  1. I thought the ME-UNH game was one of the worst games I've seen in years, especially considering what was at stake. Neither team seemed all that interested in the first and to me Maine seemed to win by default. Playing in front of mosty non-partisain fans in large arena can have some affect, but i didn't think either team played with any sense of urgency. Scott - Did you see who called the slash on Haydar in the third? He will be a WCHA ref next year and Boche is definately out. Also, it was a game time decision for Pitrowski to do the champ game. ME was protesting but the NCAA decided having "neutral league" officials was important.

We had a great time with some BU fans at Mancinni's before the champ game. They said it took them a period and 1/2 to figure out what we were saying after spelling Minnesota. One guy thought it was his favorite drink, "Khaluaer and soder" I had to ask him if "Khaluer" is from "Cuber" Personally, Kalua (sp?) and soda sound like a horrible drink. Then some poor family was trying to celebrate a birthday. After we helped sing Happy Birthday our table started the M-I-N-N-... as the song ended. Soon Nick was bring a cake to every table so we wouldn't stop.

1966 DOB for me. I always thought of myself as more of the Gonzo type.

This Gopher fan went to his first game in 1975 as a nine year old. Championships (or good runs) were just part of being a fan then. I can't say I enjoyed the 23 year span but I can say it made it all the more sweeter. I'll never take this feeling for granted, guarenteed.

Sioux fans, thanks for the kind words.
  6. Goon - who is your brother-in-law? I've seen you refer to him a few times but I've never figured it out. If you want to keep it private, no worries I understand. Then just give me an obvious hint.
  7. I only saw Quiniwhatever at McGovern's so I didn't think that counted.
  8. It seemed like Panzar played for 7 years there. God he just killed us and couldn't wait for him to graduate. I don't know his rationale but I do know Panzer would have had my vote and did online.
  9. I also saw: RPI RIT - DIII BSU DU Hahvad
  10. Murph - Great to meet you. My dad kept asking how long I had known you - about 5 minutes in person dad - really? He had a great time talking with you and Nathan and it reaffirmed my belief about Sioux fans. They know hockey and like beer.
  11. For the record, It's "Matt DeMarchie." I agree Taffe needs to stop the stick work after the whistle. I suspect that problem will be rectified after a week in the minors. I didn't know Lucia voted against Panzer. That is disappointing. I'm not sure about the suport of small schools arguement because personally I wouldn't A) consider UND small when it comes to hockey and B) Mn has made sure to schedule schools like BSU & MSU-M to promote the growth of the sport. As for the Big Ten hockey confernance MN (and UW) is stuck between a rock and hard place. Big Ten rules require the confernce to have league play if more than 6 teams are playing. IF (big if) PSU or Illinois were to add hockey, we may be required, along with UW, to join a Big Ten conference. Unfortunately, from a hockey perspective, we're a Big Ten school first and WCHA second. I suspect if you polled MN hockey fans there would be little support for the B10 idea. We're also a founding member of the WCHA and it would be a travesty to leave it. Only dopes like grandpa sports and other hockey neophytes would find the idea intriguing.
  12. I assume you saw the article about Parise in yesterday's Star-Trib?
  13. The Sioux did not have anyone named to the team. What is amazing is this is the first time since 1996 the Sioux did not have a 1st or 2nd team All American. And even more impressive, since 1979 (insert joke here, I set myself up ) there have been only five years without a Sioux All American! That's an a amazing run of talent and no wonder you're not used to being idle in April. You guys should be reloaded next year, especially if Parise is as good as advertised. http://www.hockeyeastonline.com:/arcpress/...102/apr3aa.html
  14. He was suspended for the champ game by the league and I think reprimanded by the school.
  15. It's easy to laugh now, but it was embarasing at the time. I still cannot believe Sconny fans would waste beer on the Wooger.
  16. Very! The OT was, ahem. called very loose. Numerous holds, hooks, tackles and apparenlty one jersey pull were not called. UND had at least one pipe and Kollar made some spectacular saves.
  17. I did not see the act nor did I catch the replay so I cannot comment. But - I would have been at Mariucci, not the X.
  18. Boy, if you guys think Woog and/or Frank are homers, you should here Somnor. Larson - shudder... I agree with What has been said about Woog. He's very entertaining and glib. Not afraid to tear down the Gophers when the play poorly and point out a bad call - either way - when he sees it. After years of listening to Frank I've come to a conclusion. He has a stack of notecards with information and he will get through them all regardless of the 'flow' of the game or conversation. It's now one of those things were he's been doing it so long I don't think he'll ever leave. The contract FSN has is with the schools (MN & UW) and not the league. For MN it's everything but FB and mens BB. The league probably looks at it as a bonus as the don't have to do anything and the two schools provide high exposure for the league through the satatlite. I can understand the frustrations other schools have with this arrangement, but given the demographics I don't see it changing much. The only thing which could change the situation an MN is ESPN holds the rights to college hoops and charges very high fees for FOX to pick up the broadcast. Thus, hoops and its numbers is eliminated from the picture. Also, there is some talk of the Twins and either the Wild or Mutts forming a new cable sports channel as they are fueding with FOX-N. BYW Goon - MN beat Sconny in ot to advance to the Final Five final in Milwaukee (96?) and rushed on the ice to celebrate with the players. In an act I thought I'd never see a cheesehead perform, beer was wasted and dumbed on Woog and the players. When Doug attempted to clarify who was going to play for number one he (I'm sure) inadvertantly raised the wrong digit. The WCHA did not appreciate this as an error and suspended him from the Champ game.
  19. Ouch! Rmember, Adam is fragile.
  20. I was, and that may have been Kathy St. Martin who does most of the Gopher home games.
  21. I agree with everything you said 100%.
  22. "I would argue that their tradition isn't as great as ours (easy argument), but they are one of a handful of programs that I have a great deal of respect for." Easy or subjective?
