  1. Thanks for the sarcasm AFF....apparently you can't understand sarcasm or people "wishfully" thinking nowadays....I think everyone on here is realistic about what will happen. Heck, everyone will be happy if/when we are allowed to keep our name. Maybe you just missed the sarcasm in PCM's post, maybe not. But I'm pretty sure it was there.
  2. That is false...The UofMaine team did in fact go 42-1-2....Sorry to inform you that you are mistaken. Nowadays, with teams only playing so many games (on average, 40-45 games/year) it's almost impossible for teams in this day and age to achieve a 40-win season. That's what makes those 2 teams' records that more remarkable.
  3. 10:07 the games start our time according to FightingSioux.com
  4. Correct me if I am wrong, And I may be, but I thought the resolution that was passed by the ND Tribal Council was only a few(5 or less) representatives from each of the 5 tribes located in the North Dakota area. The resolution that states that we do have permission, given certain conditions, was given by the Standing Rock Reservation in 2000. If all of the above information is correct, that would be like having a few representatives from each state vote to elect the president of the U.S. Even though the rest of the state may not agree with the votes of the representatives, it doesn't matter apparently. That's what seems to have happend when the ND Tribal Council passed a resolution, not taking into account every Native American on each reservation in this state. Just because a council comprised of approximately 15-25 members passed a resolution stating that THOUSANDS of people disapproved of the use of the logo doesn't make it right or very valid. If it is so clear cut and blatant, I again ask why doesn't the Standing Rock Reservation come out and voice their opposition to the NCAA about the of the Fighting Sioux logo? That would be the easiest way to solve this problem, but the reservation has decided not to respond to the requests made by the NCAA to contact them and figure this out. Feel free to correct any part of my rant.
  5. Who's ignoring the resolution?? UND? IF it was that clear cut, then how come the Standing Rock Reservation(I believe thats the one) won't respond to the NCAA's request for clarification on their resolution they made 5 years ago, which gave UND permission to use the name with certain conditions? If they are so ademately opposed as you make it seem, this should have been a done deal over 3 months ago if you ask me. The logo should have been changed along with the name, but as you can see, it hasn't been changed yet. That's why it's not so clear cut as you make it seem to be on here.
  6. The game is on here in Grand Forks at 7:30, tape delayed an hour and a half because of the Wild game. Someone posted elsewhere on here that FSN North-Wisc. is showing the game live, while FSN North-MSP is showing it tape-delayed. That should explain the differences in time on TV for you. It also is carried live on NHL Center Ice Package I believe as well if anyone bought the package. The game starts at 6pm local Grand Forks time.

I talked to my cousin who played with Landry and Kasowski this year for Central and apparently Landry is most likely going to go to UND, they are offering him around $5000/year he said right now. Kasowski isn't such a sure thing though. It's between UND and Duluth apparently. UND wants him to be a linebacker and Duluth wants him to be a running back. So, whatever position he wants to play in college will most likely decide where he's going to be playing next year.
  8. I'm not sure that I missed the point. 1. Maybe it's never been brought to the public's attention until now, when it hit the international stage of hockey. 2. Like I stated in my previous post, everybody can put aside their egos for a two-week stretch for the sake of playing for your country. Just because some people don't like a person, doesn't mean the team can't function because of it. These are supposed to be the best American hockey players under the age of 20, they have been the stars of their respective teams growing up and now when you put them all together, there is going to be some conflict almost everytime I would imagine. Maybe the problem between Kessel and whoever goes back some time, but that's neither here nor there. I'm not sure that I understand how TSN constantly "whines" about the Gophers as you say they do, since I only choose to watch the channel up on certain occasions. Maybe the reason they are the only news organization to report is because they have been talking about the World Jr. tourney for the last 2-3 weeks. It doesn't make headlines in the paper's in the U.S. yet because the games haven't started yet. The U.S. newspapers won't make it headlines until the games officially start.
  9. Just because one news show reports something, doesn't mean every station is required to report the same story as well. Welcome to the world of news reporting. If I got information leaked to me that their was a chemistry problem regarding the US, Canadian, Czech, etc. team, why would I allow every news organization to have that information? That doesn't make much sense now does it? Because only one station reported the claim against Kessel, that makes the story bogus? There's no reason to believe that the claim reported is not true, especially if it came from two respected Canadian hockey analysts. As posted already, if you don't believe it, feel free to drop one of those people a line(email) and wait by your computer for a response. Because heaven for bid, nobody could hate your almighty Phil Kessel. This isn't the first time somebody has had a problem with Kessel I bet throughout his hockey career. Welcome to the real world buddy. Just because they are teammates, doesn't mean they have to like each other. They just have to play with each other for 2 weeks, respect the skills of one another, and then everyone can go on their way after the tourney once they bring the gold back to the United States.
  10. Do you have any proof that can be posted on here regarding the stance that the Native American Vets are taking on this logo issue? Because unless you can post something valid and with a little credibility attached to it, this quote has no validity whatsoever. Just like when other people on here post facts of information and you attack them about the validity of their information, until I see a survey or something significant that states the stance Native American Vets are taking on the logo, your quote has no more validity than anything anyone else posts on here. Happy Holidays Everyone
  11. The top line of South should not have played the entire 3rd period. Not 2 minutes, not 5 minutes, Not at all. There's no excuse to run up a score like that. You can sit your top line and run 3 lines(2-3-4) for the entire third. Were they worried about a Wahpeton comeback? God only knows, but they could have done a lot of other things besides what they did. Dump the pucks into the corners, do something. Don't even shoot on net would be a simple solution. I don't get it, but I've played against South in football and basketball to know that that is the type of school they are to me. Always wanting to rub it in a little more. Sad but true.
  12. Just to clarify, nobody was debating who had the BETTER WEEKEND last weekend, because I think the only difference between them was the goal Kessel scored when Stoa was in the crease, which according to Sheperd's Father, the head of officiating in the WCHA, should have been reversed to a no goal because of that fact. Both of them didn't do anything spectacular to me when watching them both. So I guess you can give the nod to Kessel because he scored a controversial goal last weekend. But the quote of Sioux_Hab-it stated that MacKenzie thought Toews was the more complete package overall, not just based on one weekend of hockey. Just so you understand and quit posting comments that are irrelevant to the quote you are poking fun at.
  13. There was the the commissioner of the WCHA, the head of the WCHA officials, and 3 tribal members from what I gathered while working the game Friday night. No idea who they were exactly or how high of a tribal member they were, but they were there none the less. They were seated directly behind the student section in a suite.
  14. That's a pretty bold statement for someone to make I think on here...Just to agree with sagard, I don't remember Kessel or Wheeler even really being on the ice on Saturday night. Does that mean Wheeler isn't deserving of the #5 pick last year? Obviously the scouts know what they are looking at because I can see Wheeler being a dominant force in the future when he begins to utilize his size better. Kessel scored a goal on Friday, but Toews was just as noticeable, if not more, on the ice on Friday, but didn't get on the score sheet. Does that mean he didn't play just as well? I think not. Usually when 2 good teams get together, a lot of guys disappear, and it tends to be freshman a lot of times. If you know hockey, thats what happens during a player's freshman year. There's going to be some up-and-down periods. There's gotta be an adjustment period. Every hockey player has an off game, Towes had it on a night against a big-time rival in a big-time game, but that doesn't mean he's not an unbelieveable hockey player. Don't be so harsh on a guy when you can obviously see he's got something special in him. But thats just my $.02.
  15. Before you go off on this tangent for no reason about a supposed no-call, please tell me you were watching the game at least...I looked at the box score and I didn't see Kaufmann's name as the guy that took the penalty you are referring to, but he didn't get called for holding, he got called for obstruction cross-checking if we are talking about the same play(happend just inside your teams blue line), which put UND on a 5x3 or a 4x4 I believe. Anyways, i was watching that play the whole way down the ice and to say that he didn't deserve to go to the box is outrageous, especially if you are a hockey fan. He was on the ice and he blatantly cross-checked the Sioux player when Shepherd was directly behind them following the play up ice. How can you call that a bad call??
  16. Normally you can just flip-flop the home/away schedule from the previous year to get a good gauge on who we will be seeing. That would mean we will have Mankato, USD, and Duluth at home and Omaha, Augustana, and St. Cloud on the road...
  17. I got a solution for our situation now.... All we have to do is get a mascot that is "hostile and abusive" and have the NCAA make us get rid of it to be off the list now....Simple Solution to a Complex Problem
  18. And Wheeler, Kessel, Stoa, etc. were all 15 years old the last time the Gophers won a national title....What's your point?...You don't have one?....GREAT. Because anything that happend 3 years ago or 6 years ago has nothing to do with what is happening this year. And I also wouldn't consider Wheeler a "physical force" just yet. He'll go through his slump just like every other freshman does in the WCHA. And It's ok that the Gophers are a finesse team and that UND is a more physical team, you don't have to agree with everyone. Just remember that defense wins championships and with Briggs in goal UM doesn't have a chance because the Gophers won't score enough against quality opponents to win a close game IMO.
  19. Excellent post...it IS a matter of principle, whether people agree with us or not, anybody should be able to see that the NCAA is fighting a fight that it shouldn't be in at all. This is something that should be resolved between UND and the tribes of ND/SD, just like it should be between every school and namesake tribe. I say we go on the road as well if needed to prove a point, that we as a University aren't not going to be pushed around by a "bully" and it will in actuallity unite our University, city, region, together even more when this school shows it's inner strength for the country to see.
  20. To answer this question, in section 116, seat one is on the blue line(right side on your pic).
  21. I agree. It shows the class of a program when a guy(Spirko) is skating into the offensive zone without the puck and gets two-handed across his knee from behind from a guy for no reason.
  22. Don't quote me on this, but since I work at REA and have too noticed that we have played the Canadian National Anthem for all 3 games, I asked around and people said that the new GM at REA, Jody Hodgeson(sp?), apparently thought it would be a nice gesture since we do have some Canadian players and there are probably quite a few Canadian hockey fans that visit this city on the weekends that will also visit REA if there are games to watch. More of a respect thing I think.
  23. How many Gopher Defenseman have their jock strap left at the blue line on TV? 1. Harrington......Spirko UND recruits defenseman that aren't afraid to hit people, and yes, maybe they aren't the "prolific" scorer that the UofM has, but when you get hit, you'll think twice about coming down the middle of the rink or along the boards. Nobody is saying the Gophers or Michigan or Wisconsin or any other program don't produce NHL-Quality defenseman...The reason Hakstol promised him he could play right away was because of the number of D-Man we lost last year...The UofM has a lot of returning D-Man so obviously Lucia couldn't promise him playing time...But that's alright, we'll take your Gopher "defect" as you seem to think Finley is and we'll sit him on the blue line and wait for your little forwards to come up the ice so that Mr. Finley can properly introduce himself to all of them...
