  1. I think what is greatly overshadowed by these losses were that there were only 3 mistakes made by the Sioux defense over the weekend. That is VERY good considering how porous their defense was (not saying that it was a problem as they won both games).
  2. Just back from the game and here is my take. It was like watching last years regional final all over again as the Sioux dominated the game start to finish. Even Anderson did a reasonable job. To their credit CC cashed in on the one glaring error inside the blueline when 27 tried to play the puck instead of the man. Fylling had the best scoring chance on a break with Zaba deep in his crease, but unlike the old number nine he shot it right into the CC crest. I can tell you that the lack of goals is getting just as frustrating for the players as it is for the fans. You can see it on all of their faces. It likely contributed to Fuhr getting a major for slashing at the end of the game so he will miss the next one. Also to the credit of the CC Dmen, they do one heck of a job getting their bodies and sticks in the way of scoring chances. Bina gets my vote as the Sioux player of the weekend. We had a nice alumni get together with the coaches prior to the game and Eades corrected me regarding Murray. It was not a chop that injured him, rather it was the contact in the post game scrum. Like all upper body injuries they are probably waiting for the swelling to go down and we may not know the true extent until the next Coaches show.
  3. Zajac couldn't cash in because the CC did a great job of smothering him. At times it was a borderline mugging.
  4. Things could get ugly for College Hockey if the WHA does kick off next season and the NHL decides to employ replacement players. There is only so much talent to go around and we may be truly grateful that Hak went after so many talented players that are still high school players.
  5. Absolutely! When was JJs last start? Week One?
  6. Why do most young men go to the Academy. He must feel that he is better suited to be a fighter jockey vs a pro hockey player.
  7. As of the Christmas break not very well. It would appear that both Briggs and their Freshmen defense are burned out.
  8. Guys, cut Murray some slack. How well do you skate and play with a brace on a bum knee. I noted that the brace was bothering him at tonights game.
  9. I just got back from the game and all three goals were scored at my end of the rink. I can tell you that the Sioux played well and that both CC goals were due to a lack of backchecking and yes it was number 9 again on the game winner. I am not trying to offend any of his fans but it really is time for him to take a seat and think about his play or lack thereof. Number 20 seems to just drift aimlessly about the rink and I am beginning to believe that although he has the skills he doesn't have the hockey smarts required at this level. All of the defensemen did reasonably well and considering he was up against the number one team Radke had a solid game as did Bina. Finally, the referee, Anderson, was letting almost anything go for most of the third period. The players on both teams took note and started to take liberties with each other. Why he would wait until the last four minutes to start calliing again is beyond me Finally, Murray took a viscious chop to his right arm at the end of the game and left the arena in considerable pain. It didn't look good
  10. Based on Sioux and WCHA history you would think that 20 year old Canadians remain the answer. Unfortunately there are too many pro options today between North America and Europe as well as more junior teams. Therefore, the talent pool is over-tapped compared to the glory days. Therefore, the Sioux coaches should be commended for going out and landing highly ranked talent that despite their young years should be able to outplay the available 20 year olds.
  11. I hope the price of admission was worth it! I have front row right near the Sioux bench for tonight and will be in my Sioux green. I hope to see a Sioux victory without a beer bath.
  12. Congrats! All we need is a Gopher Teething Ring to go with that Sioux get-up
  13. Of course Toews isn't on there because he isn't elgible until the following year.
  14. I would not grade a coaching staff half way through its first season however, I would not be so generous to certain senior forwards on the current team. Some of whom have taken a serious step backwards this season. Obviously, some of them must feel that their hockey careers are over after this season because that is the message they are giving any scouts who are watching. The coaching staff shouldn't have to explain what needs to be done to seniors, so apply the grades where they belong. The only opinion I will offer on the current coaching staff is that the PP is starting to look better.
  15. I didn't find a Box Score but did find the following: PUBLICATION: Times Colonist (Victoria) DATE: 2005.01.13 EDITION: Final SECTION: Sports PAGE: D8 / Front BYLINE: Sharie Epp SOURCE: Times Colonist ILLUSTRATION: Color Photo: Debra Brash, Times Colonist / CoastalConference goalie Derek Janzen, of the Chilliwack Chiefs, saves the puck on a shot from Justin St. Louis of the Trail Smoke Eaters while Geoff Kinrade of the Cowichan Valley Capitals looks on at the BCHL 2005 All-Star game. ; Color Photo: Debra Brash, Times Colonist / Andrew Rebus of the Quesnel Millionaires rounds a pylon as part of the the skills competition at the BCHL all- star game Wednesday. An All-Star Agenda It's like trying to find the seed of a four-leaf clover, but that didn't keep the scouts and their notepads from carefully scrutinizing of the B.C. Hockey League All-Star Showcase at Bear Mountain Arena on Wednesday night. The BCHL is producing winners. "This league is getting more and more recognition. It's good calibre hockey," said Jim Benning, the head of amateur scouting for NHL's Buffalo Sabres, highlighting Brett Hull, Paul Kariya, and Stan Smyl for starters. "There are a lot of great players who have come out of this league." As expected, the all-star game was free-wheeling, wide open, and high scoring, with the playmakers in the bunch taking full advantage of no-clutch, no-grab, no-hit, no-penalty hockey. In the end, the Coastal Conference, which had trailed the Interior Conference by period scores of 3-2 and 7-4, blasted back with seven goals in the third period to win the shootout 11-8. Cowichan Valley's Chris Frank, who only got into the game as a replacement for injured Chilliwack player Matt Gow, scored the winner, making it 9-8 at 14:49 of the third period. Brandon Wong of Powell River was rewarded by capping off a nice rush with the insurance marker at 17:25. Goal scorers for the Interior were Dean Strong (Vernon) and rookie Leath Gare (Prince George), with two apiece, Les Reaney (Williams Lake), Chris Stevens (Prince George), Ryan Coghlan (Penticton), and Jones. For the Coastal Conference, it was Andrew Kozek (Surrey) and Peter Bogdanich (Chilliwack), with two each, Alexandre Gagne (Cowichan Valley), Steve Cameron (Victoria), Alan Mazur (Coquitlam), Mark Soares (Coquitlam), Rob Pritchard (Langley), Frank (Cowichan Valley), and Wong (Powell River). Nanaimo Clippers captain Michael Olson added three assists. The MVPs were defenceman Geoff Kinrade of Cowichan Valley, and forward Ryan Duncan of Salmon Arm. The teams provided plenty of end-to-end action for the 1,955 fans, combining for nearly 100 shots on net in a tough night for goaltenders. Benning had Prince George's Michael-Lee Teslak and Chilliwack's Derek Janzen on his goalie list from NHL's Central Scouting, but wasn't about to make any career-breaking decisions on the basis of the all-star game. "We have between six to 10 viewings over the course of the year," said Benning, who also had Bogdanich, Kozek, Frank, Justin St. Louis of Trail, Devin Timberlake of Alberni Valley, and Matt Watkins of Vernon on his list. "If any other kids stand out, then we'll take note of them too," said Benning, a veteran of 12 years scouting talent all over North America and Europe. He said it's hard to judge such young players. "We look for specific things," he said. "We look at their hands ... their skill, their speed, their style." "Do they handle the puck? Do they compete? Do they work hard?" Once Benning and others have decided they like what they see, they get to know the player. They check out his character, and talk to his coach. Then they wait for the prospect to graduate from junior hockey, and grow up in college. Even then, it's still a guessing game. "We're hoping somebody develops into NHL calibre," Benning said. "It's not a perfect science." Ice chips * The fans jumped in right on cue when Mark Donnelly held the mike out to the crowd during the national anthem. The singer, an institution at Vancouver Canucks' games, said "I haven't done this for awhile. I might need a little help." * Skills' competition -- Fastest skater: Matt Watkins, Vernon; Stick handling: Tyrell Mason, Salmon Arm; Sniper: Bogdanich.
  16. According to USA Hockey it is a "point awarded to a player or players for helping set up a goal; usually the last two offensive players to handle the puck prior to a goal being scored are credited for assists."
  17. So there you go, Hak expects Colby to produce all the missing goals too. Then we will have one line for opposing teams to focus on.
  18. I assume that he could wait right up until the University's Student Application deadline if he wanted to but maybe someone knows differently?
  19. I don't know who will be the better player but yes it is Colby's younger brother.

  21. Apparently so, I am an internet broadcast subscriber and the REA just sent me an apology, stating that they would not be able to show Saturday's game either.
