  1. To expand on hrkac's comments - I've heard them the past few weeks and the spend two hours concocting schemes to get UND fans riled up. Don't read into it too much. Dubay went fishing and caught himself a Goon! As for Happy........I don't know.
  2. Nothing to add other than this will surprise my Luxemburger-Irish mother and her family in LaMoure & Castleton. But at least we're not stereotyping here....
  3. Next thing you know we'll be cutting down our trees and installing wind machines.
  4. Thanks Jim. I didnt' think it was likely and did see his parents names listed somewhere (probably the Sioux homepage). Many of you are very tuned into the recruiting at UND and thought it was worth asking. Thanks again.
  5. Off topic some, but does anyone know if Ryan and David are related to former (and somewhat obscure) NHLer Larry Hale? My dad and Larry were friends when Hale played for the Mpls Millers. Larry later played with the Broad Street bullies, and we happened to live in Baltimore. If you want to hear funny stories ask my pops about metting Larry and the boys for a beer after a Flyers game. Lets just say those guys were nuttier off the ice than they were on it. Unfortunately pops has lost touch with Larry and asked me to ask UND fans if there may be a relation. Thanks.
  6. jk - You're right, it was Shutte. I had whiney Metcalf on me mind. I don't think anyone is suggesting a team or coach 'tanked' it on purpose. More like a coach saw the team was lethargic and/or not playing well. Instead of giving them the 'ole Knute Rokne he chose to let things slide a little. Players will only respond to so many rah-rah speeches and part of being a good coach is choosing ones battles. This is what I think Lucia did. I'll let you guys hash out what you think Blais' motivations were and what he did. Again, just speculation. For all I know Lucia chewed them a new one during/after the DU FF game.
  7. And assuming a victory means nothing in the PWR ratings. If you are playing for your playoff life then (obviously) or a loss could have a negative impact it's another story. Sprig - I think Jan's FF banner hangs between the Pizza Hut and Carl's House of Cheese banners.
  8. Goon - It's Mr. National Champion Hauser to you. Also, it was Maine's Peter Metcalf that was Mr. Shhhhh. I may catch some grief for this, but the DU game in the WCHA meant nothing to the Gophers. We had the bye wrapped up after the win over Jan and I'm fairly convinced once Lucia saw the ship sinking he didn't do much to stop it. Just my opinion, but Lucia had his sights already set on the NCAA's; the DU game was a formality.
  9. It's on, but not on cable. It's on TC channel 45 KSTC (or channel 12 on TC area cable networks) and it's not shown live in FSN. Typically games broadcast on Ch. 45 are re-broadcast on FSN on Sunday afternoon. Can't help you with sat coordinates. Here is a link to the Gopher sports page with the specific information. http://www.gophersports.com/calendar/listi...&sport_id=mHock Edit - A quick peek shows the beloved Woodmutts will be poisoning FSN on Friday, Jan 10.
  10. To give the devil his due, Dubay has been a fan for quite some time. But he could very easily be just another poster on a message board - he's an on-air flamer. PA wouldn't know a puck if it bounced off his head. Think Sid lite.
  11. Yeah. but, but, but, but,........Damn I hate it when I do that!
  12. They live with you? Isn't than an NCAA violation?
  13. No one asked but... It's PA and Dubay. PA is Paul Allen, who is the voice of the Vikings on the radio. Dubay is just a fan. Neither one are "journalists" so I would not take anything they say to seriously. Think a message board with sound effects and good guests. In fact, they got their gig only because Jesse ran for office. KFAN had to put someone else on and these two got it. Supposed to be temorary gig but lughead ended up in office. Heh-hee. Someone called as I was typing and said PA & Dubay were on crack. Could it be the same caller who called Blais?? Well done, whoever you are and your second line would not be our first line.
  14. Jim - I didn't realize what you meant by rumor. I concur though as I've never seen it in print. You're right about Notre Dame, but the it's only example I could think of at the time. I know there have been a lot of schools who have been mentioned for membership. Texas was thrown around after the SWC broke up. Rutgers, Pitt, U-MO, Iowa State are just some I've heard. None are very likely though, at least at this time. Notre Dame will never give up its football independence and have to share the $$$$ they bring in. But my main point is the Big Ten is more than an athletic conference and I'd doubt they would allow any non-Big Ten schools participate in a Big Ten hockey conference - if it were to happen. My feeling remain unchanged, I do not support a Big Ten hockey conference.
  15. The Big Ten is more than an athletic conference. Big Ten schools are joined as research institututions - See note from the Big Ten website below. Athletics is just one component of the Big Ten, albiet a very large one. To play hockey in a the Big Ten* hockey conference would require full membership in the conference. This is not a knock against UND, but the Big Ten would be looking at many other schools (Notre Dame for example) long before UND was considered for membership. * I see very little chance of this happening and would not like to see it. Too much tradition in the WCHA IMO. From what I've read this seems to me the opinion of the other Big Ten hockey coaches. Edit - The Big Ten does (I believe) have a rule where participation by more than half the schools requires the conference to sponsor competition in the sport. So if another BT team starts a hockey program it would be more than a rumor. But given the relitivly small size of college hockey it may be overlooked. I don't know. ---------------------------------------------------- www.bigten.org The Big Ten Conference is an association of 11 world-class universities whose member institutions share a common mission of research, graduate, professional and undergraduate teaching and public service. Intercollegiate athletics has an important place within the mission. Founded in 1896, the Big Ten has sustained a comprehensive set of shared practices and policies that enforce the priority of academics in student-athletes' lives and emphasize the values of integrity, fairness and competitiveness. Big Ten universities provide in excess of $63 million in athletic scholarship aid to 7,000 men and women student-athletes to compete for 25 championships, 12 for men and 13 for women. Conference institutions sponsor more than 250 athletic programs.
  16. dagies - My guess is UW was doing the debatable chant before we were and Cornell before they were. Either way it's kinda lame. If you want to see something cool you should see the UW student section at football games do the chicken dance when the band plays the song. Pretty cool. My kids are 9 & 6 - and being brought up as Gopher fans and, more importantly, hockey fans. They may continue being Gopher fans as they get older but they will appreciate good hockey when they see it, no matter who is playing. If you're suffering from withdrawl follow the link to hear the Rouser, MN March (written by J. Philip Sousa BTW), and the balance of the shool song library. http://www.music.umn.edu/marchingband/media/schlsongs/ (I know - zaero chance this wil happen. )
  17. Both my kids could spell Minnesota by the age of 2-1/2 - probably due to me taking them to a couple of UND-MN games when they were young.
  18. Thanks Goon - I feel much better now. Feel the hate! You might as well go out and buy that case of Buckhorn and some Swishers for the Jan 12 payoff.
  19. My condolences to Sioux fans and the Englestad family. His contributions to UND and college hockey are part of what makes this the greatest game on earth.
  20. I'm so damn easy...... I will state, for the record, I would be a Fighting Sioux fan long before I'd be a BADger or Jan Huskie fan. But for that to happen the University of MN would have to disappear into the night or move to Dallas, and that ain't gonna happen. FHG - You got that helmet warmed up for the big homestand!
  21. I agree 100%. I appreciate the opportunity (on all boards) to give an opinion. BTW - FHG probably did write that, he was just too drunk to remember.
  22. Some of the '80 Olympic guys would dispute this claiming one must be human to actually bleed. Tough stretch the past few weeks brings out the worst in fans. Couple that with frustration over the Brooks deal and there will be some complaining. For some reason people can't let go of the fact ZP didn't choose MN. I took a lot of heat on USCHO (especially from HE posters) when I said I was happy he chose a WCHA school so I could watch him play for (X number of) years. Same reason I enjoyed watching guys like Hrkas, Rienpriect, Drake, and others - I enjoy good hockey and it's good for the league. Good luck against the red menace this weekend.
  23. kr - I read this board quite a bit, just don't post that often. You know, keep your friends near and your enemies closer. It's a big story not so much because ZP chose UND (it's over, done, complete, good luck to him, glad he's in the WCHA and not at UW) but because one of the pillars of the MN progrem allegedly helped steer him to UND. If Ralph was allegedly telling players to go to MN it would surely lead to some discussion here, much like what's on the POI board now.
