You could have traveled to Fargo in 2012 and gotten a home game in 2014 as well, I don't understand what Faison is doing.

The students who get waivers are not getting them for nothing. A lot of them at NDSU teach classes or do research, there is a reason they get that money. You know how many college students nationwide graduate with a degree? 17%, this is not a problem unique to ND. It does need to be improved. I'd love to see the four-year rate at least doubled and the system will need to be reformed to get that done. That said I don't see Carlson's idea fixing that, the legislature needs to figure out how to work with the SBoHE. Legislators need to educate themselves and take a long look at higher ed across the nation and higher ed in this state and work with the SBoHE in reforming the system.
-
Our system of higher ed is overbuilt but good luck getting that fixed, a few colleges are basically entirely redundant and only remain open so a few towns don't suffer an economic impact. Most of the schools in the state are very efficient, especially NDSU but we have a few too many. That is the problem. NDSU has to compete with those schools from other states, the funding they get definitely has some meaning. No two schools are the same but you can't stick your head in the sand and act like what other states are doing doesn't matter.
-
You know why NDSU had a huge funding increase? The school was greatly underfunded when compared to its peers. NDSU and UND are engines of growth which is a concept western legislators in the house can't grasp. I shudder to think what some might to do with more control. I won't say the SBoHE is above reform, things clearly need to change but this idea supported by Carlson is idiotic. You don't put Higher Education and k-12 in the same system, they should be separate. That in itself is a recipe for disaster. You need to remember the reason we have the SBoHE is because legislators meddled with higher ed so much that NDSU at one point lost its accreditation.

What would you have them do? The story was going to break, there was nothing the Summit or UNO could do to stop it. The only thing that could have helped is UNO being more open from the start with their coaches. UNO did need to get moving, they have an entire football team and staff that needs to find new schools. I'm sure they would have liked to wait a few days so the wresting team could have had their spotlight but you can't control the press.
-
The Summit League doesn't run it's member schools, UNO should have been like NDSU, SDSU and UND and been more open about the process that had been going on for almost a month between the school and the league. Nobody even knew about the study going on at UNO that was looking at restructuring their entire athletic department that had been going on for about a year. Their football coach was recruiting for future classes and their AD knew football had to go in November. Douple never told UNO to drop a single sport, he told the school they could join the league and compete in just three men's sports. Again the PR is all on UNO, the Summit was just adding a new member and they only wanted UNO to join by the deadline so they could start the transition in the fall. But like I said blame it all on Douple, keep on grinding that axe.
-
You act like Douple called the Omaha Herald and leaked the news, I doubt he would have cared if UNO had a press conference that Sunday or a month later. It wouldn't make any difference, somebody from Omaha probably leaked the story and it left Alberts with no choice. The last thing you want is for the wrestling team to open the Sunday edition of the Omaha Herald and see their program is cut when they open up the front page. Keep on grinding that axe with Douple, but the man has transformed the Summit into a respectable mid-major conference.
-
There was a comment I disagreed with but I let it go and said congrats. Sioux fans should be happy, the team made some strides since last year and that is all you can hope for as a transition team.
-
I won't derail this thread(even though I'm very tempted), congrats on making the CIT.
-
I'm fine with UNO, solid school that is in the footprint. Perfect travel partner for USD. Kind of sad they have to axe football and wrestling, but they'll be a good addition to the league.

I think it is pretty clear and basically there so legislators don't do exactly what star2city is saying.
-
They can't do that, it would go against the ND constitution. http://www.ballotpedia.org/wiki/index.php/Article_VIII,_North_Dakota_Constitution
-
I don't think so, this issue is exactly why the legislature shouldn't be involved in higher ed. This bill basically puts UND on the NCAA hostile and abusive list and is at odds with what UND's admin wants to do. The only way the SBoHE would back off is that if there was a path to keep the name and keep UND off the NCAA hostile and abusive list.
-
I fully expect the SBoHE to protect its turf on this one. Even if it isn't going to make them popular, they aren't going to let the legislature meddle in higher ed.
-
NCAA does what I expected....
-
Pretty sure the NCAA will just put UND on the hostile abusive list, use the sanctions already talked about and say you knew this was going to happen to you if you broke the settlement agreement. I think if they went beyond that they could give UND an avenue in which to sue, right now I don't think another lawsuit will go anywhere if the NCAA just does what they said they were going to do.
-
Saw that. So what is next...A constitutional debate about the authority of the SBoHE and legislature?
-
Pretty sure he doesn't have to sign it and I doubt he will if he doesn't have to. The bill is just way too divisive and has the potential to create some nasty debates when it comes to the legislature vs the SBoHE. It also sticks UND with the nickname and does nothing to solve the problem with the NCAA.
-
Omaha is talking about hosting the tournament, that would be close to right in between Fargo and Tulsa.
-
Oakland would mop up on the champs of a lot of leagues.
-
The MVFC has said 12 members could work, what if they offer UNO and UND membership. Douple said he still would like to see UND join the league so I don't think that bridge has been burned either.
-
If the rankings counted DII loses it would probably be a enough to put Centenary over the edge and I know Sagarin and RPI just ignore non-DI games.
