they were, South had successfully killed off the Central power plays previous to the last 3 minutes. Did the refs let in 2 weak goals in 47 seconds? People use referees as excuses for teams choking in big games. That's all there is to it.
  18. Were there questionable calls in the game? Sure, but there's questionable calls in every game, and the calls went both ways. Did the Riders get lucky to win the game? Sure, they scored 3 goals in 7 minutes. But was Dave LaDoucer out "to get" North? That is absolutely ludacris. A. Dave LaDoucer is very respected as an official in North Dakota. He's been around the game for many, many years. B. All the talk that he screwed teams out of winning games came from fans who were mad just because they're team didn't win the game.
  19. Ha ha, the two penalties on the Riders were made to "cover up" the others. That's the second stupidest thing I've heard from you today. I'm sure it was in LaDoucer's mind to call all the penalties he could until Red River caught up. That's absolutely rediculous.
  20. Regardless of the game, it is ludacris to say that one official can change the direction of the game. Sure they can call penalties, but officials can't score goals. Oh, and in that North game, Red River had 2 penalties called in the first 7 minutes of the 3rd period, so the refereeing obviously biased as some people think.
  21. Wow, you really think that one official aided a victory against a terrible team? That is easily the stupidest thing I've heard. And as I am typing this, I am asking a Red River hockey player about the validity of this statement. He was on the championship team this year, and he told me that throughout his entire varsity career (3 years), he never played in a game in which they were at one point losing to West Fargo. Get your facts straight.
  22. Specifics, I think you have mixed up the words most talent and best team. Sure FSH probably had the most talent, but they were hardly a team, as witnessed by the State Tournament blowup, in which they allowed 9 goals in 2 games. They simply did not get the job done when it had mattered. The best teams get the job done. FSH was clearly not the best team.
  23. "Marc "10-Bears" Mihulka, who I have heard as been tearing up the Elite league this fall " Who'd you hear that from? Him? <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
