  1. If you think Parise got mugged in the WCHA wait until you see what happens to a little waif like Kessel. Parise was stocky and tough so he could take a licking and keep on ticking. Kessel looks very good in patty-cake hockey like the game with the Swedes but we'll see what happens to Kessel's game when the going truly gets tough. I don't believe he will be the impact player in the WCHA that everyone is expecting.
  2. Fellow Old-Timer, I have to disagree with you for once. If you saw his goal in the AS game, the kid is a sniper at any level and I think he has improved his defensive game immensely (thanks to his time under Blais). He reminds me of a young Luc Robitaille who was also a late draft pick and was always considered unwortht of the next level. My work is going to take me to Ottawa this summer and if the NHL can get its act together I can't wait to watch him play.
  3. Some of us grew up with I Love Lucy and the original and best Star Trek
  4. I agree that UMD is a complete team compared to other conferences however, they were picked to finish firts and the coaches poll so you tell me how important Lessard was to a team that will likely finish sixth.
  5. Ooops unlike you age seems to be claiming my memory. I seem to recall that Panzer got all or nearly all the Sioux goals in one of the playoff game that year but the fact remains that beyond Miller the Spartans didn't have a team to match the Sioux. As for MVPs like Hrkac, Gretzky et al. They were exceptional players in that they could still stand out on powerhouse teams. My only point is that it is easier to stand out as an MVP on an incomplete team. Look at Giguerre of Anaheim and Kiprusoff of Calgary, two other goaltenders who carried teams further than they should have gone. UMD doesn't look very complete without Lessard this season now do they?
  6. Just like in Pro hockey, the winner of an MVP award like the Hobey has typically stood out above his peers because he has clearly carried the team in some shape or form. Therefore, quite often, the team with the hockey MVP is not good enough or complete enough to win a champonship. Look at the year that Miller was selected over Panzer, yet Panzer lit him up for two goals in the playoffs. Panzer was the best player on another powerhouse Sioux team while Miller carried a Michigan State Team that was even more offensively challenged than the current Sioux. It is why the Sioux have only one Hobey winner to date and why this year you have so many names from marginal teams.
  7. Sounds like flawless logic to me
  8. One thing that did get discussed this weekend was the play of Robbie Earl, specifically his lack of sportsmanship. Apparently he is like this every weekend so why were hockey fans so surprised when he didn't get selected for the US Junior team. Mind you he would a been a nice fit on the Russian team
  9. A solid game by the Sioux and great to get the three points. The only disappointing moment for me was when Massen had all the time in the world in the slot and shot the puck right into Bruckler's logo. I could have forgiven one rung off the post or forcing a blocker, glove or skate save but this is just typical of our fourth line seniors.
  10. Quote from Green in PCM's article says it all about what has been missing from this Sioux team: "That' what's been missing from our team the entire year, a third- or fourth-line guy getting a huge goal for us. It's so uplifting for our team, you can't even put it into words,"
  11. Have the Sioux won any other games this year without getting a goal from Stafford, Spirko or Zajac. This was great to see!
  12. I started off watching dataflix but the sound has been awful so like most of our normal posters I am watching the game on TV now. Interesting game in that different people are making the mistakes and nice to get the contribution from a player like Fabian. I hope Massen, Fylling and Canady watched how the Sophomore went to the net! Don Cherry would have ripped Green for his giveaway, He would have been screaming shoot the puck off the boards. Jones made up for his indecision error in the first with a nice goal. One good third period of hockey guys, Let's Go Sioux
  13. Sioux have to find a way to take at least one this weekend if they have any hope of sneaking into the NCAAs. I remain hopeful that we may see something out of the senior class if they figure out that they have to play desperate hockey.
  14. You mean that the mousse he was applying to Lucy's hair set before he could safely pull his hand out?
  15. With respect to performance and effort, did anyone expect most of the current seniors to take a step backwards this season?
  16. No backlash from me as I have been thinking the same thing. Recall Sagards post that Woog likely lost his job because Blais set the performance bar too high. Perhaps too many fans have come to expect that high bar to be the norm every year.
  17. I guess they only offered refunds to those of you that purchased the one game in hopes that they will sucker you into buying one of the SCSU or playoff games. They got my $99.00 for the season so they aren't interested in making me any offers or apologies. Disgusting business they are running
  18. You must be watching a different team than I am. What pulse have Massen, Canady and Fylling demonstrated. They are seniors for crying out loud and other than Fyllings recent empty netter tell me the last time that anyone of them contributed a goal to help the Sioux cause. They are deadwood that no Div I let alone WCHA team can afford to carry.
  19. For those who love to blame our first year coach for all the team's problems and like to throw outlandish opinions onto the board how about debating this, Blais knew what he was left with for this season and bailed. Looking at history it was better to go out on top then languish like Gaspirini did at the end of his tenure. I am not upset because I know you have to take the bad with the good and far too many of you on this chat got spoiled with the past two decades. Based on the talent coming in next season I think this downturn will be brief. We have several pieces of deadwood on this team that will graduate and they will be replaced by nothing but quality recruits. The Sioux are doing the right thing by going after the top talent in the BCJHL. It is still the best source of college talent and has played a big part in the success of programs like Maine and Denver. Just look at Zajac and keep in mind that you will be adding three players of his quality to next seasons lineup, a superstar in Toews, and three bluechip defensemen. Give Hak a couple of years with this new squad and then see how you feel about him.
  20. The fourth line doesn't get thrown out when goals are needed because they can't deliver!
  21. Another weekend goes by with no contribution from the fourth line. This is the difference between this years Sioux and the teams that make the NCAAs. You need 4th line contribution from time to time to help put away games like this evening. Sioux should have four lines that can contribute to the scoring next season. You can blame a young player like Bina all you want but at least he tries unlike the seniors who are just putting in time. Bench these losers and go with the players you will have next year. Who knows what may happen and at the very least you give them more valuable game experience in a year that may be over anyway.
  22. Lammy dropped too early and Bourne put it over his right shoulder.
  23. When the dataflix picture freezes just hit stop and then start again. A pain I know but it is working for me.
  24. Great delay on dataflix as I just saw the penalty now!
